The interview with Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of a founder of Hamas who claimed he became a spy for Israel's domestic security service proved exceptionally popular.  Religion controlled all discussions Amanpour viewers shared regarding this interview.  Emotions grew strong as viewers exchanged their clearly favored point of view, especially in Facebook.  In addition, peace continued to be the desired outcome among a few, who felt it was “still attainable.”  Lastly, record amount of emails received concerning one topic that many considered a revelation, the documentary Scream Bloody Murder which, was described as “absolutely riveting and breathtaking!”

No levelheaded, peace loving human being want to see proliferation of nuclear weapons. While Iran is in the 'hot seat', one could not help but wonder why isnt there any scrutiny on the Israelis? Its incomprehensible to see a how a 'probably nuclear armed nation' driving the effort to pressure a 'potentially nuclear ambitious nation'. Because of this unfairness, we, in the west have no moral standing to lecture Iran.

Dear Christiane:
The foreign relations committee in Congress sticks it to a NATO ally and friend by passing a resolution condemning the Ottoman Empire for genocide!  Is this how corrupt the political system has become that they would do such incredible damage to Turkish – American relations just to garner Armenian political contributions and votes?  Is this how disdainful they are towards their Party leader President Obama, that they would ignore his appeals and make him look ineffective and weak! Not to mention reinforcing perceptions in the Middle East that the U.S. is still an arrogant and out-of-touch power.  We are talking about the Ottoman Empire, you know, not modern Turkey!  How would the American Government feel if some European country or NATO ally condemned them for the genocide they committed to the American Indian, which is more horrific than anything the Ottoman's did. Hope you will report on how the Islamic government in Turkey is moving to undermine secularism by buying votes and stacking the judiciary and military with Fethullah. Thank you for an excellent show and outstanding reporting.
Raheman

I was crying and watching right now your program: scream bloody murder: you said in Bosnia they lined up Muslims and soldiers made them to give up all they have for their lives and trip out well I am Bahai religion from Iran and that is what they did to my familly and thousands more .......at the end of the show you said will any one listen next time the scream of bloody murder: well listen then this Iranian Mullahs are your next murder if not now already????????  Do they have to nuclear bomb some countries so people wake u p? I hope not.

Christiane,
The report on the genocides from around the world that went unanswered until it was too late really opened my eyes. I hope people can get in touch with reality and just ignore political correctness, politicians with their own agenda after making campaign promises, and foreign policy that doesn't work and realize these are real people dying not statistics. Human beings pictured helpless in horrendous conditions in which no one should be and then their cries ignored for political games. Thank you for shedding light and exposing the truth of the matters.

Comments about “The Son of Hamas”

Okwesili Ndubisi It is an interesting interview.I quite agree with yousef that the problem of palestinian is their ideology and god.

Sumra Amjad well to me this guy is a totally confused being..in the need of becomming a hero he took drastic steps like frm changing loyalties to religion ...no even sure what he is doing is right or not...And i also think that he is being disloyal to himself too because morally he is incorrect

Don Armstrong This interview has interupted my thoughts all this week. Truth orlies, he believes that he is right. He believes enough to lay his life out for something that has changed him and now his life. He has something to say and thank you Christiane for giving him a chance to say it.

Toyin Ipaye As much as I admire his courage, it makes absolutely no sense for him to say the Quoran does not tell Moslems to kill and that they do that based on their own ideology, and still go ahead to say that he faults not the Moslems themselves, but their God.

Emmanuel Kelvin King Bundor now is the time for the world to know that the fight of terrorism and religion is not by killing, bombing innocent lives but knowing that PEACE is all we need. More people wil follow Hassan. Trust me. More are coming to tell the world that Christ love means loving your enemies even if they're after your neck.

Julius Dr.j Musenze I believe him, I don't think he has any reason to lie. And I think he's right when he says "it's not the people, it's the ideology". I know alot of good muslims and none of them has any radical beliefs. I thus equate radicalism to the root of all evil.

