Today we speak with Dr. Tahir ul-Qadri who has issued a 600-page fatwa against terrorism. Can it stop suicide bombings and encourage moderate Muslims to take a stand against terrorism? We want to launch a conversation how much influence you think a Fatwa has on different societies. So please read the English summary here and tell us what you think in our comment section below:

This was the need of time. I've scanned through the urdu version of complete Fatwa and being a student of Islamic studies I can say that it is very comprehensive and leaves no room for any other interpretation. Quran and Hadith is very clear on this and Dr. Qadri has very clearly and loudly highlighted it. This may not result in an overnight change, but I'm sure this would create a very positive long-term impact.
This is historic and i hope it helps the situation muslims are in but one correction needs to be made to the intro on your blog. This is not a fatwa against "jihad". Your assuming Jihadincludes nothing but suicide bombing and terrorism. Jihad can mean any sort of sturuggle, anything as little as buying food for your neighbour is a form of jihad. To tell muslims they cant take part in jihad would be like telling a christian they cant go to church.
I agree with Nadeem. Its Fatwa against extremism and terrorism and not Jihad. Jihad is a very comprehensive term and its basic meaning is struggle. Any stuggle a Muslim does to do good to himself/herself, his/her family, community, society etc. is jihad. According to the Prophet (PBUH), fighting against own's bad desires is the biggest of jihads. Fighting against terrorism and extemism is also a big jihad of today and that is what Dr. Qadri is doing.
this fatwa against terrorism and suicide bombing is great historical work and the need of time.i have read this fatwa in urdu and have lisstion to the interviews of dr qadri,i am totely agree with his thinking.that the islam is religen of peace and love.terrorism and extremism has no place in islamic teaching.

this is a brave step towards the peace process specially the situation we are facing as a Muslim and it helps a lot to the whole world to understand the true Islam.in the last i must say that in the intro correction required in the first line of the blog (Today we speak with Dr. Tahir ul-Qadri who has issued a 600-page fatwa against jihad) this is not against jihad but against terrorism.
I belong to the youth of current era, and I believe that if i do not found Dr.Qadri and the guidence of Dr. Qadri may be I also included in the line of terrorist. Dr. Qadri is the path of light in this era of darkness who guding me and the youth like me. i would like to write that this is the Era of Dr. Tahir Qadri and I am proud of that " I am living in the Era of Dr. Tahir ul Qadri. let us give hands to the efforts of This Historical Man to for the survival of Humanity, Peace and Love.
You (Christiane Amanpour) wrote in the introduction of this topic as "fatwa against jihad" which needs to be changed according to the title of the fatwa as "Fatwa on Suicide Bombings and Terrorism". Nadeem and Sharjeel Ahsan have already explained about the meaning of the term Jihad. I agreed with them and request you to change the misleading statement as soon as possible.
I am from india and I am folowing Dr Tahir ul Qadri for many years through his speeches on internet. i am extreamly happy that he took this action against extemist . This fatwa is very important people are going to listen it beacuse Dr Tahir ul Qadri is a very important perosn and people respect him. This fatwa will help youth to understand that islam dosent except violence at any condition. Extemist fundamentalist uses islam as a tool to fulfill their perosal interest:

how amazing to hear these words last night.
there are two things I thought in amazement.
first thing is that this insight could have been issued by Muslim religious authorities earlier so to stop the more and more increasing examples of holy war heroic gestures that have characterised our present time.imagine how many lives could have been spared( supposing a religious interpretation of these!)
second thing Ul Quadri' words are surely going to have a tremendous impact on those millions that depend on religion for clarification: why not broadcasting it all over the world ( on local tvs) just like the catholic Pope'message is sent every Sunday?
The Fatwa will serve a foundation to educate both Muslims and Non-Muslims regarding the true picture of Islam and would also help to redress the Islam being presented by the so called Talibans. Such book was need of the hour and a lot of thanks to the author.

My view of the world is that we are all brothers and sisters, one united family.
The war on terror, is the war on innocent people. This must stop. We have to stop bashing Muslims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine and the rest of the world.
The western countries must accept that the world will never change if you do not change the cause of terrorism.
The world is so divided between rich and poor. This is totally injust, poverty is the cause of terrorism, it must be eradicated.
There is just one way forward on this planet:
That is to share the resources of the world, because if you share it creates justice and justice will lead to peace.

