Hamas leader tells Amanpour his group wasn’t behind bombing

(CNN) - The political leader of Hamas says his group was not behind Wednesday's bus bombing in Tel Aviv. But Khaled Meshaal did say he believed the bombing was a response to the violence in Gaza.
A cease-fire, announced Wednesday night in a joint news conference in Cairo, Egypt, by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr, took effect at 9 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET).
In an exclusive interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Cairo, Meshaal - whose group is considered a terrorist group by Israel and the United States - spoke about the bus attack, which injured more than 20 people, and he detailed Hamas' mindset on the situation overall.
Here are excerpts from the interview:
Amanpour: There has been a terrible attack inside Israel today, in Tel Aviv. The first of these kinds of attacks in six years. A bomb on a bus, and there have been many casualties. Does Hamas claim responsibility? Did Hamas do that?
Meshaal: This question must be addressed to (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu.
Amanpour: No, no, I'm asking you. Did Hamas claim responsibility? Did Hamas do that?
Meshaal: Not Hamas, not others, not other people from, not Hamas. No one can announce except those who committed, not me. The lesson is what matters. What led to this? Who created the circumstances that led to this operation? It is Netanyahu with his crimes, in killing the kids of Gaza, and the continuity of aggression. He create(d) such ramifications everywhere. This could lead to any kind of reaction as retaliation for what happened in Gaza.
In the spirited interview, with Meshaal often raising his voice passionately, Amanpour asked Meshaal about whether he would accept a two-state solution that envisages the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside the state of Israel.
"And yet you say that you would accept a two-state solution but you won't recognize Israel's right to exist," Amanpour said.
Meshaal repeatedly said that the "Palestinians are offering peace" and blamed the United States and Israel for working toward situations that are not peaceful.
"How can I accept Israel? They have occupied my land," Meshaal said.
Amanpour asked him directly if Hamas is getting weapons from Iran.
Hamas is a "resistance" against "occupation," he said and it seeks financial, military and other forms of support from Iran from any state that wishes to support Hamas.
The group gets helps from Europe and from Iran, wherever it can get it, he said.
"So the answer is yes," to whether Iran helps Hamas, Amanpour challenged.
"I answered you," Meshaal replied.
Amanpour asked him to explain Hamas' end game.
"The end game is to end occupation," he said, and "peace throughout the region."

@Catori, if you have read much about history, you would know that there is pretty compelling evidence to show that the Native American heritage you claim a descendent from, actually came across the Bering Strait and the frozen ice sections of Alaska from upper Siberia in the east roughly 6000-5000 B.C. and did the exact same thing that western European's did to Native American's. Just because one event happened in recorded history, and another didn't, doesn't make either case less important.

It disgust me to see Israel after imprisoning the Palestinians in the "territories" lobbing shells and bombing them. Is this any different from when the US Calvary would set up their artillery and shoot into Indian villages? We now think that the US was wrong in doing that so why would we tolerate the Israelis doing it? I saw a poll in which 57% of Americans support Israel in this. I guess I'm in the 43 % that doesn't. What Israel is doing is wrong and I want to see Israel have to suffer for this latest transgression.

Both the Inidian wars and Palestine wars are about land and the removal of one group from the land so another group can settle on the land. If I'm not mistaken Israel and Gaza were at peace for a while now,then the shelling started, now Israel is defending themselves and you can't argue that Israel has the upper hand because you have a group that's considered to be a terrorist group that hides between it's civilian people in which they pay the ultimate price then blame Israel as the agressors. Occupying? Mr. Meshaal, please show us the Israeli troops in Gaza who are occupying the residents. If you can't prove it, we won't believe you. Closing highway access and sea blockades are NOT occupation. If Israel was occupying Gaza, they'd have been right there to apprehend the rocket launching fanatics. They didn't, because they are NOT occupying Gaza. I guess many have FORGOTTEN that Israel kicked many of its own citizens off their settlements in order to GIVE the land to the Gazan people, for them to run with complete autonomy. They used that autonomy to elect a terrorist administration, and to lob rockets incessantly at the people who GAVE it to them. It's hard not to realize, in hindsight, what a BIG mistake that was.

Amanpour inerview again did not get the straight answers from the Hamas leader. Again and again there not willing to give a concrete answer and if he thinks that Israel is going to up all the land that their claiming not to mention Jerusalem as their capital there crazy. Hamas has to stop the shelling and Israel will stop bombing. I mean this is common sense, why would you start a war knowing that the odds are 100 to 1. I see this as a political war so Hamas can continue recieving not only arms but also money lots of money from Iran and other countries that support there cause and and what cost you may ask ?, inoccent lives on both sides.

Much of the land that Israel sits on was sold by Arabs and Turks to Jewish Farmers. They thought that the Jews were idiots for buying useless land. But the Jews proved them wrong. There were Arab Villages expelled as there were Jewish villages as well in 1948. People don't realize that 1948 was a civil war. One side lost. I give Israel credit, most countries that win land in a war don;t give it back. I don't know of any others that have.

Look at it this way: Israel is the home of many holy places. Muslims have destroyed Bahai holy places, Buddhist holy places, and Christian/Jewish holy places. As guardians of this land for the world, the Israelis are obviously the only choice. If muslims are going to stay intolerant, they justly shouldn't be tolerated. Blowing up the Buddhist sculptures in Afganistan and desecrating Bahai holy places in Iran have sealed the Muslim destiny. They will never have dominion over these holy lands and that is their own doing.
