Former Israeli intelligence chief: Trust Kerry on Syria

August 28th, 2013
04:54 PM ET

By Mick Krever, CNN

Former Israeli intelligence chief General Amos Yadlin told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Wednesday that the world can rest assured that any American claims that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons are accurate.

“The American intelligence community is very, very careful after Iraq, 2003. And I know personally most of them. I know personally General Clapper, with the DNI,” Yadlin said from Jerusalem. “When I hear the determination of Secretary Kerry, I know that the intelligence is very solid. When he says that Assad has done it, I think that the American public and the international community should trust that this is a very reliable intelligence.”

Before the alleged chemical attack outside Damascus last week, Israeli intelligence overheard Syrian military commanders discussing moving chemical weapons to the area of the attack, CNN learned from diplomatic sources. That intelligence was shared with the United States.

“I am sure the Israeli input was very significant,” General Yadlin said of the U.S. intelligence assessment on Syria.

If the intelligence does lead the United States and its allies to strike Syria, Israel – as its neighbor – will likely be on edge.

“If the attack on Syria will be limited, focussed, and a punishment attack, and not an attack to overthrow Assad, the chances that he will choose [to] attack on Israel are quite low – even though we have to be prepared,” General Yadlin said. “We have to be prepared because this dictator already proved that he not always play[s] according to a rationale that we exercise.”

Althought the World looks increasingly mixed up, we should not loose sight of the fact that there is a solid undercurrent that is taking shape, a love a peace, that has been repeatedly subdued and at times mercilessly torn apart by agents of darkness, they themselves unaware of how their actions repeatedly come back to haunt them. The loving and peace loving especially those of have reached the higher levels, those who constantly preach to us the virtues of a loving and peaceful character incapable of going against the natural rythm of Life should keep heart because your glory day of triumph is nigh.

Wait for the results of the U.N. which could take several weeks ? This would only give Assad even more time to disperse his valuables.

Are you really expecting anyone to take a link to a website called BeforeItsNews.com (Before its news .com), where people post their own "reports", seriously?

Perhaps your next "report" should be taken from collegehumor.com...

No need to talk any further. Just send in the Tomahawks to take out all the runways and ammunition dumps and the SLA and Arab League will take care of the rest

Yes er ree...OUR PRESIDENT is backing The Syrian Al Qaeda Rebels..The order he signed broadly permits the CIA and other U.S. agencies to provide support that could help the rebels oust Assad. Just another country that has been on their list to take over...It is all in the long term plan of One World Government...With the United Nations at the helm..

This is only for the benefit of Israel (with its UK and USA partners) to control the mid east and its oil and gas reserves and pipelines.

Israel as a vested interest to con the american public to donate military support.

What is next, a note from John Kerrys mother? Believe my son, he is a good boy....

no he isnt, a corrupt CRF politician

What is Israel's interest in this? It should be noted that according to the book of Samuel and Psalm 60, Aram Soba, the Biblical name for Aleppo, was part of the extended area of Israel. A Jewish presence in Syria therefore dates back to Biblical times and is intertwined with the history and politics of Jerusalem and no Israeli leader has declared where the eastern border of Israel will be.

It is being said that the Free Syrian Army Rebels, of whom our government has been backing, are the ones who used the chemical weapons on their own people. Sounds like something scripted by our own government doesn't it? Me...I am still trying to see if the chemical weapons story is even true lol much less who did it. Man I just don't believe anything anymore.. and rightly so from all I have learned...If we attack Syria, which it appears we will, I just hope they realize who their REAL enemy is...Certainly not the people of the U.S. but our government... I hope to live long enough to see our military personnel make their own judgment and no longer fight the dirty wars the politicians want them to fight for them..A sad day on our planet ..

How right you are in your judgement!! USA needs a 'US Spring' and that, ASAP. Think about it, USA used large scale chemical weapons in Vietnam killing millions (not a mere 1300 as reported in Syria by the media), maiming few millions for generations. Who should bomb USA then – if that is considered the right and moral thing to do. Where did we get it right saying that killing by the so called conventional weapons is moral and right, and anything other than is 'illegal'!! Whose definition is that killing is right in the first place? What is the difference between terrorists killing few hundreds, Governments that kill few hundred thousands? What sort of world we are leaving behind for our future generations, all for a commodity called 'oil & gas'!!

