Part 1: A heated conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, as he lays out Israel’s case against Iran. Part 2: Barak says the world will regret not acting to stop Bashar al-Assad’s slaughter in Syria. Part 3: One of the winning photos from the Military Photographer of the Year contest.
Episode #4: Thursday, April 19, 2012.
CNN’s Ken Olshansky produced this piece for television.
He should not have raised his voice on her! It is not reasonable to assume that Israel will not warn the United States in advance before an attack on Iran. Israel doesn't want American kids to die for Israel. Israel is strong enough to deal with that problem on its own!
As a matter of fact, it is VERY reasonable to assume that Israel will not warn the United States in advance before an attack on Iran. Israel is a SOVEREIGN STATE. It is correct that Israel doesn't want American kids to die for Israel. This is one of the main reasons not a single American soldier ever participated in Israeli wars.
Where is the heated conversation? There is just Barak talking about Iran to comply with UN what about Israel are they going comply with UN resolutions and finally admit to possession of nuclear head?
"...what about Israel are they going comply with UN resolutions and finally admit to possession of nuclear head?"
I've never seen any UN resolutions requiring Israel to "finally admit to possession of nuclear head". Further, I've not seen any UN resolutions Israel DID NOT comply but the Arab states DID. Can you SHOW at least one such resolution?
You kidding right?
More like: Show ONE UN resolution Israel complied with!!!
The sales are weighed in favor of Israel... This is the to to make peace – when you're strong....
You seem to know that for a fact?
Interesting how
Ehud Barak is incorrect concerning the definition of the islamic term "Taqiyyah". It allows a subterfuge of avoiding admission of being a Moslem if one's life or family is in danger of persecution, tortue or death. The Babylonian Talmud Sanhedrin also have a similar allowance for lying.
As for the proposal of tightly controlled inpection, on-site and permanent, why doesn't Israel allow such an international inspection team on their own territory? Such a program would go a long way to keeping nuclear devices out of all countries in the Middle East.
couldn't say it better myself
Israel NEVER threatened to destroy any other state nor did it claim that any other state did not have the right to exist.
Really? For the last 60 years, Israel has done just about anything in its power to stop a Palestinian state from being formed. It has used everything from deportation of Arabs already living there (no living in refugee camps all over the Middle East), to using Jewish terror groups to kill many of those who refused to move.
We have a good quality twin size bed in good ciiootndn, that we want to donate to a charity. We are two old folks who can no longer move furniture, so the charity must be able to take the bed from a room in our house, and take it away on their vehicle. We live in the Sharon, eight kilometers east of Netanya. Any ideas? Do you know any appropriate charities the Netanya/Hadera area?Richard
Israel did not sign the NPT, therefore it is under no obligation to allow any international inspections in. Further, if the Arab states and Iran were assured that Israel has no nuclear weapons they would try to destroy Israel again as they did in 1948, 1967 and 1973. Another large scale war in the Middle East would result in hundreds of thousands of casualties meaning that Israwli nukes are saving Arab lives.
Dissapointing but entirely predictable interview. I think Armanpour asks good questions and tries to keep on track. But Barak in his arrogant and rude manner managed to say nothing for the duration of Part 1. Which, for politicicans, particularly those with highly unpopular and highly irrational views, is the aim after all. Barak's words on Syria are also entirely predictable. What is so very clear regarding the Israeli Elite, is this arrogance and refusal to compromise in any way. Finally, Barak's assertion that Ahmadinejad's notion of Zionist is a code-word for Israel is not accurate. It refers to the Israeli Elite, the real power holders, the real decision makers, like Barak. And he knows that very well.
What you consider to be "irrational" in Barak's words? What is the difference between the Zionists and the Jews according to Ahmadineja? What was the meaning of Ahmadinejad's statement about the "regime in Jerusalem" that will "vanish from the page of time"?
Yes Ehud is right on al-assad i don't know why the world is jst folding hands watching pple dying day by day been killed by there own president, why is the world not picking interest stopin al-assad as dey pick in stopin Gadafi and other country dat has witness less slaughter on it pple as syria, is it of the minerals resources that prompt the nato force to libya or what Amanpour there are many question questing for answer.
Impressive. It seem Mr. Barak does not know if Iran is making nuke either. Iran is not a perfect country but neither is Israel. Both have similar issues. Iran is a dictatorial religious fanatic state, Israel is an Apartheid fanatic state. Both of these countries should be prevented to have nukes for military use. When Israel publicly allowed IAEA to inspect it's nuclear sites and announces they have dismantled all their military nuclear programs and weapons then they have the right to complain about Iran. Until then ...
I am not a big fan of any of the Israeli politicians, but this guy makes more sense than Ahmedinejad or Khameini...
Ehud Barak is crazy, first he says Iranians are making nuclear weapons then the next moment he says if they choose the nuclear weapon path. He didn't take his pills apparently.
Amanpour is so anti-israel it seeps from her pores. Plus, she's naive.
Actions speak louder than words in the middle east. A "fatwa" is just talk... like Barak said in the interview, if Iran actually takes action and stops its nuclear weapons program, the issue will be resolved peacefully. But based on years and years of empty, misleading promises, Israel and the whole world *should* be skeptical. Amanpour seems ready to swallow anything the Iranians say.