Sir-patently you are most ignorant of FACTS. Iran is a fully signed up member to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and all that that implies and requires. Israel chooses not to.

Iran threatens its neighbours and the whole of the middle east and beyond-Arabs included- and advances the destruction of 'Zionism' (sic) ie Israel. It funds and arms terrorist organisations (I know I know' one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter'-and all such left wing PC garbage. NOTE since when did 'freedom fighters' actively target civillains/children/old people in their homes/cafes etc etc).

Do not for goodness sake equate the fascist Ayatollas/Revolutionary Guards in Iran who murder and maim all who stand against them with secular and democratic Israel- a mere fifteen million in an oil-free country on a tiny patch of land desperate for survival amongst HALF A BILLION ARABS

in my knowlege is this poor boy is mind fricked as israilis do to the world. israel is country with no official border as i know its roots are in syria, lebanon, palestine, united nation, or even the world. israel is only one powerfull nation in the world watever they say is right, and is only one holding all veto power because it can use any of those veto vote against anything whitch is against israel weather, u.s.a, france, china, or uk, u name it. israel is like a big tree whitch produce it's fruit like hamas, kasam bridged, islamic jihad, hisbulla, those groups whitch we call terrorist, so terrorist made by israel and its supporters not muslim and arab as the world been confused by the israel, if theres no israel occupation in arab land then i belive theres no terrorist. so why do the world spend billions of dollars to fight this fruit and not to cut the tree witch produce this fruit i mean terrorist. then spend thos billions to help for the poor?

Several other countries have passed resolutions recognizing the massacre of Armenians as a genocide without a proper investigation of all the Turkish archives. The vote in the Foreign Relations committee was passed by only one vote which shows that many felt that it was not the responsibility of elected officials to make such a determination when Turkey feels that not all the circumstances and conditions were taken into consideration and the role of Armenian fighters in initiating the killing of Kurds and Turks and helping the Russians to attack Turkey. When there was an insurrection and complicity with the enemy a decision was made to move the population away from the battle area and not to systematically eliminate civilians. Politicians are pressured by organized groups to vote on single issues in every country. The Diaspora, whether Armenian,Jewish or Greek is usually more radical than those şn the home country and does not take into consideration the national interest of the U:S. It remains to be seen if a vote comes to the Congress and whether they act responsibly. The Obama government, as previous governments recognizes the value of Turkey as an ally and will do everything in its power to discourage this issue from coming to a final vote that will put pressure on elected officials to vote in favor of this non-binding resolution.
With regard to Turkey and the government which is not Islamic except that their members are observant Muslims and the majority of their constituency are sympathetic to Islamic values. We did not call the Republican government of Bush a Christian one even though their Christian members responded to the wishes of evangelicals and voted for or against issues that were seen as concern to Christians such as abortion or same sex marriage etc. The extreme interpretation of secularism that is the state ideology supported by the elite who are indifferent to the violation of human and religious rights and use the judiciary which is not independent but politicized to make decisions not based on the law but ideology. The military as well uses pressure and both together the threat of the closure of the party on grounds of supporting anti-secular activities. The parliament with a constitution which was made by the military after a coup prevents any real reform. The opposition is trying to block any reform of the constitution or cooperate in reforming the judiciary as well as the initiative for reconciliation of the Kurdish citizens in order to stop the insurrection by the PKK, The writer does not understand the meaning of democracy and refers to the stacking of the judiciary and the military with followers of a religious scholar (the secular fundamentalist elite that have kept any religiously observant citizens out of the judiciary and the military discharges hundreds suspected not of any acts against secularism other than praying or having a wife with a headscarf. Both of these institutions require members that are selected and kept for their qualifications and not purged for ideological reasons. The type of secularism that is implemented in the U.S. is what Turkey needs, rather than that of France and some other European anti-Islamic, anti-religious countries. Having a religious life style should not be seen as a threat to a secular country that allows free observance of religious rules such as dress or wearing a beard or offering prayers regularly and on time. Using the fear of slowly Islamicizing Turkey and establishing an Islamic state like Iran the secular fundamentalist elite want to preserve their strangle hold on the state and prevent it from making reforms that will enable it to enter the secular countries of the EU.

