After the Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Deputy shared with Amanpour that his government would take two years to expand the East Jerusalem settlements viewers agreed that the most hopeful outcome to most was peace. Some voted against further Israeli expansion in East Jerusalem because it was felt it opposed peace resolution.

Facebook comments about the Israel plans to expand settlements in East Jerusalem
Dickson Igwe The problem with this issue is that it lies on a theological fault line. And like all controversial issues of religion, we will probably all be gone and this crisis will still be on going.
Dele Adegoke All we need is peace in the middle east. Further Israeli expansion in east Jerusalem may aggravate an already worsening situation.

i am fully supporting obama on his points to israel demanding concrete evidence to show their commitment to peace talks, including stopping all settlement construction in the west bank and jerusalem
i am very unhappy to hear some of your guest from the icc targetting the african leaders of war crimes. what about ex prez Bush and Blair. well the west always want to bully the other. its a shame . the icc should be close with immediate effect. the are racist and bullies. but african shall remain united
The construction or not of buildings in East Jerusalem are probably part of the negotiation between the parties. There are many more issues as relevant as this one. To solve them all they should meet, not use each one as excuses to avoid meeting.
Another interesting issue I often see in your broadcasts, is the word Apartheid you often bring to the face of the Israeli leaders. You should know that apartheid is something else and I believe, as a good reporter, you should make clear this is not the case, instead of use it and create more labels and confusion in the mind of your audience. Not that, the palestinians are the one requiring a jewish-free Palestinian state. This is more racist than anything you can find in Israel where arabs live better than in arab musslim countries. Just for curiosity, how many jews are living in the Gaza, no longer occupied ?
Well the palestinians have been refugess since 1948 and we didn't forget them (LOL) as we (USA) keep paying the Israelis to keep them palestinian refugees and deny them Palestinians the right to return to Palestine (their ONLY HOME) and deny them their right to vote etc... While we (USA) keep paying incentives for (Russian/American/European/etc...) Jews to go to Israel and occupy by force the Palestinian Land and build COLONIES we (USA) call "settlements in disputed territories"...LOL....!!
I just saw your interview on the two state solution. It fascinates and disgusts me that your guests simply avoid the fact that a Hamas Gaza negates a two state solution. They go on and on in never never land.
You constantly avoid interviewing guests who present the issues for the Israeli government.
The two state approach is premised on the idea that Jewish and Palestinian subjects have fundamentally different identities and cannot be governed by the same system. Yet individuals cannot alter these identities any more than people can change their race. As such, it is the same as an apartheid system, and, barring total ethnic cleansing, it is irreconcilable with democracy. The only avenue to peace and prosperity is to dissociate issues of governance from those of race.
My wife and I just returned from Israel and Palestine where have worked for more than 20 years with schools, clinics and agricultural programs.
In Palestinian communities within northern Israel we witnessed the full brunt of apartheid in effect against 20% of Israel’s citizens. In Jerusalem we sat with longtime friends who may soon be driven from their homes of many generations. In Bethlehem and other West Bank communities, we saw and documented evidence of massive settlement construction which has occurred in the months since Netanyahu’s stated “freeze", as Israel has re-defined "East Jerusalem" to include huge swath of land to the south and west as well.
Hillsides and valleys of olive groves and vineyards terraced over hundreds of years are now buried under rubble, remaining farmland soaked in raw sewage. This time my wife and I experienced unprecedented harassment by the Israeli military for simply visiting friends and colleagues in Bethlehem, which now is imprisoned behind 30 ft walls and razor wire–87% of it’s historic land confiscated!.
More Palestinians have been evicted from their homes in East Jerusalem this past year than in the TOTAL of all the years since 1967—their homes and gardens taken over by radical Jewish settlers, with NO compensation whatsoever. Israeli flags fly from confiscated homes in the Christian and Muslim quarters of the Old City, in Silwan valley, in Sheikh Jarrah, and atop the Mount of Olives. These ideological "settlers" include many are US citizens, harassing Palestinian children with full protection from the IDF.
Netanyahu determined to disrupt every facet of Palestinian life and survival, let alone a Palestinian state. He brazenly boasts that Israel owns the U.S. Congress, which he counts upon to protect his lies.
