I was interested and excited when I learned of the program with Jeremy Ben-Ami, Executive Director of J Street and David Harris the Executive Director of AJC. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was soon negated by the manner in which Amanpour conducted the "interview". Firstly, it was clear to me that the questions directed towards Ben-Ami were open ended and allowed him to convey the information that he wanted to convey. By contrast, Amanpour's questions to Harris were at times "leading" and were intended or otherwise had the effect of putting him on the defensive. For those aware of the controversy surrounding J Street, the obvious questions to Ben-Ami would have included inquiries including the source of their funding and what their actual positions are on issues. It has been reported that J Street receives significant funding from Arab/Muslim sources which is certainly pertinent information in assessing their credibility and legitmacy as a "pro-Israel" lobby. Next time, a more balanced and more objective approach would be appreciated.
I think it would be productive and helpfull to hear what does the Taliban think about what is going on in Afghanistan and their recommendation. Maybe a debate between the Taliban and the government. So far, we have only heard one side.
See similarities between people and countries, some are ready to make change and others are not. If we were to examine countries in terms of what developmental milestones they had reached given their history and culture we might have so many judgmental views based only on our own perspectives.
