Bangladesh's prime minister acknowledged Thursday that her nation's garment industry is beset with problems, but said her government was moving rapidly to fix them.
"Bangladesh now is a place for good conditions for the investment," Sheikh Hasina told CNN's Christiane Amanpour eight days after a nine-story building collapsed on the outskirts of Dhaka, killing at least 437 people, most of them garment workers. She said 2,437 survivors were pulled from the rubble, where recovery work was continuing.
"Yes, there are some problems," she said, but added that a committee has been formed to ensure the safety of buildings and workers.
"This committee will submit the findings to the Cabinet committee and, side by side, we have been trying our best to improve the situation."
Asked about reports that only 18 inspectors are responsible for overseeing safety conditions in more than 100,000 garment factories in and around the capital city, she said, "We don't depend on only ... those inspectors."
Steps to improve conditions were taken before the collapse of the building in Rana Plaza in Savar, she said, citing passage by the Cabinet of a labor law that will be sent to Parliament.
Hasina noted that workplace disasters have occurred in the United States, too; she cited last month's explosion of a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, in which 14 people died.
"Anywhere in the world, any accident can take place," she said. "You cannot predict anything."
Amanpour pointed out that local officials predicted that the building could collapse after cracks appeared on its walls on April 23, and they urged workers not to re-enter it.
"You are very correct," Hasina said. "Unfortunately, in the morning, the owners of the factories put pressure to labor to enter."
She praised government officials for having tried to prevent the workers from the five garment factories in the building from re-entering it on April 24, the morning of the collapse. "It is not true that the government hasn't taken any steps," she said.
She blamed the owners of the five factories as well as Sohel Rana, the building's owner, and disputed the suggestion that their political connections could protect them.
Rana is under police investigation in relation to the deaths and has had his assets seized. Protesters have called for him to be hanged.
"The law will take its own course," she said. "Criminal is criminal. They will get all the necessary action; that we can assure you. It is our promise to the people."
Hasina added, "Any business person, if they commit any kind of crime, our government always takes action."
She pointed to the companies that source their products from such factories, saying they should pay well enough that factory owners can pay good salaries and ensure the business is safely run. "They're partly responsible for it," she said.
And she urged that the disaster be considered in context. "You cannot blame the whole business or whole industry just for one incident," she said.
Hasina said officials in her government "are in favor of labor," having increased the minimum wage by 82%, built dormitories and seen to the health care needs of workers.
But the collapse of the building is only the latest in a string of fatal incidents that have beset the industry in recent years. A fire five months ago at a garment maker in another suburb of Dhaka killed at least 112 people.
Hasina expressed little fear that international companies would stop doing business in Bangladesh as a result of the disaster. Investors have tapped into the Bangladeshi market not just because of its high-quality workers, she said. "They get cheap labor," she said. "That's why they come here."
Hasina denied that the killing last year of a labor leader signified that her government was hostile toward unions. Aminul Islam's body, bearing signs of torture, was found four days after he disappeared in April 2012.
"Nobody knew that he was a labor leader," she said. It was only after his body was found, she said, "that we came to know that he was a labor leader and he was assassinated."
More than a year later, she said, the case remains under investigation.
The interview was carried out via satellite by Amanpour in New York and the prime minister in Dhaka. CNN has been unable to gain visas from the Bangladeshi government that would allow the network to send reporters to cover the country first-hand.
But the prime minister disputed that assertion, which was corroborated by a CNN executive. "It is not true," Hasina said. "We never stop any media to come to Bangladesh."
Asked about restrictions on coverage imposed by the visa office, she said, "Every country has these rules and regulations."
Thursday's interview came as activity resumed at thousands of Bangladeshi textile factories.
Millions of workers in and around the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka returned to duty after the trade group that represents the garment industry decided it was safe to do so.
This week, a delegation of the International Labour Organization arrived in Dhaka on a four-day visit to Bangladesh.
"Horror and regret must translate into urgent firm action," said Guy Ryder, the organization's director-general. "Action now can prevent further tragedy. Inaction would mean that the next tragedy is simply a matter of time."
The incident has provoked widespread protests, including attacks on some textile facilities the demonstrators said were unsafe.
The garment industry accounts for 77% of Bangladesh's exports - a $20 billion industry for the nation.
Tonight's interview with the Prime Minister was great. Christiane Amanpour did a wonderful job of pinning her ears back.
Bangladesh needs a new prime minister and most of the country's political leaders should be thrown out.