Yes, our government must apply pressure which should include cutting direct aid to Israel, and closing tax loopholes for organizations in the US which fund radical Jewish settlers.
why are the US keep supporting Israel in all its position? Almost everyone in the world agrees that in order to bring peace in the Middle East, the US need to take an aggressive action towards Israel. the government of Israel knows that it is a political suicide for any US politian to take any kinds of action to stop the settlement expantion. Most of the war in the middle east is not against the US, but the continual support to Israel's actions towards the Palistaine. The US government needs to hold the Israel government accountable for the action they continue to make. China is becoming the world power, and soon enough Israel will find itself in a bad position as more muslim countries are signing deals with China.
Palistine is Israel. In their ancient history both of the kingdoms lived in a two kingdom land. this can be done with research of ancient Palistine and the fairness of man is the only thing that will bring this together. they have and can again with proper research find the border line for these two great nations
Even the Palestinian on the show did not use the term East Jerusalem and Christian should know better. Ramat Shlomo can be said to be in North Jerusalem or West Jerusalem, but never East. What we are talking about is the cease war lines of 1949, which we call today the 1967 line (of before the 1967 war). Does anybody really think that those line will ever be the legal border?? is the old city of Jerusalem including the Western Wall will ever again be not under Israeli land? So stop beating around the bush; The UN vision (from 1947) of an International City did not work and will never work, yet Israel agreed to the terms, the 20+ Arab nations were the ones who did not accept the terms, if they did there would have been a 62 years old Palestinian state today. There could be a 2 state solution tomorrow if it was not for the insistence of going back to the 1967 borders. What is so important about the 1967 border? nobody recognized it ever?
European news show a map of the the Palestinian West Bank and East Jerusalem what you see looks like a Swiss Cheese, how can that ever lead to peace? It would be great if you show that map to the US viewers, they might understand why the Palestinian have no chance to ever get their own state. It appears Israel is sacrosanct
to international law and criticism.
Jerusalem is the historic and defacto capital of the Jewish Nation and is revered as such by Christianity and Islam. That there were and are large populations of Muslims and Christians in Jerusalem that is desired and protected by Israeli law does not provide the basis of a Palestinian claim. The Holliest site in Islam is Mecca and Medina and it is absurd to consider sovereignty of those holliest bases of Islam to be ceded to any outsider as would be the case for the Vatican. Several peace proposals for a two state solution that have included Israeli concessions to cede large arab populations in the metro Jerusalem area have been rejected by Palestinian leadership. There is absolutely NO acceptance within any segment of Israeli society of any return to the pre 67 border in the area of Jerusalem. That Isreal has offered to return 99% of the pre 67 green line in exchange for a peaceful agreement to establish an independent Palestinian state is proof of Israel's willingness to accept serious sacrifice and compromise in exchange for peace even at the risk of considerable military risk from continuing terrorist efforts of Iran, Syria, via Hisbullah, Hamas, et.al. to destroy and continue to threaten Israeli existence. What are the Palestinian Leaders willing to risk in exchange for an independent Palestinian state and Peace, what compromises, and where is there any proof of their sincerity towards that end?
I have watched this Israeli charade for over 30 years now, "the road to peace-LOL" and all I can say is what a bunch of BS. Does it matter if they start building today or in two years they should be told "no building at all" It is high time the USA put the pressure on and told them to get out of all settlements and not getting out of 3 and at the same times building 7 others as has been the norm.
They should be told STOP!! or
1-no more free dollars for them from US taxpayer
2-no more letting US taxpayers take off their tax bill donations to Israel
3-get rid of the lobbyists on the hill ,especially AIPAC
4-UN SANCTIONS
implement this and there will be positive action.
Mainstream commentators are missing the important realities about Israel and Palestine.
Read the book of Joshua, and it tells you that 3000 years ago, the Jews came out of Egypt, killed an entire population of original inhabitants in the land of Canaan - innocent men, women and children who lived in Jericho and in the other cities of Canaan. The Jews burned the cities to the ground and stole their land. The Jews claimed that their god had given them the land and ordered them to slaughter innocents to take it. That may have been the world's first recorded religious war by one people against an innocent population.
In 1948, the Jews did it again - they killed thousands of innocent Palestinians whose families had lived there for centures. Again, the Jews took their land by force, once again claiming that the land was Jewish land by divine decree. Again, the Jews perpetrated another holy war against an innocent population.
The Israelis have been conducting their holy war against the Palestinians ever since, to keep the Palestinians from re-occupying the Palestinians' ancestral lands.
