Six Israeli security chiefs stun world

Israel's "Gatekeepers"

By Samuel Burke, CNN

Six former heads of the Shin Bet, Israel’s secretive internal security service, have spoken out as a group for the first time and are making stunning revelations.

The men who were responsible for keeping Israel safe from terrorists now say they are afraid for Israel’s future as a democratic and Jewish state.

Israeli film director Dror Moreh managed to get them all to sit down for his new documentary: “The Gatekeepers.” It is the story of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian Territories, as told by the people at the crossroads of some of the most crucial moments in the security history of the country.

“If there is someone who understands the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, it’s those guys,” the director told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.

Against the backdrop of the currently frozen peace process, all six argue – to varying degrees – that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land is bad for the state of Israel.

The oldest amongst the former chiefs, Avraham Shalom, says Israel lost touch with how to coexist with the Palestinians as far back as the aftermath of the Six Day War of 1967, with the occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, when the country started doubling down on terrorism.

“We forgot about the Palestinian issue,” Shalom says in the film.

A major impediment to a meaningful strategy, they say, are the Jewish extremists inside Israel – people like the Jewish Israeli who assassinated Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin, or the 1980 plot to blow up the Dome of the Rock Islamic shrine in Jerusalem.

A central theme of the documentary is the idea that Israel has incredible tactics, but lacks long-term strategy. That is to say, the security apparatus is able to pacify terrorists, but if operations do not support a move toward a peace settlement, then they are meaningless.

Moreh said he was shocked to hear Avraham Shalom, Austrian-born and a refugee of the Nazis, compare the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian Territories to Germany’s occupation of Europe.

“Bear in mind that Avraham Shalom was born in Vienna,” Moreh said. “And at the Kristallnacht he was forced by his mother to go to school and was beaten almost to death by his classmates… He said ‘I experienced firsthand what it means to be under a racist regime.’”

Moreh knew that he had to include that part of the interview in the film. “I said to myself I have to keep it, because he understands what he speaks.”

“Only Jews can say those kind of words,” he told Amanpour. “And only they can have the justification to speak as they spoke in the film.”

The filmmaker said that this is “the most pro-Israel film” he could have created. “When you see the Titanic heading toward the iceberg, what would you do?”

A spokesperson for current Israel Prime Minister said Benjamin Netanyahu had not seen “The Gatekeepers,” and had no plans to do so.

“I think the fact that the PM of Israel is not willing to watch a film with six former heads of shin bet speaking and conveying a message to the Israeli public – to him and to the world. I think it just speaks about his personality,” Moreh said.

Critics accuse Moreh of cherry picking to advance a political agenda that falls on the left-wing of the Israeli political spectrum.

“They are all pragmatists,” Moreh told Amanpour about the subjects. “These are the six heads of the secret service of Israel saying in one and clear voice enough of the occupation – you cannot argue with that.”

Moreh said that none of the former chiefs has come to him with any problems with the final product and all of them told him they stand behind the film.

Finally, Christiane you came up with a brilliant masterpiece feature that l couldnt help but respond to it. I hope more Jews & Americans would rise up & vehemently protest against the zionist regimes both in Israel & the US which are detrimental to world jewry & responsible for modern anti-semitic (anti-american) sentiments & trends the world over... The use of drones in target killings of unsuspecting & unarmed peasants in a whole sale massacre that usually includes innocent by-standers, women & children or family members in homes, villages or vehicles is like the playing god; using tornadoes to destroy a whole village or town just because of few sinners.......

If you have a problem with TARGETED killings of terrorists, Barone, I'm sure you would prefer UNTARGETED ones... Right?

"Kay" , that was an ugly war. For every one of those attacks you mention, Arabs engaged in one too. eg.

Hebron riots 1929 – 133 innocent Jewish civilians slaughtered by Arabs
Jerusalem riot 1929 – more than 30 Jews murdered by Arabs

Arabs placed bombs in Jewish places too, so don't distort history by telling a half-truth. All sides are capable of terrorism and moreover while the world gushes sympathy for 800 000 Palestinians expelled in 1947-48, I see no sympathy for the 900 000 Jewish refugees driven out of Arab countries in revenge. This is a fact, look at this website and read a little more to open your ignorant mind :

@Kay, nice work. You left out all the Briitsh soldiers killed (over 700) and wounded trying to keep the Jews from massacring the Arabs. I suggest you check out the book 'Cordon and Search' by Maj. Gen Wilson, who was adjutant of the British 6th Airborne Division and caught up in all the garbage. He lists all the weapons seizures from both the Jews and the Arabs. There were mountains of deadly modern weapons and explosives confiscated from the Jews and mostly the odd antique musket from the Arabs.

Thanks for the info Cythara. And the disgusting part is, they still terrorize the way when they were still Irgun, Lehi, Stern. They terrorize the Palestinians by demolishing their homes, stealing their land, humiliating them, imposing apartheid through check points/barbed wire/separated roads, showering Palestinian with white-phosphorous, massacring the Palestinians in the open-air prison they created.

Kay: "...it' Israel that invented the first organized terrorism on planet earth."