You are right Elena. Actually Bangladesh as a developing country has tremendous probabilities to develop if the level of political and government persons corruption can remove and it that respect I would say there is a need of huge change in the governance right now.
The building was built in 2009 and started 2010. It was published in newspaper which is instructed by her. We are unlucky that we have got a liar prime minister who thinks "this is politics"
Its not all about present administration or last administration, Government cant do anything unless citizen help, You want BNP cause you have good connection with them, some want Hasina administration casue they have good connection but what about us who dont have this. none of you never paid tex or do anything good for country, after the incident happened did any of you help any victim ? no you haven't all you guys just talk and talk. we don't need change in Government we are the one who need to change. changing Government didn't work last 30 year then how it will work now? so we have to make change, we are the one who is corrupted. 95% people in this country involve with corruption. so change your self first....... country will change by it self....
Robin......i am totally agree with u.its not about government, its about us.we have to change first.
An unfortunate and negative observation about Bangladesh, Robin. Literacy rate among the adult population in Bangladesh is around 35%. More than half of them, mostly male, are corrupt and the rest of the country's population is victim of systemic corruption. Only a few of the illiterate people and women have any ability to practice corruption unless they are forced by the literate or so-called educated people there. In reality, the law and policy makers, and enforcers and protectors of laws, administration and judiciary are the roots of all corruption in Bangladesh.
I strongly disagree. The government has to change in order for the people to change (changes such as lifestyle, being able to afford education which can benefit Bangladesh). The people cannot change unless the government does not change because unfortunately, today the economy is like a big bad monster that controls us and we cannot control it. Look at Greece for example: the Greeks were known for being friendly, generous, caring etc. When the government and the economy was fine. But today people have changed because the government and the economy has changed. Some Greeks have started to become violent against foreigners (The Golden Dawn political party) and their population is increasing. So it is the government that controls us, and the only thing Bangladesh can do right now is go against this government.
so what you do when almost 75% are not having enough education to decide what is good for them which turns out to be good for the country. don't blame 95 % for corruption its simply lie as sheikh hasina. did you ever lit a candle for others if not shut up.
@helal- How can the people know what is good for them if they can't afford education? That is why the government has to change and encourage and promote education. That is how people change, that is why the government has to change. Don't tell me to shut up I am going to express my opinion. I believe in freedom of speech 🙂
listen, our country is corruption filled, and every word that woman said is a lie,and anyone can see that the way she was stammering her every words, thats cuz she didnt plan for such things, and also, reporters coming to BD,the prime minister must know abt it,,,and she denied them,,and now she's lying again, she declined new's media's information..this is nothing new to anyone, might as well leave BD cuz its one country which cannot be cured of corruption.
Robin, you r absolutely wrong. Obviously the govt needs to change first. It is the govt who controls the people thus the country. Just giving u an example: I passed my 25 years of life in Bangladesh and now I've come to Australia to study my master. When i was in Dhaka, from the inside of my car if i needed to dispose any tissue paper or something i used to throw that out from my car window. But in Australia whenever i m into a car and i have an used tissue of mine in my hand, I never throw it from the window. I keep it with me until i see any garbage bin and thus this country remains neat n clean. See, this is not my own country. I am just an international student here. Then why I bother to throw my tissue paper in a bin rather than throwing it from the window! This is called rules and regulations which is made and controlled by the govt. In every sector of a country govt should play the most vital role. Otherwise a country never can change!
very well put
I agree with Robin, most of us are corrupted in that sense that we are those who usually choose those politicians for giving vote in election to whom we start to criticize them for their incapability when these politicians sit in Govt. chair. My question is why we choose them without gathering enough information about them and got stuck in thinking about their sweet talking and sweet promises given by those politicians before election?
Of course we should all improve as citizens. But we need leadership, coordination and strategies. Thats what we have democracy for – elected officers taking action on our behalf. We need good politcal leaders because politicians are blocking our progress. The first step in taking personal action to improve the country is to demand reform of our politics. We take personal responsibility by starting with – WE DEMAND POLITICAL REFORM.
I agreed with you. First we should change ourselves then the country will change.
Dear Elena,
We are very sorry for that our government did not give you visa to enter you in our country. Actually they hide lot of dead body in dark night. If you came here then they can not do that. right now 1500 people is missing. We do not know where are they now.
//pahlabi
pahlabi, did you see government is hiding dead bodies? Do you know there are at least 5000 people (10000 eyes) observing the situation in Savar for 24 hours. Are you just strengthening our honorable opposition leader's voice by saying this? See, its impossible at the present situation to hide a single dead body from the spot. Stop talking like this. Dont bring your political view everywhere.
