The U.S. approved pledge of 1.5 billion dollars in humanitarian aid to Pakistan generated many concerns among the majority of the Amanpour audience. Most commented that continuous aid would only make Pakistan dependent by the lapse in social and economic opportunity for its own development.  Additionally, many felt that without the “enforcement” of education, Pakistan would continue to suffer from “its lack of progress” in human development, gender equality and social cohesion.

Hello Mrs. Amanpour,
I am writting you this little email after I watched your interview with President Paul Kagame and I really want to tell you that, President Kagame who most believe as lamb, because his voice like a teenager, he is such predator, a killer, a master minder of the shutting down of the airplane of the President Habyarima and Cyprien Taryamira and He killed his own brothers Tutsi (moderates Tutsi who had been living in Kigali in cohabitation with Hutus). He is responsable of the Genocide in Rwanda according to the investigation report of Spain and France Juges. Paul Kagame is the one who always using some people, giving them wapon and military to fight in the East of the Congo DR. He is one who armed Laurent Desire Kabila (1996) objectif was to kill Hutu's people who fled Rwanda to find refuge in the East of Congo and to take over the power in the Congo DR, he armed Azarias Ruberwa to loot the East of the Congo (Coltan, Diamond, Gold, Copper, etc...) and very lately he armed Laurent Nkunda. Almost 6,000,000 people had been killed and they are still killing and raping women, but ask yourself a question why nobody knows about it? Why the international commitee does not take a serious action for the Congo DR? Why they don't bring to justice Paul Kagame? Who is behind Paul Kagame? We know your relationship with President Paul Kagame, but don't be blind for anything. President Kagame is really causing a hell to the Congolese we are. But believe me, even though we don't have power to take action against Paul Kagame with all these corporations which are behind him, one day God almight will fight against Kagame and his corporations and He'll give us the victory. Soon or later

Can foreign aid help make nations independent or only more dependent?

Michele Corron Furey Aid + Education

Kerian Kang Christiane, I will say it will help nations not only to be independent but also to achieve development. Its been 50years since African got its independence, yet its still the poorest continent on Earth. Africa has received all kinds of foreign aid but yet nothing has changed. I think now is the time for a new approach towards Development.

Chidi Anokwuru There is no free launch.what kind of growth is expected of a nation that depends on loans and grants. There are ways of assisting nations that would not in anyway subject them to slavery, it must done in such as to improve their lot. There is transfer of tech by training, empowering nations by training their nationals.

Hellen Banda Adogo foreign aid makes countries more aid dependent....look at what the Chinese are doing, giving aid in the form of concessional loans to Africa thereby tying Africa to it even more.....

Yemisi Falope "Instead of givin a poor man fish all the time, teach him how to fish" foreign AID does help, but it gets to a point, where u have to re-visit issues.

Dr.Yele Akinrolabu do not give fish.teach them to catch the fish so that they can know the technics of catching the fish and wont depend on u forever.

    WOW!
1.5 billion dollars in humanitarian aid to Pakistan?!?
But if we divide this ONE TIME aid by the number of Pakitani Families; each will get few hundred dollars!
However; when we divide the YEARLY aid to Israel; each Israeli family gets TEN THOUSANDS Dollars per YEAR and EVERY YEAR!
Just do the Math. Please correct me if I am wrong.
CNN: I would appreciate it when aid to any country is explained and mentioned/given :
    PER CAPITA!
Of course; to the Pakistanis; there are strings attached to the aid.
But there are NO strings attached to the aid to Israel. This explain why Israel still occupies the occupied territories (since 1967) and still denies the right of the palestinians to go back to their homes (since 1948). Such Palestinians homes on palestinian land are occupied by Russian/European/American/etc Jews (the so called settlers of the settlements).
Poor palestinians; the road to your freedom is blocked by the might (US Dollars) of the US Congress and the US Senate. Isn't amazing that any bill favoring Israel gets more than 95% of the Votes while the US Healthcare bill may pass by a mere 51% tomorrow..........
One (any informed Free American) has to conclude that the US Congress and the US Senate are more Israelis than American!
Perhaps our politicians should outsource the US Healthcare bill to Israel the same way such politicians outsourced our Manufacturing jobs to China....
