The EU has to dump Greece. It is an albatross around the neck of the Union. The other countries could have a comeback, but the Greeks will not (at least for the the next 50 years) want to pay taxes and they will continue to mooch off Germany and France. They don't deserve membership in the Union. They lied in their financial reports for admission.

Greece is the outcome of flawed EU policies. The rich nations were too quick and enthusiastic to admit so many member countries in the region. It was all well-intentioned, but poorly considered. Greece isn't the only albatross. Many of the latest additions to the EU will become a liability. In fact what we are seeing in the EU is really just evidence that our current global economic theories, models and practices aren't all they are cracked up to be and we need to become and act a lot smarter if we want to have a worthwhile future for humanity. America, too, has to do some serious naval gazing and not be too critical of the EU to deflect attention from their own shortcomings. The lack of intelligent ideas and courage to act has been a problem on both sides of the Atlantic since the start of the GFC. Perhaps our leaders and economists are not as educated and capable as they'd like us to believe.

such a beautiful place. It seems they should be able to attract tourism with their scenery, climate, food and music; not to mention the historical sites. I think a lot of people would be willing to go and spend their shrinking dollars in Greece.

Being european myself, I think the whole idea of a European Union is phantastic and has lots of advantages. In theory. But the European Union is a strange one. It has one goal only – the profit in a growing economy. It pretends, though, it cares for its people, wants to empower the weaker nations under one roof. What is the result of this great big family? The liars are begging for money now. My advice is to declare the fall of this house and rebuild it under different conditions.