The sharing of world natural resources justly, not imperialistically, can be a good start; when rich countries stop exploitation of poor nations' resources & people. Without interferring in their internal or regional politics to suit their imperial agendas.
Peace is abstract&precious commodity, its experienced only by a few privilidged elites of this world. Even to them, it is well guarded & highly treasured commodity. To achieve true peace a nation/people must be at peace with itself, its people, its neighbors, friends & enemies alike.
The colonial powers, have over the past 200 years or more been in a conflict amongst themselves on how to divide up the world as part of their dominions, history of which is too well known to need repetition here. But eversince the first discovery of oil in Iraq in the early 1900's:-
The only way to peace, justice&sharing of world resources is through, love of truth, (ie; education=love of learning), respect&building of trust.

This was the requirement of the time and as Dr. Tahirul Qadri well said that all sacholars be stood up for this cause.
I could get chance to watch the complete program alongwith my family members in Qatar .It is the personality of the great scholar in Islam of Dr. Tahirul Qadri that people listen him all over the world and give respect to his sayings.It was also asked in the interview at last that what about the threats to his life and companions after this Fatwa ,a brave reply was given at that point of time.
We pray to God that the life of such scholars be saved with His blessings.
On the whole, the Fatwa represents the first credible attack on the perpetrators of terrorism and questions the legitimacy of their arguments in favour of their heinous actions. He has knocked the bottom from under the feet of the terrorists and their sympathizers. They would not be able to reject the contents of the Fatwa and would find it hard to win over the raw youth for their nefarious objectives. The way the Fatwa has been received in the international media and acclaim it has won from the intellectual quarters proves that such a scholarly response to the scourge of terrorism was dire need of the hour and Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has done a great service to the world and Islam by coming up with such a profound book of learning. The timing could not have been better.

I agree completely with the 2 gentleman. Peace is really just around the corner. We just need the moderates to rise up and throw these "right wing war mongers" out of office. Only then can peace be realized. We, in America, are also in the process of throwing our "right wing war mongers" and those that preach hate. It takes time, but their are way more moderates around the world than ideological extremists. . As you can see, America is voicing their opposition to the new settlements. Finally! One Imam -(that I know of; Thank you C. Amanpour) – declared that he is NOT afraid of being assassinated by the extremists.
It is worthwhile to mention that such extremists
(Jews, Christians and Moslems) are in bed together with each other............ and their objective is MURDER (Suicide-Dumb-cheap-bombs or F-16 smart-expensive-Bombs!
Even if a Palestinian Moslem were to assassinate the Imam (GOD Forbid); he would be a TORTURED graduate of the Israeli Prison system. After all; Hamas is the creation of Israel (Directly or Indirectly) and its occupation of palestine the same way Hizbullah was created during the occupation of Southern Lebanon by Israel.
The first time I saw him was on CNN, which has been labelled a western tool to fight Islam and I believe good can also come evil. I read some portion of the book and I was highly impressed. If our generation does not have this type of teacher "Dr. Qadri" we are at the danger of extinction and when we get to heaven we stand before God and regret our ignorant.

I think this fatwa will prove to be the most successfull step ever taken by any Muslim scholar against terririsom after 9/11, and this fatwa strongly shows that Islam has nothing to do with terrorisom.
As this fatwa address all the question raise by extremist in term of Jihaad, so by reading this it is quit clear what does jihad means in real and what is the price of single life in the light of Quran and Hadith.
I got very much from this fatwa and hope now the image of Islam is very much clear to the western world, that what really Isalm is.

Dr Qadri’s fatwa is an important step for restoring peace in the torn wold.. It may be but a ripple in a pool, but on the other hand it may also be the beginning of a movement of thought and action! The Western media is really wise to highlight it so that the true image of Islam is established.
Dr.Qadri is a unique personality in muslim world.Surely he is a beautiful gift of God for humanity.He has done too much for humanity as i studied on his site http://www.minhaj.org His work for education,welfareand peace and intigration is also unique like him.I think he should be awarded noble peace price of 2010.
Fatwa for Peace with whom? The serbs, the zionists, the imperialists, the vatican, or with all bullies, oppressors, occuppiers & colonialists who have shone injustice against defenceless & peace loving people of Palestine, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Dagestan,
Xinjian or children & elderly of tribal areas in mud-houses of Pakistan.
As long as these regions are rich in oil, gas, minerals, or strategically located in areas close to these resources, they will always be prone to be occupied, harrassed & conspired against by these cowardly
"powers"; who always attack the weak, meek, and defenceless....
Why dont they attack china, russia, or countries that are well armed or have nuclear weapons? These fatwas are only PR efforts by western muslim scholars, instigated by western governments to calm& pacify their angry youth, who are more informed, exposed & in touch with the truth & realities of the designs & agendas of western governments.
