On AMANPOUR. today, we look at the human cost of rapid economic development in India. A booming India has provided millions in Mumbai, Bangalore and other cities the good life: jobs in call centers and high tech, lifestyles scripted out of a Bollywood romance. But behind the urban prosperity lies an ominous reality; 600 million people eking out a living on parched lands, so indebted that for many people suicide seems the only way out. A growing divide - between urban plenty and rural poverty - has come together in a battle over electricity, where India’s wealthiest man is attempting to expand a power plant on the fragile ecosystem just outside Mumbai, despite community resistance and court orders limiting his influence. A globalizing India desperately needs the power, but will the world’s largest democracy ignore the plight of local farmers, and what does this mean for hundreds of millions who live off the land? There are also some other important issues in the news tod ay as well. Here are perspectives on some other headlines today.

– Al Qaeda linked group al-Shabaab warned WFP to buy food from Somali farmers or stop sending aid to the impoverished country

India population is their strenghth and at the same time their weakeness.Just like in United States, many are wealthy with good life and jobs and beneath all those glamour lies poverty and those that could not afford basic good health.Take ants for example, they are highly organised in their society but over population in air,water sea, soil has made them different from other kinds of creatures.
Globalization is a perfect tool when all the individuals from the farmers to the government works together in the process. Why are the farmers not part on this debate? At the end of the road the wrong solution brings kaos and poverty.

Instead Amanpour concentrating on other countries inefficiency and fault in thier policies why cant she cover her own countries inefficiency and fault policies.Every country has its own up and down if you more concentrating on down part it wont be good for journalism it will give an negative impact on the program.

I was watching Amanpour's program on the farmer's suicide in India . While a part of your show was highlighting a particular issue i,e the problems caused by the power plant in Dahanu , the other side you are talking about farmer suicide in the other part of the state(Maharashtra) caused due to a reason totally unrelated to the Dahanu issue.
In the last budget, to help out these farmers the government of India wrote off millions which the farmers owed to the state banks. These farmers were & are in debt due to various reasons .
I felt that this time Christina or her producers have not done their homework right & the program was lost on her too. India is a vast country in terms of it"s diversity & the problems are manifold – differing from state to state .
Also, I feel, you got the wrong guests on board today . Next time, when you do a program on India, kindly do a good amount of homework to handle the program well so that you can ask the right questions to your panel of guests . You can consult with your sister channel CNN IBN – I am sure they do a decent job.
