Marijuana replacing poppy

In Helmand province, CNN's Atia Abawi visits a field where marijuana plants are grown instead of poppies. One farmer says he's growing the drugs out of economic desperation – he says he would grow grapes if they would pay enough.

Marijuana seems to be an improvement.
This tragic story of farmers has been going on too long. They need to be able to grow food. And whatever they need for their families and for the marketplace.
This using Afghani farmers to feed the drug habit of the world is sick.

I would much rather see the Afghan farmers grow marijuana than poppies. Heroin is 100 times more of a killer to our society than marijuana. People can survive marijuana - I did, I grew up in the 60's. Do not hear the same story from Heroin users. Most people on Heroin can never kick it - it destroys them and their lives.

In your recent show about reconciling with the Taliban, you used the statement "Pashtun majority." They are not. They are simply the largest minority in Afghanistan.

Drugs busness ll never stop... It's regrettable but in the other way how could we blamn those people who have this only way to get some money and buy food for them familly.
But there is something who surprised me, Is that the coalision forces are just watching them doing it... couldnt"t they help them to find another activity to do??
Thanks to Atia Abawi to have done this report.
