Israel: ‘All options on the table in Gaza’

Israel's Deputy P.M. on Gaza strikes

Senior Hamas member on strikes in Gaza

For complete coverage and the latest updates on the airstrikes in Gaza click here.

Israel is leaving “all options on the table,” including a ground offensive into Gaza, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor said Wednesday.

“Hamas needs to accept the rules of behavior in the world and not launch any rockets or shoot any of our people in our territory,” Meridor told CNN’s Hala Gorani. “We don’t want to do this any further, but if we have to, we’ll do it.”

Osama Hamdan, a senior member of Hamas, also spoke with Gorani about the strikes and called for an end to the Israeli occupation. “[Dan Meridor] is ignoring the fact that the one who started the bombing in Gaza was the Israeli side… they occupy the Palestinian land and they are blaming the Palestinians for resisting.”

Meridor maintains Israeli strikes against Gaza are in response to rocket fire from Hamas.

Meridor also told Gorani that Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, spoke with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday, regarding the attacks.

“We explained what we have been doing,” Meridor said. “I think people understand it. And we need to see calm restored and people need to obey the rules of the game and not attack us.”

ONe side can start and maintain a war but BOTH sides are necessary to make peace. If and when the Palestinians will produce leadership ABLE AND WILLING to stop violence, recognize Israel and NEGOTIATE A PEACE AGREEMENT Israel will gladly agree.

Israel is doing the palestinians what the spaniards and british did to the indians in America. Gaza is a gigantic camp of concentration were people live in misery just because the committed the sin of being born in their own land; the land that Israel wants for itself. That´s the plain truth. ¿What would happen if Iran or Syria had perpetrated the crimes that Israel commited against the palestinian people? The whole world is getting sick of the impunity wich Israel kills unarmed civilians in palestians lands.

yeah you are totally right that peace will work if BOTH side pursuit it. That is why Israel continue to invade and illegally occupied Palestinian land, West Bank, which has been condemn by UN for numerous times. Israel is really willing to negotiate that why that fought so hard to prevent Palestine from acquire a seat in UN, to prevent all her war crime being brought onto table and to compelled with UN guideline and rules. Israel has indeed shown her sincerity to negotiate over nothing, and continue to condemn Palestine resistant over Israel invasion. you want to talk about human right? how many Israeli had died in the conflict and how many Palestinian had died in the conflict? Do your simple maths, Israel has repeatedly pointing her finger at Hamas as ' terrorist group', Hamas is the military in Palestine, because of Israel, Palestine don't have its own military and has to suffered illegitimate blockade imposed is Israel, that very blockade has been condemned by human right groups and had killed and injured many human right activists all over the world over the years. Israel wants peace? She want peace while invading and occupying other country while expecting people not to resist? its waging war while saying that she want peace. I dont get it.

      Actually this is not true.

Those who are in power in Israel continue to destroy Arab communities, the schools, displace the people. Israel has only itself to blame, due to greed and in equlity.

The arabs and jews lived peacefully side by side peacefully until it was sliced up after the second world war. I f those who were and are incharge of all infrstructure in this country gave the same rights, education there would not be this problem today. Things will get worse, because if you sow seeds of greed and selfishness then the result is chaios and misery. Itis an absolute disgrace to humanity what is going on tere.

Do you watch PressTV? Google it. Baned in the states and now in Europe and Hong Kong. Get informed. I am a westerner living in the M.East and I see first hand what actually goes on. I hold my head in shame that our countries in the west ignore the truth behind the scenes.

the only ourageous demand on the table is the arab demand for israel to accept 6 million arabs into israel. of course this is completely reasonable if California, Texas and New Mexico accept 14 million Mexicans, Danzig and Breslau and the Sudetenland accept 21.5 million Germans. Otherwise this is simply unacceptable, you nitwit

I've wondered if Palestine should have been given back to Turkey, who it belonged to under the ottoman Empire up until after the first world was. As far as I know there was never a country called Palestine, it was a province of the Ottoman Empire.

It was, however the diferance was Arabs and Jews co-existed happily and peacefully. What has happened is due to greed the people who lived there (as their ancestors) had their homes taken from them, displaced, schools burnt, farms destroyed, and made to feel worthless. I too would fight back, if this happened to me. I live here in the Middle-East and as a westerner I hang my head n shame, as to whatis really going on. I can assure you, western press in all censored. If you knew the real truth behind the scenes you too would be shocked. Israel will pay the price eventually for what they have done to millions of Palestians. It has dug a hole it canot get out of, unless there is a complete shake up of the infrastrruce and accountability for the crimes they have commited against the Arabs. Really, it is a disgrace. Wait and watch what happens.