This is not true. People (as well as organizations and governments) killed their enemies many thousands of years prior to 1948 when the modern State of Israel was established. Further, people always have been killed in wars. It happened since the first humans used rocks and bare hands to kill each other hundreds of thousands of years ago. Claiming that ONLY Jews and the Jewish state fight their enemies is as ridiculous as it goes. Still further, regardless of the number of claims to the opposite Israel DID NOT START A SINGLE WAR. Each and every war Israel was involved in was initiated by the Arabs. In addition, if the Arabs did not like the current arrangement they would NEGOTIATE A BETTER DEAL long ago. They had plenty of opportunities.

Finally, below is the definition of terrorism I'm using. Try to adopt it and you'll never confuse terrorism with anything else:

TERRORISM IS DELIBERATE ATTACKING OF NON-COMBATANTS WITH POLITICAL GOALS.

"Each and every war Israel was involved in was initiated by the Arabs. "

Well here are some history of Israel initiating war/violating truce.

1949 – Immediately after the UN-brokered Armistice Agreement between Israel and its neighbors goes into effect, the armed forces of the newly-created Israeli state begin violating the truce with encroachments into designated demilitarized zones and military attacks that claim numerous civilian casualties.

1956 – Colluding with Britain and France, Israel violates the 1949 Armistice Agreement by invading Egypt and occupying the Sinai Peninsula.

1967 – Israel violates the 1949 Armistice Agreement, launching a surprise attack against Egypt and Syria. Yitzhak Rabin, Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli army during the war, says in a 1968 interview that "I do not believe that Nasser wanted war. former Prime Minister Menachem Begin later admits that "Egyptian army concentrations in the Sinai approaches did not prove that Nasser was really about to attack us. We must be honest with ourselves. We decided to attack him."

1973 – Following a ceasefire agreement arranged by the US and the Soviet Union to end the Yom Kippur War, Israel violates the agreement with a "green light" from US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

1981-2 – Under Defense Minister Ariel Sharon, Israel repeatedly violates a nine-month-old UN-brokered ceasefire with the PLO in Lebanon in an effort to provoke a response that will justify a large-scale invasion of the country that Sharon has been long planning.

1982 – Following Israel's invasion of Lebanon in June, and after PLO fighters depart Beirut under the terms of a US-brokered ceasefire, Israel violates the terms of the agreement and moves its armed forces into the western part of the city, where the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila are located. Shortly thereafter, Israeli soldiers surround the camps and send in their local Christian Phalangist allies. Over the next three days, between 800 and 3500 Palestinian refugees, mostly women and children left behind by the PLO fighters, are butchered by the Phalangists as Israeli soldiers look on.

1988 – In April, Israel assassinates senior PLO leader Khalil al-Wazir in Tunisia, even as the Reagan administration is trying to organize an international conference to broker peace between Israelis and Palestinians. The US State Department condemns the murder as an "act of political assassination.

2001 – On July 25, as Israeli and Palestinian Authority security officials meet to shore up a six-week-old ceasefire, Israel assassinates a senior Hamas member in Nablus. Nine days later, Hamas responds with a suicide bombing in a Jerusalem pizzeria.

2001 – On November 23, Israel assassinates senior Hamas militant, Mahmoud Abu Hanoud. At the time, Hamas was adhering to an agreement made with PLO head Yasser Arafat not to attack targets inside of Israel.

2002 – On January 14, Israel assassinates Raed Karmi, a militant leader in the Fatah party, following a ceasefire agreed to by all Palestinian militant groups the previous month, leading to its cancellation. Later in January, the first suicide bombing by the Fatah linked Al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade takes place.

2002 – On July 23, hours before a widely reported ceasefire declared by Hamas and other Palestinian groups is scheduled to come into effect, Israel bombs an apartment building in the middle of the night in the densely populated Gaza Strip.

2008 – In November, Israel violates a ceasefire with Hamas and other Gaza-based militant groups that has been in place since June, launching an operation that kills six Hamas members. Over the next three weeks, the Israeli military kills approximately 1400 Palestinians.

2011 – On October 29, Israel breaks a truce that has maintained calm for two months, killing five Islamic Jihad members in Gaza, including a senior commander. The following day, Egypt brokers another truce that Israel proceeds to immediately violate, killing another four IJ members.

2012 – On March 9, Israel violates an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire and assassinates the head of the Gaza-based Popular Resistance Committees, sparking another round of violence in which at least two dozen Palestinians are killed, including at least four civilians, and scores more wounded.

2012 – On November 14, two days after Palestinian factions in Gaza agree to a truce following several days of violence, Israel assassinates the leader of Hamas' military wing, Ahmed Jabari. Hours before Ahmed Jabari was assassinated, he received the draft of a permanent truce agreement with Israel.

"TERRORISM IS DELIBERATE ATTACKING OF NON-COMBATANTS WITH POLITICAL GOALS" you say?