How are you so sure about the number? You are telling lies for a purpose I think. The total number is being initiated by the law enforcing agencies and above all the Bangladesh Army. They are claiming that the number of the missing people is not more than 125. Now, you are not one the teams who were helping in rescuing the people. Several hundreds of civilians were at help of the agencies in rescuing. The whole place is surrounded with cameras. Total dead bodies are about 450. So, why are you telling lies, should be a great concern to Bangladesh Authority. Why are you trying to manipulate the foreign news agency's view? Why are you trying to ruin the reputation (well, I ain't claiming that we have a lot of that) of the country? For God's sake, do not represent your country like that without having proper information.....
@Pahlobi do you have the list of missing people...?
According to the police of Bangladesh, the number of missing workers is 1178 and the Bangladesh Army says, it is 250 odd.
There's a huge gap between these two statements.
BBC was covering so why not CNN? I salute the thousands of "ordinary" persons with great feelings of humanity for rushing to the scene of disaster immediately irrespective of social standing and into the rumbles to retrieve and rescue the thousands buried inside the building while the Army, the police and the firemen sought to bring order outside where the families of those trapped and missing waited to find their beloved members.
Wanna know the list of missing people? okay just check the list of employed people who was there and see the alive people & died people list, you will get the missing peoples, where are they? are they directly submitted to haven? No, Not at all. it's not in sea that you can say that they are missing with water.
Amanpour is absolute right, Hasina is a liar, on her dictatorship peoples life getting hell, Major opposition leaders on jail, true voice journalists in jail too. She is lady version of movie "The dictator" Sacha Baron.
Someone said number of missing people is 150 as the army informs. What about the number of dead bodies found now? It's 830 today. So, already more than 500 new dead bodies found. Simple math, it is greater that 150. Still you ask me to believe govt?
Elena Davis @ Shouldn't you be polite when you talk about another country's top Government Officials? Why the hell you don't have any respect for others? Who the hell are you to talk about my country's Prime Minister like that? And how dare you to tell my country ministers to be thrown away? Who gave you the authority?
Who is this Elena? Name sounds like she is not a Bangladeshi but I am sure she is using a fake id.
She is expressing her opinion, not everyone have the same views. I agree with her and that PM does not deserve any respect. She is fake. It's just so obvious even in this interview.
If your dearest one gets killed by such incident, you would then feel the pain. May Allah render you such pain soon to feel the pain of those people who lost their dearest ones.
Amanpour is absolute right, Hasina is a liar, on her dictatorship peoples life getting hell, Major opposition leaders on jail, true voice journalists in jail too. She is lady version of movie "The dictator" Sacha Baron.
NUS I believe you are one of BAL's corrupted leader or benefit skimmer, You mommy caught so bad on TV, Skin burning or head swelling? CNN is the worlds most authentic news provider mind it, She can dare any powerful person, What the hell is your PM? Amanpour and world have 100% right to know the truth by any mean, Why your GOV didn't given CNN visa for major investigation.
Hi....NUS & Mr Amin...please Stop attacking each other for value less issue of Politics...Now a days Politics is simply business...We are the people of BD elected both parties as like FOOL again n again. What ever Hasina n Khaleda both are part of a coin. But I hope with in next 5 years ppl of BD will refuse both parties for huge corruption and poor low & order. Now a days what ever we are seeing in development in Bangladesh its by Private Sector..and Garments sector most one of them...I worked for 2 Foreign company in Dhaka till last year and I saw what a huge money they are earning from BD...They open LC from Hongkong and transfer that with very poor Price to Local Buying house and factories and after that the nominated ppl of buyers created huge pressure to Garments owners for shipment.... If factory delay 1 week for shipment then buyer will apply 20% discount which is really unacceptable ...then the pressure will come to innocent and unskilled workers for ONTIME shipment with quality. Today I buy 3 Boxers from H&M by 10Euroes which is Made in BD and I calculated the total cost including Tax until retail customer will be maximum 0.75 – 0.80 Cents but Saling price is 3.33 Euor per Pc...So, who is drinking our Blood and who is helping them? One thing is more important that We should ask CNN to figure out the real fact of this Robbery...Who is the the guilty...Please dont attack each other...& dont give your valued vote to F***king AL / BNP...Good luck BD 🙂
I agree with NUS. I havent come across in any news show this sort of arrogance
, offence while talking to a PM. She has insanely crossed the code of conduct. I guess Hasina was polite & bold enough to uphold the deffence. Amanpour should apologise for her improper behaviour while interviewing. Moreover we certainly in huge grief for such a loss in tragedy, and we are concern to get constructive feedback ,overcome the aftermath , let alone this american aggressiveness !!!