Have you ever waken up from a sound of a siren ?
Did you know that Israeli cities surrounding Gaza are under missile attack around 10 years and counting.
I'm writing this after about 8 times this evening that Beersheba was bombed by cowardish terrorists shooting missiles out of a Gaza cites, while aiming at the civilians, while the IDF cautions the the Gaza civilians before the attack at the fighting forces and not the civilians.

Oh and I'm inviting you to come and live here for a while at this beautiful time of the year, when it rains 'Grads' every hour and sirens sing along.

The so-called occupation stems from the fact that suicide bombers and missiles repeatedly enter Israel with the sole intent of inflicting the most casualties possible on a civilian population. Israelis would love to be able to dedicate their young men, and women, and economy to good rather than security and policing those who wish their destruction. And as for "apartheid", anyone who thinks this is an apartheid state knows nothing. Israeli Arabs – they are not Jews – live and work side by side with Israeli Jews throughout the land. Same supermarkets, same restaurants and restrooms – same access to education if their culture allows it. So, why don't you come to Israel and see for yourself instead of talking nonsense.

Right. Even if Israel were to blame for occupying the Gaza strip, which they are not, lobbing rockets aimlessly at innocent civilians is not justifiable resistance. In fact, it is breaching international law and could be classified as a war crime. Keep accountability where it is deserved. There are countless ways to try to reach an end game here and I really do not buy that the answer is shooting rockets at Israel. They know what to expect... Hamas extremists are the true enemy of the Palestinian people, not Israel.

Give a little and you may get something back, but while you steal land their is only going to be war. But that's what Israel wants – always the victim.

Its was the great Muslim Caliph umar bin khattab who allowed the jews to return to Jeruslam after Muslims conquered it. He protected both Christian and jewish holy sites. When hitler rose to power in Europe and killed jews, the europeans decided to give the jews Muslim land which was under their rule. This was a land grab. Even before Israel was created, many jews were living under muslim rule and no one were persecuting them. First get the face right, before making a judgement. Just google Umar and Jerusalem.

Israel's Netanyahu plans – wait for US elections to be concluded – target a Hamas official – kill him and maybe a few others – Gazans will retaliate – who no doubt will launch a few missiles and maybe harm some Israelis – Israel will unite against a common enemy and attack Gaza with anything short of nuclear – Israel elect Likud with a comfortable majority in January.
Too bad if a handful of Israelis and hundreds of Palestinians die.
What matters to Netanyahu is one thing – power!

The two go hand in hand. Our "leaders" like crap Hamas make it so we need to miss every single opportunity offered to us by the world. It is true that the jewish have been in Israel since the beginning of time and we arabs have been here for 800 years. Our ancestors that did not flee in 1948 when the state of Israel was formed became FULL CITIZENS of the state of Israel. That was my grandfather. The Israel government is not perfect but they have made it possible for me and my family to thrive here. I would not want to live in any Arab country. We Palestinians are treated like crap there. In Israel there is a supreme court and rights and it protects us. The jewish have it going on. They don't make it great for palestinian brothers in west bank and gaza strip but that is because they are worried they are trying to kill israel and they are right and it is a shame. I wish my palestinian sisters would see it more like I see it instead they are stuck in this stupid dream of wanting the whole strip of land to themselves and that is not right. my life would be terrible if arabs ruled this country and called it palestine and where would they put all the jewish any way? this is where they belong. it is part of our holy Quran to accept not just Christian and Jesus as a prophet by the Jewish too. They are a good people. They work very hard. They give a lot to charity. They are sometimes rude people but that is forgivable. They want big universities and that is great for me. I belive in them. I love them. I love my own people too. It does not mean we have to kill people because they are not like us. This whole terrible situation started because Hamas fired a missile on an isreali Jeep near gaza. They have nothing better to do than to fire on a jeep? Hamas know Gazans will die when they do this. Meanwhile you look at their twitter from AlQassam and it says they want to "reclaim" tel aviv which they then use the arab word for. Muslim and christian and jews live a very rich life iin tel aviv. Let it be you idiots. we are here too. I don't think you care about us just like assad does not care about his fellow arab and syrians in syria. it's all just a game you play with peoples' lives both arab and jewish so you can get more power you are terrible.

    To Palestine leaders:
You guys have won 1/2 battle with sword – the world recognized your existence. The other half wont be achieved with swords but words – aka compromises. There is no point dwelling on the past. It's time to move on to the future. You know you cant beat Israel forces. They have more fire powers than you do. Direct confrontation only results in massive casualties. I'm no fan of Israel, but an attack is an attack no matter how small it is.
Think about your next generations. Do not condemn your children to a future with no life but destruction. Teach them love, science, maths, skills not hatred.; Don't you have enough of killing and misery already?
No matter what the reason is... firing rockets is not helping anything or anyone. Israel may be responsible for |Palestinian civilians blood, but you are responsible for both – Palestinian and Israelis.