Here is the problem with your post. You use the phrase "zioinist regime" in a way that shows your true stance. Not one of peace nor finding a way to help the Palestinians create a state and widthrawing from the occupied territories. Rather the implied entire rejection of the existence of a Jewish state at all - which is the crux of Zionism. If Jews are to try again to push towards a peace that includes the Palestinians - then your kind of rhetoric must cease as well.

Why would anyone accept to being forced out (whether that piece of land is called Palestine or desert) and to acknowledge a "Jewish State", in the vast majority consisting of people settling there from around the world? Seriously? For thousands of years Mezrahim were living in the levante region, thats not something i doubt! But this artificially built society, which only has "jewishness" in common can not subsist in the long run! It just doesnt work out well. It hasnt to do with Jew or not Jew! Any group A invading a piece of land and forcing out group B is not being "nice"!

First of all, this would not be the first time in Jewish history that a bunch of spies told the Jewish nation that Israel is not the place to be because of the inhabitants. They did not trust God and God punished them and the whole generation for it. When they did move into the land, they were instructed, by God, to kill everyone. They again did not listen and left many of the inhabitants of the land which God gave to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Yisrael). Second, no one mentions that it was the Arab nations that caused the situation the Palestinians are in, not Israel, not the Jews. It's too bad everyone loves a good movie, especially a one sided, biased, and of course, critical one about Jews. And of course Amanpour and CNN love it. The day will come when God will set things right and show the world the cruelty that it has subjected his chosen people to. And that cruelty can come from Jews as much as from Arabs.

Yes. People will be held accountable for what they have done. Not who they are. The Arab nations could not have conceivably started this, because Biblically, historically and genetically, the Arabs are far more the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob than these colonisers. So it clearly is Arab land being taken, NOT Zionist land being returned.

And that comment exemplifies why exactly I consider organized religions, and inflexible religious dogma, to be a cancer on humanity. So much unnecessary suffering over a piece of land, with a country forcefully created because of widespread belief in a promise by a vengeful and petty tribal god in a bronze age religious dogma.

The bible is the most cynically evil book ever written. It was the result of 5 centuries of lying and forgeries by the Jews after 536 BC and a further 2 centuries by Greeks looking to use the lies of the Jews as an ancient well of 'prophecy' that they could back engineer the gospels to make it look like they were fulfilling some god's promise. Any real examination into the bible will show it is nothing but fantasies, lies and shoddy writing. For examples of how bad the writing is, check out this time line of what history says happened against what the bible says happened. The bible writers were clueless about the history they claimed to know.

The jews were originally the 'chosen' people and were promised the the land of isreal, but they defied god when moses ordered them to fight for their land three times, then they became cursed by god for defying his orders. That is why a lot of jews do not support the current isreal as it was not given to them by god, but created by terrorism and oppression.

Fundamentalism, whether it be Christian, Islamic, Hindu, Judaic... well the true Judaic fundamentalists eschew statehood entirely so they're not the problem..., Zionist.......... is the problem.
Islam itself teaches respect ESPECIALLY for the other "People of the Book"... Christians and Jews.

Actually this is a reply to Kay.Arab terrorism was so wide spread against the Jews(before 1948) that the British had to bring in "The White Paper". The White Paper prohibited Jewish refugees from the holocaust to enter Palestine, resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths. My point, however is that of warfare and survival.Israel survived (militarily) more than 5 wars of aggression from combined Arab armies. Now Israel is facing a tsunami of anti-Israel/Jewish psychological warfare from the Arabs, bribed Arab friends, old-Europe anti-semitism and internal enemies. This is a question of demoralization of world Jewry(including Israel). This arena of warfare is almost as important as military might. Fight it as courageously as the other. What the Arabs do not understand is that Israel CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOOSE. When someones back is to the wall, you can not defeat him.You can only go down with him.

Robyn. Listen to these 6 men. (and others)
I agree that the last century has taught us that Israel needs to exist. Many would argue cogently that that time has past. However: The only options to a TWO State solution with viable state for the Palestinian people are:
        1. A single apartheid state with a growing Palestinian majority
        2. Extermination and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians
        3. A democratic Israel with a Jewish minority.
The first two are abhorrent and only the extremists, the bigots, and the uninformed support them. The third is self-defeating.
I was never Jimmy Carter fan but his book on the subject is superb.

Well said Barone! You are reflecting what Graham Fuller says in his book, "A World Without Islam". It's all about economics and oil politics; and the West is the guilty party. If Islam does not exist, the ME will probably be Orthodox Christian and the West will still make war there because of oil.

Betrand Russell said that the West has too much energy and will spend it creating problems for others. That explains why the West went about colonizing the rest of the world and started two world wars.

Perhaps the ME will be where WW3 will start (by the West) and the whole of humankind will perish. Wake up before it's too late, yankees. You wonder why everybody hates you. You must be in deep delusion!!!

Those six men are traitors. They don't know the history of Isrrael, and not even the bible. It is time to start praying. When they beging talking about peace and security, then a sudden destruction will come next. God, Jaweh, says it, and he has the last word. That land belong to the Jews, and that is going to be the lord's dwelling place, like it or not.

Sometimes when i am with my mates we discuss wondering when peace shall be upon the Children of Abraham. Does anyone ever think that Abraham does not like it(Jews and Arabs).