Finally a real reporter who doesn't coddle the Zionist's nuts like all the other reporters do
Do Israelis and Americans understand the concept of self-defense? Does Israel itself ratify NPT? Does Israel feel that the only legitimate self-defense is theirs? Iran saw what happend to Iraq by being defenseless and what has not happened to North Korea for being armed. When was the last time Iran invaded a country, neighbour or otherwise? Which is the only country in the world which has used nuclear weapons? The Israel-USA tandem is itself a great threat to world peace. This is clear as daylight to anybody who wants objectivity.
Can you explain WHO and WHY will be willing to invade PEACEFUL Iran, syntax? Thank you.
Thinker, you will remember that the last time Iran was involved in war it was with the then USA's proxy, sweet Saddam Hussein. Go further back in history: does the year 1953 and the name Mossadegh ring any bells with you? Well, the history of USA's bullying and meddlling in Iran's internal affairs goes at least that far back. Given this background, should Iran comply with USA, the West and, by extension Israel? The question which should be asked is: why is Iran cantankerous and unruly? The accusation of Iran's involvement in terrorist activity expressed by the USA, a nation practicing state terrorism since 1898, is shamelessly hypocritical and assumes that the world is blind and has no memory.
Anthony Good point and well-taken I guess I had waited so long for the Obama Mideast trip I was entlralhed perhaps overly so.Yes the NDP sweep in N.S. was heartening and I think it's important to note that it was N.S. that elected an independent candidate in the last election with 69% of the popular vote. This just shows how much I rely on you to remind me about the reality of Canadian politics. As a matter of fact I have been thinking about the blue-eyed mystery and wondering just what it is that makes that guy tick.Help.
Couldn't have said it better.. (Y)
Israeli leaders understand the concept of takkiya
In the interview with Christiane Amanpour, Ehud Barak, Israel’s defense minister, demonstrated that he understood what takiyya meant. This shows that the Israeli leadership understands Islamic concepts used by Iran to confuse and deceive the gullible West.
TRANSCRIPT:
Have you heard the term atakia (ph), which means in Islam, especially in the Shia, a kind of permission from heaven to the leader to lie and mislead. (Inaudible) as long as it's really in order to reach the objective, the political objectives of the movement agobo (ph), the tribal (inaudible) of the nation. So it's - I don't buy it.

Do insurance companies want to pay for deserts when all arabian buildings are fallen in hell deserts? '.'.'.'.'.'.'
FallenBurjHotell: Selling oil+gas and its pollution to build the hotels on deserts before the surfaces fall down in the empty canals mines? The photo of the man with prosthetic legs, having his wifes beautiful legs on his, and they holding hands, touches me deeply. It is just a photo, but it is very symbolic, and makes me feel great respect for this woman, who seems to be there for her man who has only half his body intact, to give him what he may need the most now – her support and love.
Barak is well scared...and it does make sense. why on earth would you wanna start a war with iran, regardless of the fact US is with israel.
I have to agree, Manesh. No one is willing to start a war with PEACEFUL Iran. The problem, however, is the very real possibility of a NOT peaceful Iran armed with nuclear weapons starting a war with Israel and/or United States.
Where were the tough questions, Amanpour? Where have you ever interviewed Irani and Israeli politicians together ?. Let them have a public debate on American TV!
Amanpour, you never asked Ehud about Israel's 300+ nukes and 1000s of WMDs?
Do you even know Taqiyya? Amanpour, you just swallowed the lies that Ehud blurted. Ask tough questions about Israel's offensive policies. Have guts or nuts?
I agree, she should have been even more aggressive. Amanpour had to ask Barak about 300,000 Israeli nuclear weapons and millions of WMDs. YES!
After watching this interview, i'm more feared Israeli regime than Iranian. This man looks much more aggresive and unpredictable, than last gest Amanpour from Iran. Something is wrong with Ehud Barak.
Considering that Israel NEVER started a war without being attacked first it must be "much more aggressive and unpredictable" than those declaring that "the regime in Jerusalem will canish from the page of time" and unable to explain what it means...
he is typical of the arrogant, aggressive approach of Israeli politicians always on the defensive and claiming offense...
The warmonger Ehud Barak that lead a state in possession of 100-400 nuclear warheads, in constant violation of international/humanitarian law, UN resolutions. A state that occupy palestinians, lebanese, syrian land and annex more and more every month pushing palestinians out of their homeland. While at the same time saying they want peace? Its not credible what is credible is that they, Israel, pose the greatest danger to regional, american and world peace. Israeli actions are not in american strategic interest, the illegal annexation and actions in middle east breeds hate against americans, therefore the unlimited to support to Israel must end today.
Its time to sanctions Israel before they start another war, last two wars, Lebanon 2006 and Gaza 2008 left some 1800 civilians dead.... Rest assured, a nuclear Israel is indeed a threat.
As usual, in any dispute there needs to be all warring parties involved. Where was any representative/politician from Iran? American media is like your "World Series" – "Word Football" match where only American teams keep playing amongst themselves and self-claiming as "Wolrd" Series.
Bring real Irani politicians from Iran (not Shah's supporters from LA) and have them debate on public TV.
Americans would rather ask tough questions about the Pope on His face than about Israel's corrupt policies. So sad.
after this interview, its pretty clear which nation who threat the peace of the world. gee what a scaremonger.
Joe.JK.Branton... It always helps to GET A CLUE of what you're talking about. In this particular case, you would be amazed to discover that Israel offered the Palestinian Arabs a sovereign independent state in 1948, 1967, 1978, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2009 and the Palestinians REJECTED it each and every time declaring that nothing short of destruction of Israel would satisfy them.
It is Israel we should worry about.