Israel is the enemy of the USA, why?
according to Israelian logic jews have the 2000 years old right to occupie this pice of land that they left some hunderts+ years ago to get into sad times in germany
Now they like to return and talk about theyr 2000 year old rights (after germany was not so friendly as they thoght before.

How is this conflicting with the USA?
Native americans did not leafe theyr land but were forced out, according to Israelian logic the native americans have way more rights to get theyr historical land back!
so if we apply the same measure as israelians take charge of to the USA we can say the native americans have a 10000 years old right on wahsington DC and the whole rest of the country.

so if us-americans take side on a country who calls for 2000 year old rights its nessesary to apply the same measure on it self and move back to europe because according to Israelian logic the native americans have a more then double old right on theyr land, the land where the native-american religion is at home (no fanatic christians, no jewish lobbies, no muslim extemists or what ever else then native american beliefs)

in demanding for 2000 year old rights of jews we also have to speak about the more then double old rights of native americans

i cant imagine that euro-americans would like to apply the same rights on them self as they like to serve to the israelians

so be honest and stop this outrageous double standars.
stop talking about 2000 year old rights based on a fanatic interpretation of some religious letters!
we life in 2012 and not in 1495 (maybe in israel they forgot to reajust the clock since 2000 years)

if israelians would be interested in fairness they would demand for the land of the germans, because they should pay for theyr sins and not some arabic open-air inprissoned "cave-men", they are not the responsibles of the jewish dislike of germany where they did like to life before the holocaust (ask merkel to give the ex-DDR to the jews as redemption that would be honest).

but true (let me apply the israelian vocabulary) why should germans want such extremists in theyr neighbourhood? still today it seems as they like to get the jews as far away as possible, they did pay for years money to israel and gave unlimited support (still today) a israelian state (it seems as they pay every price if they cant burn jews to keep them at least far away, maybe they would pay the double if israel would establish it self at the southpole).

yeah i know hard words, but maybe also a perspective to think about.
germany should pay with german land if they realy accept jews in now days, and else they are only them self free from jews instead of hunting them down.

a other aspect i thogh of is the actual disproportional bombardments of israel towards palestine
as i saw how they took out this hamas-leader guy it did rise the question in me...

in europe there were/are similar situations between spain and the ETA (terrorist organization)
they are basicaly also geographical seperated and not friends of each other
spain had to take many attaks on its side and they also have the right to defend them self
but as a part of modern civilization they did never send theyr jets with phosphor rain over the basque-"country", they did act way more responsable and took civil action against this ETA-terrorism.
why is the great israelian hightech nation with the superior high standarts not able to act at least similar?
by inprisson and cripeling the whole palestinian region (or at least the rest of it) nothing is won ever, its more like to keep the deer in a cage to hunt it down when they need a nice photoshot (or when it is political kind of useful)

similar difference between a bloody slaughter and a modern civilisated can be seen in the british/irish IRA problem
the IRA was also a terrorist organization who put bombs into public places
how many times did the brits punish the irish civilians with a blind rain of bombs over ireland?

some how, to me, this makes a huge difference between civilisation and israel
no one in europe, at least, would act nearly similar as the israelian high standart superior value IDF barbarians who seem not to be able to take out precisely some individuals with all the support they get by half the world (in logistics, money and weaponery)

in this perspective it seems to be grotesque to compare israel with any democratic country, because to be democratic means not to argue like a religious nutcase but to act responsible and balanced, to act as a human and apply civil measures (even on terrorists) and not to collectively punish all palestinians because of some hamas among them

imagine the brits would have acted on the irish people because the IRA as israel is acting on palestinians because hammas
imagine the spanish army would have acted on the basques because the ETA as israel is acting on palestinians because of some hamas among them

(to not confuse this situations with with other similar situations as the RAF terrorism in germany, the RAF was not geographicaly seperated but amongst all the germans so logicaly they dont bomb them self because the RAF terrorists among them self, but the ETA and the IRA was/is geographicaly seperated as israel and gaza is)

as much israel likes to talk about high standart value army, the more its a disgrace on theyr side for not being able to deliver proofe of theyr high standarts as brits or others use without barking about any standarts

in this view it is a disgusting shame if one compares israel with any western or democratic standarts or even with civilisation because it is not what israel practices

i would like to throw in these words as an imput to think about