The answer has truly always been there, read entire post

    THE SOLUTION
Israel moves settlers back to the 1967 border and the UN operates Jerusalem and occupied lands for the whole world free to worship and raise their kids and work and enjoy the area with no violence, corruption, domination bloodshed and rocks/rubber bullets. Then presto- PEACE, We won't have to send Israel, Egypt or Turkey, or the Palestinians any more money or US blood or treasure, or blow up Iran or hassle with Hamas simple!!! Over time the PLO, Hamas, Iran, the Taliban and Al qaeda will all moderate and eventually lose their causes and America is more secure again. Remember Yugoslavia- the UN and NATO cleared out Slobodan Milosevic and made the region safe and happy in less than a year and a half, how long would it really take the IDF and NATO and the world for that matter to clear out 500,000 settlers? Moving these settlers home would make it possible for millions of Palestinians to come home = PEACE

This solution of mine is very doable and the only people that it would effect negatively would be the Settlers themselves.

You have to ask yourself a few honest questions:
What does the word SETTLER mean?
What does the word REFUGEE mean?

Because of this, millions of Palestinians have lost their homes and are refugees in Gaza and also the Palestinians that remain have been on virtual house arrest for over 40 years subject to search of their homes, they can't go far or even to work or even the hospital as there are hundreds of roadblocks, their agriculture is limited as Israel diverts their water, they just let through a humanitarian shipment of shoes and clothes? This actually made the news lately. People in America do not know what that would be like, but a Palestinian knows, if Israel is a bully then the world’s job is not finished, we rescued the Israelis in WWII and we will rescue the Palestinians next.

Not one other country on the entire planet recognizes these settlements as lawful or legitimate.

Name one, any one I dare you if you can't then that tells the world the story, any argument you have after that realization is just pointless–pointless.

I am trying to keep America safe, so check it out>

There was no anger from Arab nations at America before 1967. Name any Arab nations that were angry at America, now what's happened?

After Israel's illegal occupation of the territories and America's military and monetary support for Israel – Arab nations began to hate us. Thanks alot Israel, our support for your settlements has cost America dearly. Send those Settlers home, send them home so America can be more secure without having to fight any more wars for Israel. We do not need to bomb Iran, we need to police the occupied lands for at least 20 years. With the world, IDF and NATO policing those areas there will be peace. The Settlements must go, even Israel's defense minister Barak said they must go. Send those settlers home to Israel proper and there will be peace, there is no other option.

Hateful responses to my thoughts have only shown the limitations of the writer against the truthful solution of mine that will work for everyone except the settlers themselves.

Well thought out answer based on facts given in this film and told by many others in the Israeli community all over. The fundamentals of this solution works, of course, there are many complications that will follow this solution and post solution as well. However, this should be done because the cost of not doing this only further drains, retards and progressively weakens the Israelis themselves without their knowledge while creating a negative chain reaction towards the US and many other countries the world over. Lets just have this PEACE once and for all.

It's not that easy. Israel tried a similar "solution" in the past when Barak offered Arafat a two-state solution with Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state. Israel also moved its settlers out of the "occupied" lands as a gesture of goodwill. Arafat, however, refused this deal without making any counteroffer... It is my opinion that Palestinian leadership doesn't really want a peaceful solution to the conflict.

You're right, of course, John... All those blaimng Israel for Arab violence forget that in order to achieve peace BOTH SIDES must be able and willing to do it. Giging away lands and goods in response to violence will only prove (correctly) that violence works and that more violence will work even better and will result in more lands and goods.

Health office realized that a lot of the Ethiopians (who come from Africa) carry the AIDS disease and they didn't want others to be infected. In order not to heart the feelings of the Ethiopian jews they did not publish it at all, it was found out by mistake. But don't let the facts confuse you.

You can't be referring to Israel as a peace-seeking democracy. I wonder if you even watched the video of what these men had to say? Peace loving democracies don't occupy the land of millions of people for generations. Palestinians pose no threat to the security of Israel which is why Israeli leadership does not engage in meaningful and truthful negotiations. Israel's occupation is illegal, when they stop building illegal settlements and respect UN resolutions, only then will they be a true "peace-seeking democracy."

if there was peace both isreal and palestinian authorities would suffer, isreal would not get around 24 billon dollars of aid and the palestinians around 200 million dollars. war seems to benefit both, hence why peace is a long way off.

John. He moved settlers out of Gaza, NOT the occupied West Bank. Read abit. Polls show over 70% of Palestinians support the two-state solution and have given up on their 'right of return' to their stolen homes/lands in what is now Israel.
The last Israeli leader willing to really move towards a two-state solution was assassinated.
The previous talks have been used as a cover for rapid expansion of settlements on Palestinian lands, unfortunately, leading to increasing desperation amongst the Palestinian people.

What you are saying is not true. It is well known that the Arab League of Nations agreed on a two state solution for peace, depending on Israel's withdrawal back to the 1967 boundaries, and this proposal was put on the table by the Saudi king. The Israelis didn't even want to discuss this offer because they wanted to confiscate even more of Palestinian lands.