Why can't UN talk of sending the UN Peace Corps, sending UN representatives to Syria to run the country, bringing about peace? Why can't all countries be banned from selling arms to these barbaric people who anyway kill themselves? Why did n't world go to Nelson Mandela before bombing the s...t out of Iraq? Because he is black? How is one form of mass destruction and killing justify the other form of killing and destruction? World leaders? Tony Blair Middle East Peace Envoy??

Wait for the nature to answer human evil. It is just round the corner of a scale that this planet has never seen. Europe and North America will freeze this winter; Middle East will see no water for ever (sorry, they have the most treasured liquid and gas!!). Greed is the root cause, we don't need all that much to lead a peaceful life.

The problem with waiting for inspectors is they might provide proof that your wild thearies simply aint true, any rational human being would wait for the report from the inspectors. The main problem is that joke of a security council that has failed miserably so far, they have driven things to this point by 3 of them being directly involved in the war on the battle field and in international law.Assad should have an arrest warrant out for him already before it became a war,but certain security council members took it apon them selves to make sure things esculate untill this level.

To solve this crisses you need a security council that has no direct interests in Syria not a security council that has 3 active permenant members of the council directly active in a war they let happen.

One asks himself what Christiane Amanpour wtnead to tell us with this "one year long investigation" as it is referred to in the CNN ads. Was it her goal to tell us, that all religions have their share of crazy people? And while this program was promoted, we had to watch again and again the ad for "Worlds untold stories getting rid of gay" about some crazy Christians who think they can heal gayness. It felt like CNN wtnead to make a point about how all of the book religions are actually the same. But then again, how can they compare some local movements which have no influence at all on lets say Europe or the Christian World outside the US and specially not on the catholic parts, as Christian Amanpour didn't find catholic warriors , with global jihad which is not only directed at Israel and the West, but also against the Hindu- and Buddhist world? It makes no sense. This program was a huge disappointment. Especially when you think about, that Christians Parents fled from Iran when the crazy Mullahs took over, and that's now how she sees it. One could expect more dept and less superficial PC from her . And it's not that CNN produces no good reports. Nic Robertson, Bergen and Michael Ware lead the way.

It was a big deal for everybody. The idea of a debt ceinlig is to place a limit on how much the government can borrow. and debt ceinlig fight has more than a few individuals concerned about how much the United States has to pay. Many wonder if the common pick for the country that owns America China will leave the United States in its wake. But Business Insider makes a point that China is not what many believe it is. China is a player, but the real solution to the country that owns America is really America. We own our own debt.

I wouldn't trust Kerry to sprinkle ice chips on my snow cone. Obama's foreign policy in the Middle East is dictated by his benefactors in the oil rich Arabian Peninsula. The wealthy Sunni Arab/ Moslems are scared to death of the Shia Persian/ Moslems. And the Assad regime in Syria is a tool of the Shia dictatorship in Iran which has threatened the monarchies in the Arabian Peninsula countless times. Obama is trying to curry favor with his masters by going after Assad. At some point he will also go after the mullahs in Iran at the behest of his masters. But Obama would like to hold off on the Iranian campaign until after the mullahs nuke Israel.

Hi Doug One of the finest insight provided thus far!! I would beg to differ on 'mullahs of Iran nuking Israel' though. As Albert Einstein said, the fourth world war will be fought with axe and bows and arrows!! Saudi Arabia and Qatar, the sunni dictatorships with no rights to women whatsoever, are the most favored regimes of the West!! Enjoy

As much as I respect Israel Iwould ask Israel to be quiet on this because it has intrests in this. More to this they are always offensive. You can never expect a fair proposal from there. One time some years back such was a claim that Israel used chemical weapons to the palestines. No fair deal from there. We respect you Jesus was born there so let it be
