It might have taken a full magazine to do it. BUT ONE ROUND FROM AN AR-15 LIKE HE WAS USING WOULD HAVE STOPPED HIM COLD. Lastly, think about this: You cannot arms slaves and expect them to remain slaves. Nor can you disarm a free people and expect them to remain free. We remain free today because we are armed, yes, with military-pattern rifles. You will never disarm our free people. Period. Get used to it.

I buy ammo in lots like that so that the primers and power are from the same batch. I am a target shooter. With a pistol, I group 10 shots in a 3" circle at 65 feet. Its not easy and its taken practice. Variations in the load change the way the bullet flies and lands.
I am a 55 year old woman, a programmer and electrical engineer. As you can tell, no dummy.Mostof thepeope I shoot with are actually intelligent, capable and good Americans. It is a social event requiring science, technology and skills.

More people are killed in car accidents and this is thought of as outweighed by the convenience of fast and cheap travel. Though these killings are sad (as are car accidents), an armed populace is a required deterrent against tyranny (which is by far worse). History has shown us time and time again that Government cannot be trusted to hold all the trumps. The right to own firearms is something that must be protected at all cost.

That's called the fallacy of The Perfect Solution. They are constantly looking for ways to improve the safety of cars and one of those ways will be to make it so cars drive themselves. So, as with cars, the best way to deal with gun deaths may be to remove the driver.

If the theatre goers had been armed, what are the chances that less people would have been killed? Look at the two hoodlums that tried to hold up a cyber cafe in Florida. And an armed 71 year old ran them off with his gun. The cities with the tightest level of gun control are the cities with the highest crime. Arm the citizenry and there would be less crime since those prone to criminal activity would think twice before preying on innocence!!
Yes of course, a dark cinema full of guns would have made the situation a lot better. Fact of the matter is that the US has the highest gun per capita ratio in the world (2007: 88 per 100 capita), 270,000,000 guns to be exact. Don't tell me that more guns would decrease the likelihood of gun related violence in the future, there is of course a correlation between the amount of guns and gun related violence.
Fact is..The Voice......that violent crimes, including those involving guns has gone down relative to the increase in population. Imagine that...a fact that most anti gun people choose to ignore.

TheVoice: you're correct, there is a relationship between the number of guns and violence in America. In the last 20 years, the number of civilian-owned guns has increased from 200 million to 300 million, while the murder and violent crime rate has declined by half. The number of citizens licensed to lawfully carry concealed guns has increased to nearly 8 million, from what was likely only a million or so 20 years ago. I know this may puncture your bubble, but guns in the hands of law abiding citizens are a GOOD THING for individuals, their families and society at large.

I can not for one second believe that a person who has traveled the world to include Africa and the Middle East believe that the US has a Gun Ownership problem. I do not own nor do I want a gun but some on use proper statistics. We are the largest free society of course we own more because oppressive nations won't allow them and if you added up equal square miles in NE Africa I am sure they would rival the US easily.
I have been in the Military for 18 years and in that time I will tell you that Humans want weapons nothing more than that.

Comparing deaths by car accidents to deaths by guns is silly: nearly everyone drives every day, often several times a day. Everyone does not own, or fire guns everyday, much less several times a day. The presence of a gun in a household INCREASES insurance both home insurance and car insurance. I guess big business figured out that guns don't make you safer, but we the people are delusional. Interesting.
As for protection against Govt Tyranny? Remind me when these gun controlled countries last behaved in a tyranical manner towards their own people: Canada, UK, Sweden, France? The largest free country in the world: gun controlled India, had a period of around a year during which the Federal Govt toook over power: that Government was elected out of power non-violently. On the other hand, guns are widespread across Africa, Afghanistan and the Middle East: where the Governments routinely abuse their people. You think we should pour more guns into those hellholes?

Well... I must say that watching this video and reading your comments has given me a feeling that USA is some exotic country, not that much civilised as someone would expect. I live in Europe and I want to provide you with two facts:
1) I have never heard a sound of a gunshot in public area (I have only seen a real gun carried by a policeman/security in public area).
2) Even walking through the most dangerous parts of the cities I am not afraid of being pointed with a gun.
I don't want to carry a gun myself, because I know that using it requires certain level of skill and being sober (yes, I like to have few drinks from time to time). Americans, answer yourselves, would you like to have the comfort I feel?
It is not just the American love of guns that people in other countries do not understand. Shows like Jersey Shore, Hoggers,etc. do little to make people think there is intelligence out there. I think what disturbs me are the comments people make after a story.(doesn't matter what the story is about). A baby in a movie theatre......BAD MOM......TAKE THE CHILD AWAY OR KILL THE MOM. or blame Obama.Most comments are judgemental and hate filled. People cannot seem to comment in a thoughtful informed way anymore. Fighting a war in Irac all those years and they still cannot pronounce the name of the country they are fighting in. I am sure the founding fathers had assault guns and weaponry like we have today when they wrote the second ammendment. Americans are such a generous people and the country has sooooo much good in it but that blind love of guns and the rage that the citizens express will only bring more violence.If the people of Europe and other nations question or comment they are put down and their comments are not even considered to have any merit. This furthers the belief that ignorance is alive and well.(read the comments posted about Amanpour) The killings in Canada are few compared to the States and the guns used are smuggled into the country fom the states for pot or cash.
Based on the logic of the gun lobby, each american should own a nuclear weapon, because nuclear weapons don't kill people, people kill people. What criminal is going to break into my home if he nows I'll blow him and the entire city up? What government is going to do me wrong if it knows I'v got the bomb? And with all those nuclear materials floating around the world it could be that my neighbour already has the bomb so I need to protect myself from him. I think that it is ever american's duty to have at least one nuclear bomb to protect himself and his family. And we don't need to worry about bad guys getting the bomb because all the government needs to do is make it illegal for bad guys to own a bomb. Finally americans will feel safe in their homes knowing that every criminal act will be responded to with mutually assured destruction.
As a non-American citizen but an Australian one, it seems the folks in the USA appear oblivious to how absurd it sounds that the only way to curb mass slaughter of your fellow countryman is to arm MORE people. Huh? That's like handing casino chips to gambling addicts or inviting your local pedophile to a school recital. The media needs viewers to sell advertising, so they constantly hype up the most sensational stories they can find. Violent movies and games are pretty well understood as fiction or history, but the news has a different effect on people. Our perception of the world is colored by the news, causing increased stress and paranoia – it's no wonder that occasionally someone snaps. I know there are many people going through tough times today, but our fathers went through even tougher times. I don't know if there are more bad guys or guns per capita than when I was a kid, but daily life seems pretty normal – nice, actually (if I don't watch too much news).