        May 20, 2013 at 12:15 pm |
    • spocksbrain

Your "SOLUTION" ignores several important facts. One, why was there a 1967 war in the first place? Two, the Palestinians, at least some, claim that the decendents of those who fled Israel when it was created in 1948 have a right to return. This number of people is much much larger than the orginal number who fled. And 3rd and most important - your solutiion is rejected by HAMAS, who won't accept Israel at all, even at the 1967 borders. Good luck with your solution.

THE ALTERNATE SOLUTION: Arabs end their hostility towards Israel, Israel withdraws to defensible borders (just in case the arabs decide they want to attack again), keeping the settlements intact under Israeli jurisdiction. Jerusalem remains in Israeli hands, keeping the city open to all faiths. Under arab occupation, prior to 1967, jews werent allowed to pray at their holiest sites, 52 synagogues in East Jerusalem were destroyed, Headstones from jewish graveyards were used to pave the streets. Its unlikely Israel will agree to return Jerusalem to the arabs and face this nonsense again.

What hostility? Their land, homes, men, women, children, jobs, money, water, gas, electricity has been demolished, raped, tortured, stolen, what would any other human being accept? What is not published in the western media is that every day since 1967 these people have lived in terror from the occupation, go back to the agreement in 1967 and there will be peace, simple as that. But we know that will not happen because the state of israel has become powerful with the help of the usa and england and other western countries, zionism has unfortunately become too powerful now.

Palestinians shouldn't loose much sleep on the Zionists never ending evil aspirations of systematic land grabbing and Apartheid. By not accepting a two state solution this will be the beginning of the ending of a Israel as a Jewish state. The Arab population would continue to grow inside Israel, from a mediocre population of 50,000 thousand in the 1950's, that is after the ethnic cleansing and the genocides against the local Arabs, to around a quarter of the Israel population at present. Now, imagine 50 years from now who will be the majority? Israelis or Arabs? Especially when Israel is surrounded with Arab populated countries and then you factor in the one man one vote that comes with Democracy, how impossible is it going to be to have a Palestinian majority Knesset?

Well what you state above is the truth, if the west leaves the arab nations alone to live democratically as the west and insures that Israel is only 'a state' from back 1967 then and only then will we Muslims start to begin repairing their lives and relationships with the west.

You need to educate yourself. Palestinians in Israel are not even allowed to call themselves Palestinians. In the occupied territories, Palestinians have no property rights, their lands are STILL being stolen, the Annexation wall is built strategically to separate them from their farmlands, they must use separate roads (even S.A. never did that), babies have been born at 'checkpoints' and women have died where on the whim of an Israeli soldier they are kept from getting to hospital, water wells and cisterns are regularly destroyed, homes bulldozed to make room for Jewish Israeli homes. You REALLY need to 'think' (and read) abit.

Dear maria....Unfortunately, you have it all backwards: The term Palestinian was created by the late Pedophile, Yassir Arafat, may his memory be erased forever. Israel on the other hand, existed since Bibical Times. If you are capable of understanding simple matters, I'll relate a story I heard to you:
At a meeting of one of the many UN Committees, an Israeli representative begged the indulgence of his audience; most of whom were Arabs from many nations. Of course, The "Fakestinian" delegation was present as well. The Israeli related a story of the Prophet Joshua, before he led Bnei Yisrael across the Jordan. "Before Joshua entered the Holy Land of Israel, he immersed himself in the Jordan River (ritual purification). He disrobed and placed his clothing on the banks of the Jordan River. After immersing himself, he returned to the river bank, only to discover that a Palestinian had stolen his clothing! At that point, a Palestinian Delegate shouted out, "You lying Zionist Jew! You know that Palestinians didn't exist in Israel until 5000 years later!!!"
The Israeli Representative turned to him and said, "Sir, that is exactly my point!" "Now we can proceed with the meeting".

      • Peter

Koose. No sir, YOU have it backwards.
Palestine has existed (I know. I had family (British) involved in the administration of it.) However, like most of the world it was occupied and colonized so had no 'official' standing.
In the early 20th century, Palestine supported the British in their war with the occupying Ottoman Turks... who were a relatively benign ruler (no ethnic cleansing) in return for the promise of independance. That promise was not kept.
Anyone who's worked in the region refers to Palestinian Arabic as the most beautiful of the Arab dialects.

An "end for these bloodshed and the brutal killings" will only become possible when BOTH SIDES will be ABLE AND WILLING to negotiate a peace agreement and comply with its terms. The land originally belonged to the Palestinian population, west unjustly gave that land to the Jewsih diaspora from Europe who had no right to that land except some religious beliefs. If you can find them check the British records as to what percentage of original population Jews were of that region at that time (1930s). so you took their land illegally on the basis of some arbitrary UN reward and then you ignored all other UN resolutions. You had help from super powers and you were fighting muskets with tanks you won and decided that enslave that population, you with burning Palestinian villages forced them out of your territories and now you claim to be the victim. Can anyone explain to me what they base their believe on that Palestinians will live in peace, even if there would be no Israel anymore? Will Hamas suddenly stop killing Fatah members and will Fatah stop torturing Hamas members? Will gays suddenly be accepted and women free to dress as they like? Will there be freedom of expression? The last time the Zionist's brought down a country to it's knees was Russia, after they completely destroyed Russia they left for America and Palestine. How long would the U.S endure the Zionist's distorted ambitions?

