Kids Pick the President

October 23rd, 2012
11:15 AM ET

Barack Obama wins the U.S. presidential election … or rather, he would, if America’s children were the voters.

“According to the children of America, President Barack Obama will be around for another four years,” said Linda Ellerbee, who for more than 20 years has asked viewers of her “Nick News” program to weigh in on the presidential election.

Obama, said Ellerbee, got 65% of the vote, to Romney’s 35%. The children in Ellerbee’s informal poll have correctly predicted the winner in five of the past six presidential elections.

As part of the election coverage on “Nick News,” President Obama answered children’s questions. Governor Mitt Romney did not participate – only the second candidate not to answer questions in the segment’s history.

“We take to the candidates a few very kidlike questions, like have you ever had your heart broken, or how do you always know the difference between right or wrong?,” Ellerbee said. “Sometimes they'll ask a question that gets you - you sort of get a little glimpse of the human being beneath the ‘Teflon’ facade of the candidate.”

CNN’s Ken Olshansky produced this piece for television.

Sorry, the audio isn't working for any of the clips of the kids or President Obama. How annoying!

yep, because I know when I was a kid i watched the news, paid attention to foreign affairs topics, U.S economy, jobs statistics, energy policy, and national debt. Do you know why kids would elect obama? because that's who their teachers would most likely vote for because of the teachers unions and the local governments getting federal money dumped in their laps to hire more teachers instead of responsibly cutting back and letting go the crappy teachers that drain the states and counties of money. My former landlord has been a typing teacher for 40 years, makes over 75k a year and will retire with a pension, benefits and will cash out over 100 untaken sick days...and she had the nerve to complain about paying 1.5% of her salary to cover her medical expenses, like it was some grave injustice....wake up teachers, welcome to real life!!

Gee, Adam, you seem to know a lot about your landlord and former typing teacher. Your landlord worked for the pension he/she receives. Negotiated, through the union for the benefits. Maybe if you would get off your duff and organize you could negotiate a pension and benefits? Quit assuming that your landord has all those things, ask why you do not. Then look in the mirror and see where the answer lies. Oh and kids usually get their voting experience from their parents, not their teachers.

Not so. The kids will parrot what they hear from their parents. That is why this has been so reliable in the past. I remember voting in mock elections when I was in grade school, do you think I knew anything about the economy, what was going on elsewhere in the world, or the price of gas? No, but I knew who my parents talked about voting for, and that's who I voted for!

Lady you need to get your act together. Either fire your technicians or just stop making programs. When you played the clips from the children and other clips there was no sound. Smarten up.

The term cliché is the best way to describe every character, when one convenient character suddenly announced she is a veterinarian you have to stifle back snickering.
