I sat next to a Catholic Priest on a flight from Kano to Abuja, Nigeria not long ago. He was moving out of the northern part of the country because it was no longer safe for Christians to live there thanks to militant, Muslim extremists. So while the Catholic Church may be growing in other parts of the country like the port city of Lagos, it is being persecuted elsewhere, and the Nigerian govt has too many distractions to do anything about it.
Nigerian churches are growing but also facing persecution. That is exactly what we should expect when we start living according to the message of Jesus Christ. We, as Christians, should be ready to face persecution-if that is what it takes to spread the gospel. That is exactly what Christians are facing in Nigeria. The continous persecution on the pope won't gain any result. People should be focused on christ and pray for the church and the pope. Christ forgave us we must forgive all abusers. Nigerian catholics shall remain firm in their believe.
...please don't use condoms because we need to increase the earth's population ~ otherwise we might all perish from global warming instead of over population!!! ...or how about AIDS???...it's time to use rational tho't and global concerns...instead of ??? I don't know what to call it.
My youth Service was in Gombe state not long ago, i was lucky to experience and learn what true muslims are. They are poor physically and mentally, they hardly embrace education and will always say no to new ideas. You are not their true friend unless you are a muslim. The truth is that they are problem all over the world and they are problem here in Nigeria; the only way to help them is to help them break out of their poor shell and show them what it takes to leave in the modern world.
I find it so amazing at the recent attacks on the catholic church, it goes beyound the expressed sentiments to physical abuse, which i find very barabaric.
Why the attack on the church, what has the church done to deserve this publicity.i chose the word pubilicity because at the end of it the church would only get stronger and substanstial apostulate would have been carried out for the church by its "alleged"detractors.
The catholic church is an institution that has exixted for over
2,000 years. it is a church that comprises both sinners and saints, it has never claimed that it is all perfect, infact it realises its sinfulness more than any form of rightiousness it can claim, that is why it is solely dependant on God for its sustainance and Holiness.
The catholic church anchors its strengh in God. Who is the head of the church And though the various intercession of Our dear Mother Mary, the mother of God, And all the saints in heaven, our prayers are anwered.
This surely reminds one of what the apostles went through, during the persecution of the church after the death of christ, one also should be reminded of what Gamalien said, let us not us seen fighting or preventing the work of God.
We catholics are encouraged to pray for our dear church and also the Holy Father, Pope Benedict V1. we are not to be discouraged, but take delight in the fact that the God we serve would turn this into good, that would be for the benefit of mankind and the glory of God.