Arab > You are not Muslim therefore you cannot speak for them. Forget that my religion is Islam, as a human being who believes in human rights, the STATE of Israel must go back to the agreement of 1967 so that all may live in peace. Perhaps it may be too late because of those hundreds of thousands who have been kicked out or perished, but at least the world then would be honestly trying to make things right, just as the holocaust. Why is it ok for one race and not another?

Well, what these bright boys have forgotten to give us is the strategy.
Your opponent says his job is to kill you. It is his sworn duty to his religion.
What is your strategy? Will you somehow change his religion? Will you change the opponents idea that murdering innocent people is quite acceptable?
Perhaps your strategy is to just disband Israel. Yes, folks, they don't like us here, so everyone pack. Find yourself a country where you will, once again, be a vulnerable minority.
You know what? Nobody likes having to kill somebody else. It doesn't matter whether or not they deserve it. Men have an instinct not to kill other men. When they do it, they suffer. I can see how former leaders who were responsible for hard actions would feel.
It's no reason to surrender. It's no reason to risk all you have fought for.
There is no definite definition for success. So what? When the people you are dealing with are so filled with religious and political hatred, you just have plans to protect your country. That's good enough. Or do you just want to surrender to people who would as soon cut your throat? How long can you do this? Forever. The Palestinians can live in misery for as long as they wish. It's their own decision to turn to terrorism. They have decided to live and breathe the lies they do. When they decide to change, the situation will change. Meanwhile, they can not stall negotiations for ever. They can now lose, forever, the West Bank. The fact is, that they can go and live in any of the surrounding countries.

Everyone can see what Israel is becoming and is doing apart from the far right in Israel and her sponsors in the US.
The only way to change this is for people to start boycotting Israeli products and services. Send a message that can not be ignored.

It looks like a very thought provoking film and I look forward to watching it.

I think the film-maker chose the right men for the message. I would read an article in an instant if I saw one of their names on it, when I see 6 together in a movie – I know there will be some heavy insight into a situation from a point-of-view of experience that nobody can compare.
Israel's Shin Bet is an unbelievably effective intelligence organization given the size and resources of Israel and I look forward to hearing some insight from its leaders.

This single act will solve most of the problem. Anyways even if you guys don't allow,Israel's insanity(of building settlements as if there is no tomorrow) ensures that Arabs will be Majority in Greater Israel and that Israel will inevitable be rightfully renamed Palestine :)

I recently atnetded the Deeper Level 2012 UNconference and there are only two words to describe it Supernatural Phenomenon . God spoke to me in such a powerful way, a gift I had not focused on since I was a child (I'm 29) was brought to my attention in a way I had never seen before. I have perfect pitch and can get on the piano and pretty much play the basics of what I hear. I took it for granted and buried my talent.. God told me What are you doing here?? and by the end of the conference I felt a fresh anointing over my hands. I came home and today I got on the piano to play one of my favorite songs Jesus At The Center . I learned it and now I'm going to study the charts to perfect the gift God has given me! I can go and on, giving one testimony after another. Keep doing you Israel. I'm spreading the word to Southern California and supporting your ministry 100%. We need more worshipers like you and your family. Praying for you all always! May God overflow you only how He can! Jennifer Croce

      Well, Igor.
Most of us acknowledge that Israel has the right to protect its citizens... It does NOT have the right to continue to steal more land from others. I suspect that you'd feel differently were they to, say, take your land, bulldoze YOUR house, shut off YOUR water, to make room for more condos for themselves.
These men realize that Israel's long-term future is bleak unless they leave Palestine the 22% of its territory remaining after 1967. (Note: These guys tacitly acknowledge that that war was all about Israeli expansion and that "Nasar did not want war with Israel".) In 1967, I was as ignorant as you and actually cheered the Israeli victory.

There are ever been in our history traitors or, to say the least, "people with different ideas"
The facts are simple: Israel tried anyway to make peace so many times and was ready many times to give back all or almost all of the so called occupied territories: simply the Arabs did not accept. Do you know why? because they want us dead or slaves and want all (even Europe) the land.
So plse forget about the settlers (which I admire) : we are all settlers in their eyes, including these "gatekeepers"
Their fathers are turning round in their graves when they hear the stupid things they are saying.

