Happy New Year! As we begin the first work week of the first year of the new decade, we have plenty to tell you about, beginning with today’s show which is all about Iran after the worst violence since last summer. After the government crackdown during the recent holy period of Ashura, how far will President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei go to forestall a velvet revolution? Are cracks appearing in the united front presented by the Islamic Republic? Or is change even possible in an Iran where the Revolutionary Guard has its own military-industrial complex and a steadfast devotion to the status quo? And how will the Iranian opposition persist in the face of the bullets and beatings at the hands of the Basij militia? Christiane sits down with opposition supporters to look at who is really leading the protest movement: the people or the politicians.  And we are joined from Tehran by political analyst, Prof. Mohammad Marandi. That’s not the only topic in  the news today. Here are some perspectives on some other stories making headlines that resonate across the globe.

YEMEN – Can the government there successfully crack down on Al Qaeda?

–          France today joins the U.S. and Britain in closing its embassy in Yemen amid new Al Qaeda threates

–          New threats follow alleged attempt by a Nigerian man to blow up a transatlantic airliner on Christmas Day. U.S. Pres. Obama linked man to Al Qaeda affiliate in Yemen

–          Head of U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus, met Yemeni President on Saturday. Yemeni forces today kill two suspected Al Qaeda activists

QUESTION: Will U.S. become even more closely involved in campaign against Al Qaeda in Yemen?

IRAQ/AFGHANISTAN – Will the U.S. accelerate withdrawals from Iraq as war in Afghanistan escalates?

–          NATO reports first combat deaths of New Year in Afghanistan, four American troops and a British soldier

–          2009 was deadliest year of the Afghan war for coalition forces so far, with 514 coalition troops killed

–          In Iraq, December was first month of entire war there in which there were no American deaths in combat

QUESTION:  Will the United States accelerate the deployment of reinforcements to Afghanistan if the violence in Iraq continues its downward track?

INTELLIGENCE – how close is the CIA to the Jordanian intelligence service?

–          Washington Post reports a Jordanian intelligence officer was among eight people killed in a Taliban suicide bomb attack against a CIA post in Afghanistan

–          Washington Post says Jordanian was a captain in Jordan’s General Intelligence Department

–          Jordan praises the officer for his “humanitarian work” in Afghanistan as his casket returns home with full military honors

QUESTION: What was a Jordanian intelligence officer doing at a CIA base in Afghanistan?

Tom, the idea may not seem farfetched as even a rudimentary democratic status established in Iraq has started to have its cascading effect on far more refined (Persian culture) Iranian masses.

It can be speculated with surety that quest for democracy in Iran will grow day by day and as far media’s role is concerned; well at least our Christiane will have her hands “full”.

    Dear Christiana Amapour,

I am one of your fans and I enjoy the practical and entertaining way you present your programmes.

I am Nigerian and I will want you to highlight in your programme the pains and disappoinments of millions of Nigerians over the recent announcement by US authorities to criminalise all Nigerians on the basis of the December 25th foiled terror plot by Farouk. Adding Nigeria as terrorist Nation on the basis of that singular act is a collective punishment on the masses of peace loving Nigerians. So many facts was not considered in arriving at such a bad decision.

    1. Nigeria has a population of roughly 150 million persons roughly divided into two halves of muslims and christians
    2. The terror suspect was not radicalised in Nigeria, but in Britian and middle east
    3. The family of the suspect never supported this act and Nigerians have collectivelly and individaully condemned this act of terror
    4. In the past, countries whose citizens are known terrorist and have commited act of terror are not blacklisted the way Nigeria has been blacklisted. For example, the shoe bomber is a British citizen..why was UK not blacklisted after the shoe bomber was convicted (a case of double standard).
    5. In the list of blacklisted countries or countries considered as security threat, Egypt was not listed even though some of the 9/11 suspects and master minders are from that country (a case of double standard).
    6. Nigerians are hardworking and pro-western in many respects and getting these punishment because of a singular act of a black sheep is not fair in many respects taking into cognisance of the fact that this boy was schooled and indoctrinated in Britain and recruited and equipped in the Arabian Peninsula.

Blacklisting Nigeria as a security threat on the account of this is not a fair judgement

Please air this view and I hope somebody will be listening. We are pained!!

Thanks for the advice on credit repair on this excellent site. Some tips i would tell people should be to give up the particular mentality that they may buy currently and shell out later. Being a society many of us tend to try this for many issues. This includes vacation trips, furniture, along with items we wish. However, you'll want to separate your current wants out of the needs. If you are working to boost your credit score actually you need some trade-offs. For example you'll be able to shop online to save cash or you can look at second hand merchants instead of high-priced department stores pertaining to clothing. https://zyprexaolanzapine.com/#
