This will backfire in a way the Islam is not ready to withstand. The Mainstream Muslim so far have not tried to reign in the militant fringes and if they wait much longer, that possibility will become 'moot'!!!
The Big Brother period will pass but it will span at least 100 years, during this time we will experience many different attempts to "throw off the yoke of oppression". (how many times have we heard that slogan being uttered in power grabs by this or that organization in the past?)
Man can only look to the internet (ie. free flow of information) to finally bring this vicious cycle of (Who's on top) that we are in to an end. But it will take a while.