Recruitment in intelligence operations plays a vital role in shaping geopolitical destinies, and Mossad (along with few others) have demonstrated their sophistication and flexibility in these regards.

No wonder how a “tiny” democratic nation (Israel) continues to survive amongst hostile environment with such a dominant posture.

    SON OF HAMAS.
Christian your reports have always had a clarity and it has always penetrated deeply on all issue you take on. This is no different.

From this I thought of the impact as a teenager the Diary of Anne Frank motion picture had on me and it left a lasting effect on my views and thoughts on the german race.

This Son of Hamas leaves me with 2 thoughts both on history recent and past

The jews had to be protected from such atrocities of WW2. A permanent abode was found in palestine 60 years ago

^0 years later the Palestinians are were the Jews were at the hands of the Germans. Pyscological extermination in the 21st century is perhaps more politically correct.

The Palestinians unlike their Jewish cousins have not managed the media or the history telling of the last 60 years.

We are stil lhunting the German petrators of WW2. and their misdeeds.
The Son of Hamas is a young man whose life has been twisted sadly beyond repair in what we now term international espionage- a new phrase for anihilating your opponents without drawing blood or poisoning them to death.

This isue sadly has now been relegated to the domain of religious differences and what a pity.

Christiane – A Jewish-born woman who converted to Islam has written an award winning book, "Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils: The Alchemy of Transformation on the Sufi Path". She asserts that the Koran IS a book of mercy and compassion, and that any violence or terrorist acts committed in the name of the Koran is NOT Islam and does NOT represent the word of God as presented in the Koran. If they've done anything, she believes that extremists have hijacked Islam into an aberration.

Maryam Kabeer Faye, winner of the 2009 USA Book News Award for best book in Spirituality, is in complete disagreement with the "Son of Hamas" – and she is available for an interview. Maryam, a Sheikha, is based in Philadelphia – and she travels around the country speaking to university students and faith groups, seeing herself as a bridge of understanding between Islam and non-Muslims.

this is a new plot, confess a little about Israel´s crim for an impossible comparison between a notorious occupier and it´s victim which never gave up a very unfair battle.Trying to make a hero or religious man of a hpyco hot up with sex and money, Israel´s known dirty weapon by now.this plot has started mainly by Goldstone and this ugly creature so called by his inventer a Christian converted men.Hollisy Jesus followers has never been like this.
My long time ideal Christian goes under doubts when she also points the honour killing part of Islam. I know 2 honour killing victims in Sweden one with chilean background the other Kurd, none of them were Muslim for her information. I am sure Iranian and Muslims have treat her mother kindly as an English and Christian lady if she remembers.

    Reply to RAHEMAN,
I just want to believe that you are directly the reincarnation of HITLER. Do I understand you to mean that, until the killings of the Armenians reach 6 000 000 m by the brutal Islamic Republic of Turkey before you agree that, the massacres that Turkey committed was genocide ?.
I use to wonder by the actions of those who don't have concsience and feelings for the killings of other human beings like you. The rest of the countries who have not concede to this horrific killings of the Armenians by Islamic Republic of Turkey, are also like HITLER,IDI AMIN of Uganda themselves. They will see that in future, they are not exception themselves to this atrocities committed by the ISLAMIC Republic of Turkey ,may be the muslim god has also covered their minds just like you.,if you say NO this as GENOCIDE, then what is it ?

Excellent read, I just passed this onto a colleague who was doing a little research on that. And he just bought me lunch since I found it for him smile Therefore let me rephrase that: Thank you for lunch! "No one can wear a mask for very long." by Seneca.