Elena Davis is right. Hasina is famous for being rude. Please demand higher standards from our PM first : )
You are absolutely right Elina.
Elena you are absolutely right and NUS you are a blind idiotic stubborn fool who is working for awami league.
I totally agree! You'll realize that she always talking about how her government is the best blah blah blah. If she really cared about her people then she would do actions to prevent these factories from falling rather than saying we are doing whatever is possible, okay great, then comparing to other countries they have accidents too. Why does she have to compare with other countries to prove that her stupid government is perfect?
sheikh hasina is such a big fat corrupted liar~!!!
Elena Davis – Ditto to your thoughts. Hats off to C.Amanpour for her logical points!
Elena Davis – Ditto to your thoughts. Hats off to C.Amanpour for her logical points!
agree with you 100%.
You ma lady,,deserve a cookie 😀
First of All, The prime Minister shouldn't have approached such a affluential international organisation CNN without doing her homework. This was not an interview more like a trail in a court, it is every time with CNN correspondence, they would do that to any political leader let alone government .
1. My understanding was prime minister did her Phd in London, while Sheik Muzib was assassinated; what happened to her English, I bet an English Major student from Dhaka University could have spoken better than her.
2. Labour Law was passed for the 1st time???? She was a prime minister last time around and she missed such an important legislation where our country relies on 90% of trade on garments industry?? it's 2013 and right after the incident??
3. Accidents Happen? Still it is a good place for investment and buyers are coming???? How could she say that on a international television?? she is trying to defend the incident to bring the investment to the country..instead she should look into Health and Safety and Human rights. Her media approach is not convince anyone.. actions does NOT words.
4. EVEN the Christine is saying that regulation needs to be passed; repeatedly. She thinks he has been arrested and case file as been made???? and now she is going through criminal justice system??
5. In respect to the reply of Walmart and Canada's retention of business; she said our labour is cheap and buyers will do business; and she says the companies should increase pay and protection..she is talking like a citizen not a prime minister, she IS the one to enact it INTO LEGISLATION!!!!!
6. On behalf of the labour, we bargain for the good price??? LEGISLATE!!!! you need to LEGISLATE!!!
7. For CNN, for not entering the country.. that was CNN's strech to interogate with unreasonably, which The government defended, clearly she wouldn't attended an interview if she knew the correspondence was cut restricted into the country.
8. Her exact words " I am doing politics to save my country people" NO you are the government of the country, Politics is NOT a business. We need a change. No BNP, Awamelegae, Jamat, or Military. A proper liberal democratic leader as a bangladesh prime minister who is accountable and not think parliament is a business. No one is better than anyone. It's time for a fresh new change.
And because that will not happen any time soon, the best solution for now is to Unionise Asian countries so there is a mutual standard of legislations and treaties and human rights.
Well said. On point 7 though CNN and the international media would have been restricted on the ground and their reports would have been censored first in cases like these. AL anD BNP governments are hyper sensitive about their image abroad when in government. Hasina thought she was the best person to deal with CNN and her party hacks pampered her ego as usual.
Yes true, but won't happen ...
That prime minister is liar and thinks "that is politics".
She also did not allow local tv channel to broadcast the pre planned accident. At first local channel was broadcasting the news.
Christiane Amanpour did an excellent job. I like the courageous interview and coverage of this internationally reputed journalist. We saw her how she covered the news with guts during the first Iraq-USA war and many more. She is simply the best in terms of courage, integrity, dedication and commitment.
Yes Elena Davis i absolutely agree regarding a rapid change of power in Bangladesh. The thing is we don't have better alternative. We have Khaleda zia or Hasina but we need somebody who is politically sound, patriotic, honest, dedicated and not greedy. All greedy and corrupted MPs and ministers must be taken to the book of law immediately.
Who are you to say it. Are you a citizen of Bangladesh. If you that..come to election to select your desired PM.But never try to interfere to our democracy. We are well enough to understand what need to do on time demand.Mind it.
We don't want Western interference. But we want Western investment, Western aid, Western shelter for the sons of AL and BNP, Western education and Western homes for so many immigrants. Our democracy is a joke. Everybody thinks so. Mind it.