Now, the United States complains that the Israelis are building in East Jerusalem. We complain that the Jews are not negotiating in good faith. But we continue to give Israel millions of dollars, and over the years, we have given them billions of dollars in economic and military aid, to enable them kill more Palestinians. And we complain even more that the Palestinians are mostly to blame for the lack of peace talks. The Israelis have beaten the Palestinians down, they have taken the Palestinians land, they have imprisoned Palestinians in Gaza, and we continue to blame the victims and support the people who stole the Palestinian land, even though the Palestinians have nothing more to give.
Does any of this make any moral sense to anyone?
Our country will be on the wrong side of history if we try to divide Jerusalem and take the heart of the Holy City from the Jewish state.
G-D FORBID! (And I mean that literally!) Israel is the eternal capital of Israel, and that is its historic destiny.
This supposed "issue" is nothing but a trumped up red herring to pressure Israel. The supposed "settlement" in East Jerusalem is in fact north Jerusalem and is in a valley that doesn't displace any Arabs. it is a continuation of an Orthodox neighborhood that is growing. This land has always been in any negotiation part of Israel. It is a non issue.
Since Obama has become President he has asked nothing of the Palestinians. At the same time that Obama and friends were screaming about this Jewish community adding apartments Abbas Government supported the naming of a square in Ramallah after a female suicide bomber. This suicide bomber killed women and children. The Palestinians need to stop the incitement. Real peace when both sides want it. the Palestinians have not shown any , any good faith whatsoever. Israel has and in return they have received terrorist attacks, missiles fired at civilians and town squares named after evil killers of innocent women and children ( on purpose)
Arrogant Israel has no right, none what so ever to continue to build on stolen Palestinian land. By now, it should be clear to most Americans that Israel is not interested in cooperating with the US to forge a lasting peace in the region.
It is time to stop giving Israel special treatment, and 5 BILLION dollars annually.
By reading some of the comments, one can easily understand that the objective of ALL Muslims and MANY Christians is the destruction of the Jewish state. They are trying quite hard but they will not succeed.
The old trick of turning the truth on its head by claiming that Jews are apartheid promoters, Nazis, etc. and etc., in order to please the many Jew haters that are always present, will fail just as the many and tired anti-Semitic rants convince no one any longer. Very few comments show any kind of knowledge regarding the "history" of the so-called "Palestinians", in fact Arabs that illegally moved to Cis-Jordan between WW1 and WW2 – courtesy of the British Mandate.
Most of the bile-spitting "commentators" are seldom interested in truth. For example, they never mention that during WW2 most Arabs were sympathetic to and allied with the Nazis against the Allies: the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem was pictured shaking hands and conferencing with Adolf Hitler in Berlin, where he had his European office duly set up and running.
What the Jew haters desperately want is to be able to promote another pogrom, like those that Europe and many Islamic countries are notorious for. This time around I am sure they will all be quite disappointed: Israel will continue to grow at a spectacular rate while Arabs living in Gaza and the West bank will continue to depend on charity and handouts for food, clothing and pocket money – provided by Christian nations.
As most everyone knows, the two state solution is dead and buried. The alternative will be either a three-state or a one-state solution. The first = Israel + Hamas + Fatah; the second = Israel alone with no Arabs around, having all been relocated to either Trans-Jordan or Saudi Arabia.
Finally, Mrs. Amanpour is unfortunately pro Muslims and this shows in each and every single program that she hosts, most of them sponsored by Arab interests – something she never tried to hide, to her credit.

P.S. It is important that "CNN Comment Policy" avoids the example of BBC – that mistakes moderation for censorship.
go to srilanka and find out how differant community live together and peacefull after the war.
Let us NOT distort the facts that
the real Jews are descendents of the Great : Abraham (via Sarah) and the same Abraham is also the Father of all Arabs (via Hagar). Abraham was born in the city of UR in Babylonia(Today's IRAQ). Abraham is Middle-Easten and has the feature typical of any Middle-Eastern that you find them in Iraq/Saudi Arabia/Palestine/etc....
A DNA test would prove this!
The Zionist Jews who are NOT Middle-Eastern are CONVERTS from other places (Europe/Russia/etc..) and they converted for Financial gains to work in Banking and practice usury!
But the biggest gain in the history of mankind is when those converts claim the Land of Palestine. It is ONE thing to rob a Bank which is a ONE-TIME affair...But to claim that the same Bank is located on a land that was promised to the jews (by GOD) is in effect a PERPETUAL BANK ROBBERY!