And it's always disturbing that the US (a permanent members of the UN security council) has been single-handedly protecting Israel for every single crime it commits, since 1972.
It's even more disturbing amidst the fact that:

    Israel owns nuclear weapons
Israel owns hundreds of illegal settlements
Israel dispatches more than 500.000 illegal settlers
Israel locks 1.500.000 human in an open air prison
Israel showered children with white phosphorous
Israel declares an unilateral declaration of its eternal capital
Israel gives incentives and endorses more illegal settlers to settle.
    Israel keeps expanding illegal settlements
Israel never listens the US when it comes to illegal settlements
Israel imposes apartheid system in the occupied territories
Israel inspired 9/11 attack (82' Israel's invasion of Lebanon)
Israel's Prime Minister said 9/11 is good for Israel (Netanyahu)
Israelis were found dancing in 9/11
Israel bombed American/British library and blamed it on Egpyt (Lavon affair)
Israel killed many USS liberty crews.
Israel said the illegal US invasion to Iraq is good for Israel.
Israel is famous for its false flag operations around the world.
Israel constantly kills foreign scientists and politicians
Israeli Spiritual Leader said it wants annihilate all Arabs (Ovadia Joseph)
Israel wiped out 700.000 people from their hometown
Israel has the Government originated from a terrorist gang (Irgun to Likud)
Israel violates UN resolutions more than any other country on earth
Israel doesn't want the entire middle east free from nuclear weapon
Israel remains as the only obstacle to create A Nuclear Weapon Free Middle-East
Israel refuses to sign Non-Proliferation Treaty
Israel helped South African Apartheid government obtained its nuclear weapon.
Israel posses nuclear strike capabilities within the entire Middle East,
Africa, Europe, Asia and almost all parts of North Americas, South
    America and North Oceania)

The US even tried to jeopardize 2012 Palestinian legal, democratic attempt to seek non-observer state in the UN General Assembly (as if Israel will listen to the US afterward).

Kay....If we were to list the attrocities committed by Arabs against Jews over the last hundred years, there would not be enough room in the forum to list them. No one is denying that Israel has not been the perfect world citizen. However, when one is surrounded by people who vow to destroy Israel and "throw the Jews into the sea" I would instantly trample the rights of a few to protect the many. Every Western Country in recent world history committed attrocities far more heinous and greater than the fabled displacement of a Palestinian people who, until Yassir Arafat coined the phrase, never existed.
However, as they say, two wrongs do not make a right....Hence, if the "Palestinian" people elect leadership whose political platform does not include annihilation of the state of Israel; perhaps we could live together in peace?

At first glance one might think it is true. Israel is the worst country in the world. But once you put more thought into it which unfortunately much of the world is incapable of doing, you begin to wonder. Either Israel is truly the worst country in the world or the victim of international bigotry, discrimination, antisemtism, and libellous slander.

Judging by the fact that Muslim arab women living in Israel have more rights than they have in the entire Middle East and Israel is a pluralistic society that respects all race and religions etc etc I would lean towards the latter.

The price of empty words (1968-now..)

“Although we have expressed our views to the Foreign Ministry and are confident there can be little doubt among GOI leaders as to our continuing opposition to any Israeli settlements in the occupied areas, we believe it would be timely and useful for the Embassy to restate in strongest terms the US position on this question" 1968

"As a matter of policy, we do not provide assistance to the Israeli Government for projects in the occupied territories" 1971

"On the general question of constructing housing and other permanent civilian facilities in the occupied zone, including Jerusalem, our policy is to call for strict observance of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, to which Israel is a party. This Convention prohibits an occupying power from transferring parts of its own population into occupied territory." 1971

"We regret Israel's failure to acknowledge its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention as well as its actions which are contrary to the letter and the spirit of this convention." 1971

“This matter of settlements in the occupied territories has always been characterized by our Government, by me and my predecessors as an illegal action.” 1977

"...Our position on settlements in the occupied territory has been that they are illegal, that they are an obstacle to peace." 1978

"...We regard settlements in the occupied territories as illegal under international law, and we consider them to be an obstacle to the successful outcome to the current negotiations which are aimed at a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the Middle East..." 1980

"Further settlement activity is in no way necessary for the security of Israel and only diminishes the confidence of the Arabs that a final outcome can be fee and fairly negotiated.” 1982

“My position is that the foreign policy of the United States says we do not believe there should be new settlements in the West Bank or in East Jerusalem. And I will conduct that policy as if it’s firm, which it is, and I will be shaped in whatever decisions we make to see whether people can comply with that policy. And that’s our strongly held view.” 1990

“Every time I have gone to Israel in connection with the peace process on each of my trips I have been met with the announcement of new settlement activity... I don’t think there is any greater obstacle to peace than settlement activity that continues not only unabated but at an advanced pace." 1991

“The United States believes that no party should take unilateral actions that seek to predetermine issues that can only be reached through negotiations. In this regard the United States has opposed, and will continue to oppose, settlement activity in territories occupied in 1967 which remain an obstacle to peace.” 1991

“We write you because we are concerned that unilateral actions, such as expansion of settlements, would be strongly counterproductive to the goal of a negotiated solution and, if carried forward, could halt progress made by the peace process over the last two decades. Such a tragic result would threaten the security of Israel, the Palestinians, friendly Arab states, and undermine U.S. interests in the Middle East.” 1996

“The Israeli people also must understand that . . . the settlement enterprise and building bypass roads in the heart of what they already know will one day be part of a Palestinian state is inconsistent with the Oslo commitment that both sides negotiate a compromise.” 2001

