The child abuse scandal in the Catholic Church stirred the emotions of the Amanpour audience. The majority felt celibacy was not conducive for the priests in the Catholic Church because it propelled them to act on their physical instincts at “some point in life.” According to most viewers, the continued claims of child molestation publicly known throughout the years have been few, compared to the real statistics of these “despicable acts” against children. Overall, the audience expressed extreme disappointment over the decision the Church took to hide these incidents instead of legally prosecuting the offenders.

Mary Kadesa The catholic church is a big figure in the history of christianism,I think celibaty was abig mistake and that is the cause of this scandals.
Abimbola Ololade Olutobi i have always thought that catholic celibacy is sheer hypocrisy.Except a man is castrated, sexual feelings are inevitable.it is worse for people who have once had sex before becoming priests or nuns.
Mateus Josefina i think priests are human beings, they can make mistakes just like any one of us,The Vatican is responsable for not being fully aware of this.
Fay Wood Exactly, these are criminal acts i haven't seen any prosecutions just priests being moved to another church!
Pedro Lelis it hasn't changed for years, Church always hid it and denied,on the other hand we had children abused that stayed quite fearing threats from the priests . but nowadays they found a big wall to overcome... Social media, Where people can hide themselves but show the truth, fearless . Will they stop denying?
Jim Anthony Kamau the insult to the injury is that the hierachy of the catholic institution goes out of its way to protect its ranks,in many instances these priests are just transferred to other parishes...kids got out of this abuses are educated by the church and every thing is kept hush hush.Ironically its the same church that is in the forefront in anti contraceptive, anti gayand anti abortion!!!!

The programme advertized for 18th March about the 'Vatican and Child Abuse' wasn't shown today in Europe. Why is that?
Please continue to cover this important issue. I fear by next week the media may have dropped this story. That's exactly what the Vatican would like.
Also I can't believe that any bishop covered up the behaviour of priest child-abuse, without the knowledge of his superior, i.e. the head of the Church.
Shame on all those people who covered up these crimes against children; a crime as bad if not worse than that of the abusers.
Please don't leave CNN. You've touched many lives and you can count on me as one. Wonderful Blog posts as well take care Kristin.
Some defenders of the Celibacy rules of the Catholic church say that statistically the incidence of priests offending sexually is no higher than in the rest of the population. But this view overlooks the fact that priests have had around seven years of spiritual "formation" before being ordained. Should we then not expect the incidence of priests' sexual crimes to be far less than shown by the rest of the population?
Your CNN commentator allowed to pass without challenge one of the most egregious errors in this scandal: that allowing gays in seminary causes the problem. This knee-jerk reaction by church leaders is scape-goating of the worst sort. Most pedophiles are straight men with wives/girl friends and even kids of their own. If the woman from Sacred Heart Seminary, Detroit, actually feels pride in this approach she is one of the oppressors. Seminarians, gay or straight, need to be adults who are dealing with, not sublimating their sexuality. Weeding out these fully-human types leaves the seminaries with a very rarified sort of strange candidate. Good luck with that. And keep your kids away from them!
By the way, I am an alumnus of St. John's Provincial Seminary, Plymouth, MI, where our rector, the late Bp. Ken Untener, actually held a Human Sexuality workshop for us in the '80's. That got him in trouble with the present pope's predecessor. That seminary was later closed by the bishops of Michigan, more's the pity!
When a church promotes teachings of demons (celebacy & abstaining from meat) you can expect problems such as this 1 Tim 4:1-5
Ok so the Pope said “refrain from judging sinners” and this comes a day after he rebuked Irish bishops for their handling of a half-century of sexual abuse of minors by clergy!!! “It was as if he didn’t say a word on it and no one was surprised” is what a news reporter said. I mean just so I am clear on what the rules are – someone commits a heinous act and others in positions of authority cover it up, then all they have to do is say, "oops, sorry," when they are caught. You know if that is the new rule, then we can start closing down all the prisons and jails because I'm sure all the criminals caught from now on will be happy to simply say they are “just so sorry from the bottoms of their hearts”. Seriously though most Priests are there for the people and hate these criminals…this was actually interesting though…
SEXUAL ABUSES IN CATHOLIC CHURCHES ?.
Amanpour our priestess, where have you been to since in the fifties, when all these atrocities were and are still being committed against humanity ?. I guess our Amanpour was then yet to be born that for sure, otherwise no.
One begin to wonder as to whether, there are no civil laws and orders, that will handicap such savage behaviour in the name of CHURCH. When we talk of the CHURCH, we simply mean the body of CHRIST. For Christ is the CHURCH unto the Lord, therefore you have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them for it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done in secret. So when there is a blieve that , the Church is morally bankrupt, spiritually impoverished, and totally dehumanised such as this,it is no longer a church, but an organised Institution of sexual abuses, where the devil now is the head of the Cotholics and not Church. How many of the catholic priests have ever come out to appologise in public for their sex scandales like TIGGER WOOD DID ?.None, not even one until they were caught by their victims.
Any sex done outside of marriage is a sex abuse, that is why the Bible in the book of 1st.Cor. Chapt.7 vs 35-37 says that,(And this I speak for your own profit .......But if any man think that he behave himself uncomely, towards his virgin,if she pass the flower of her age and need so require, let him do what he will ,for he sin not, let them marry....Never theless,...he that has power over his own will, and has so decreed in his heart, that he will keep his virgin,he does well to stay without marriage.
So why are these Cotholics decieving themselves like this priestess ?(AMANPOUR) Why don't they marry and allow young innocent girls and boys to serve the true GOD ?.they need to be punished, priestess what do you say to that ?.
