Open Letter to Christiane Amanpour
I don't know how much Syria crisis has blocked the eyes of the world's greatest heroes of our time in the media profession. As you know global discuss shift impulsively from time to time depending on the springing up of issues that meet head lines. It has not been long when the two brothers threatened the peace of America by planting bombs that killed innocent Americans, then came the little Pakistanian girl – Malala, who stood out from a society that is known for its tradition of depriving young women the right of education and liberty and became a vocal voice in a land where it is an abomination for a woman to be heard, Though she knew the risk but survived an assassination attempt on her life. Her story took a world stage for over a month. The same was immediately followed by the American man who took hostage of three young women and abused them for almost a decade. Lastly is the Syrian crisis, where innocent civilians, including over 400 women and children that were gassed by their own government as alleged.
When issues of news worthy Crip up from any part of the world I always trust the professionalism of the likes of Christiane Amanpour, Richard Quest and Opera Winfrey. I love their investigative and analytical approach.
The essence of this mail, which I intend to copy to Richard Quest and Opera is to draw your attention to a global news worthy event that took place in the Western part of Nigeria. The story is about a 13 years old boy who to thought every aircraft leaving Nigeria goes to America, so in his dream to go to America, he had one week ago slicked in to the local airport in Benin city in Nigeria, attached himself to tyre of the commercial aircraft enrooted to Lagos. Unknown to any one, both passengers and crew members alike, the boy flew for over 400 km. On landing the boy was discovered by the traffic officers as he was clinging on to one of the tyres. He was arrested by the Nigerian State Security Service and he is still being detained, the mother has been denied access to meet with the son. What I think the boy actually need is a Psychologist and not to be seen as a criminal. My desire for the boy is that Christiane Amanpour or Richard Quest should seek out for the 13 year old boy, whom I learnt was addicted to Western movies and perhaps was trying the stunt action.

Obama told Kerry to say softly that it woul be ok if Syria handed over their chemical stock pile to save his popularity, because he knew he was going to lose in the congress vote. Right, the Russians went for it and so did the Syrians right away, again because it wil take a very long time. But if the congress votes no to a military intervention, that means good bye to the deal. They are playing with you and us, don't try to make logic out of it because Obama is lost in translation!!
BTW I forgot to say, that was the way Obama found to get out of this mess he put himself into!
Being a first generation Indian-American Muslim, I have been watching your coverage of war torn countries when I could barely speak English while in India in 1990. I always admired your courage in covering the atrocities of the various dictators (e.g. Saddam in first gulf war). I commend you for emphasizing your argument today (12th Sep) on “AC 360 Later” on why it is our (USA) moral duty to stand up against atrocities against innocent people (preferably sooner than later). Without fulfilling such moral duty we compromise not just our moral authority & values but also our national interest & world leadership – not just political leadership but also economic leadership (because it becomes difficult for US companies to do business internationally if we get perceived as cold blooded for doing nothing to stop the killing of innocent people).
For all the pundits against this argument, just imagine a better world where the world leaders of its time should and could have intervened sooner and could have saved lives of millions of Jews in Germany (WWII), hundreds of thousands of Rwandans in 1994, and tens of thousands of Bosniaks & Kosovar in Yugoslav War (1991-99).
As for Mr. Putin’s criticism for America, how many Russian media outlets (whether print or digital) would publish American Leader’s open letter to Russian audience or how many first generation immigrants one would see in prominent positions in Russia or how many Russians one would see openly and freely criticizing their government or leaders ? Yes, America has done a lot of dark things in its past; however, with its self reflection, self-criticism and self-correction culture, America – sooner or later – has always right a past wrong (whether women’s right, African-American’s rights, overthrowing Jim Crow laws, and now rights of gays & lesbian), unlike Russia which still continue to oppress its people and media. So, Mr. Putin these are things (and not US military and economic power) which makes America exceptional.
Christiane, please keep arguing for such moral values which will continue to make America a bright beacon on the top of the hill.