“Consistent with the Mitchell plan, Israeli settlement activity in occupied territories must stop, and the occupation must end through withdrawal to secure and recognized boundaries, consistent with United Nations Resolutions 242 and 338.” 2002

“I traveled to Ramallah and I saw your [settlement] construction with my own eyes. It is not possible to operate in the territories in a manner that will change the situation before discussions on final status... I traveled close to Ma’ale Adumim, and I saw the construction along the way.” 2005

"The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop." 2009

"The United States therefore calls upon both the parties to resume direct talks without preconditions on all the issues that divide them and we pledge that the United States will be there to support the parties vigorously in such efforts. The United States will continue to urge all parties to avoid any further provocative actions – in the region, in New York and elsewhere," 2012

OK, ok, atrocities have been committed by both sides. That is sadly an integral part of human nature and has been such throughout human history. Sad, tragic, terrible – but there it is (or was). The issue now is, HOW to move forward in a different direction? Enough injustice, enough suffering and killing! Israelis and Palestinians must sit together in PEACE, work things out, in fairness – admitting past injustices, past errors. Humans CAN do this. There simply is no alternative except eventual MAD, mutual assured destruction. For Heavens sakes, the people have to force their leaders to cut out the crap and DO PEACE. NOW!

@marden, as a muslim i criticise what you wrote strongly. In my religion, it is never justified to be bigoted, unjust to other peoples, and NEVER justified to kill innocents, even when the other side has killed and committed atrocities. in this case israel has committed terrible acts of horrific inhumanity, but Palestinians are not free of commiting acts that are war crimes either. it will not help the palestininan cause if we deny our own mistakes or become our enemies. Your words "incinerate the israeli" are horrifying. Not cuz of politics, but that one could ever call that for another human being. Remeber inspite of all things even that isreali soldier who shot a scholl girl dead is human. his heart m,ay be horrifically twisted and awful, but hes still human. perhaps, more than his victims he needs a touch of mercy in the twisted depths of his heart, it is so painful being there.

The Israelis, with the support of many American Jews, will get us into a third world war, all to steal more land from the Palestinians. To make matters worse, though the Jews only comprise 1.5 % of the American population, they seem to control 99% of American foreign policy at times. This has not made them a very popular group in the US, except for the born again Christians, who give them lots of money and support; however, the American Jews the the evangelicals are deluded fools, which they are. I support a two state solution; what is happening to the Palestinians is not unlike some of the things that happened to the Jews under Hitler. How can the Jews be so blind to their own injustices? Don't they realize the rest of the world does not consider them the Chosen People (a racist theory anyway), but merely religious fanatics who are destroying the Palestinian people, for almost 70 years? Maybe they just don,t care, since they think they are the Chosen, and others just don't matter. If you listen to the Super Zionists, this is pretty much just what they think. The nation of Israel, as it is, has to be stopped, now, from destroying the Middle East, and possibly the world. I pray it happens.

AND WHEN A MAN IS BEND TO DOING EVIL AGAINST YOU NO MATTER WHAT,YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOOSE IF DEFENDING YOURSELVE GOES BEYOND YOUR BOTHER,For every muslims,Isreal's History tells them they where forced to believe in allah by war and killings-and that they don't want to hear, they want to frame a different ideology. And i tell you, thats where this is leading to.

To an agnostic like me... the Israel/Palestine issue, islamic terrorism, emergence of the christian right (?) in US .. all point to the stupidity of people killing and getting killed in the name of something called GOD!

The three middle eastern religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) are naive/childish at best and have certainly been the cause of most of wars in the last 2000 years. Unfortunately, they continue to dominate the human race.

So, guys let us all just take a deep breath, stop the continous childish name calling, list of atrocities by the 'other' side. Palestinians/Israelis are like two kids in the playground who just will not STOP fighting. Solution? sit them down and give them a talking-to, OR stop arming them at least. Maybe if everyone left them alone, they will figure it out themselves?

It seems no one has commented on the map in the background of the interview video (top video on this page).
What were the glowing arcs of light ending in temporarily glowing spots of light at various locations? Are these WW3 intercontinental ballistic missile paths? Nothing about that map and its arcs of light seemed to relate to the interview. Are viewers being warned subliminally?

You can know a lot about a people by the way they treat people under their control. We saw it with the Apartheid regime in South Africa, the Nazis in Germany and now with the Israelis and their treatment of the Palestinians.

Incidentally, towards the end of the apartheid regime in South Africa, one of the country's forever propping them up, was you've guessed it...Israel. If these 6 guys can utter some of sentiments in this piece, then I guess those of us who have been worried about the situation in Israel for years have not been crazy or anti-Israel as we are often labelled.

You cannot dominate a people forever.....the Nazis couldn't do it and for damn sure, Israel wouldn't succeed in doing it either. Give them their state and concentrate on defending yours...there is no other way!

Those who know the meaning of PEACE should band togeather, tighter than ever. Remember the bad guys always seem obsessed with contolling others, using;abusing;forcing their fellow mankind to do stuff that satisfies thier selfishness.