It was during the former government of BNP that Rana Tower was built. Thugs like Sohel Rana always claim to be an activist of whichever government is in power at the time. Khaleda Zia, the chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party is collaborating with Islamic militants to turn Bangladesh into a colony of Saudi Arabia. She must be resisted at all costs. And definitely, Sheikh Hasina needs to polish up her English to avoid being bullied by the western media. Next time, please send Leone Lakhani to cover events in Bangladesh. She has no problem entering or exiting Bangladesh since she is of Bangladeshi descent.
AL embraced Rana. Stop making excuses. AL and BNP are both bad. And resisting Jamaat doesn't mean accepting anything that AL does. Don't forget Hasina and Khaleda both avoid challenging debate. Improved English won't change Hasina's nature. Hasina is a dangerous bully inside Bangladesh – Amanpour is just a great journalist.
One lady saying Bangladesh made by her father, another Lady saying Bangladesh Made by her Husband. and some Taliban Afghan group, with corrupted politician, they are the Gang leader of Bangladesh. Is Bangladesh have no young generations who can throw such both two greedy lady to dustbins? and saved Bangladesh Name to the world. Pls help some world news leaders Journalist LIke Amanpour!
i believe anything that is good is a culture and anything that is bad is also a cultural habit. for instance the Germans make very good cars. because it is their culture. u cannot make a car like German in a day or a year. most of the people of BD are corrupted because of lack of social security. most of the people dont afraid or even dont feel guilty to tell lies. now education can make u skilled and intellectual but it does not guarantee that it will make u socially morally upright. the morality will come from the society u live in. the use of conscience will come from the guardian u r under. people should change to understand the needs , requirements of the society , to hold together social bonds, social structure to practice good thinking, bring the prosperity all together. people should not take the opportunity of the distresses others.
Yes indeed we are unfortunate to loose the leaders with vision and to be lead by leaders without visions or talent to steer it to the right path. Further being a small tree under a big tree you have to find your way with superior diplomatic skills. Imagine the scenario that "Babgladesh is prosperous, peaceful and Safe" Neighbouring states of India would like to become independent, hence for THE SAKE OF INDIAN INTEGRITY WE WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BECOME PROSPERIOUS, SAFE, PROGRESSIVE AND HONEST DEMOCRACY" . They will keep people like the current PM in power to muddle the water.
unfortunately both BNP AND AL are full of corrupt leaders. General public are hostage to these two parties. These two parties only care for money. Almost all the politicians wants to be very very rich anyway they can – i mean corruption. Remember Suranjit, Abul Hossain, Tareq Zia, Koko, Mamun. Where can we go. God save our country.
I think Sk. Hasina government is not a government in reality. They have come to ruin that poor country. The governing body doesn’t know what their responsibility is. Watching this video it indicates that SK. Hasina, the only thing she is concerned about is her party Awami League. She has neither any contact with the opposition parties nor international organization. She takes control of each and every part of the government and even the ministers are not allowed to take any instant judgment without her consent. Here, on this video she took a fake face when Amanpour asked her about blocking international organizations. She kept saying that her government did this and that all the time but she couldn’t explain what her govt. did last four years, at least the day before building was collapsed! Is this fair to bury killed people but not taking prior steps to save them? This is insane! Under the banner “Accident happens” she tried to put an example of “Texus Furtilizer factory burning” or something which was ludicrous. She has got a bunch of non responsive ministers. There is an existence of Ministry of Textiles & Jute but I cannot see any activity of that government. Besides, Home Minister is accusing opposition parties for that building collapsed pushing pillar by hand!! Home Minister himself is already known as a comedian in Bangladesh. Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, she knows very well what happened in 1971 rather than what is going on today!! In Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh everybody knows that building owner is closely related to the local MP called Touhid Murad, who later refused to have any relationship of the building owner Sohel Rana. To sum up the government so messed up and doesn’t seem to have any patriotism, any condolence for its own country or countrymen. This is such a worst govt. I have ever seen to be honest. Lets see what happens to the affected people. My deepest condolence for those families who lost their son, daughter, father, the most dearest one of their lives.
Elena,
You are correct when you say that our political leadership should leave because they have all miserably failed in running Bangladesh. Bangladesh is filled with tremendous potential and in spite of all the calamities, the people of this country strive to get better. It is this political leadership that stands in its way of growth and development because of massive corruption, nepotism and abuse of power. It would be up to international journalists to use domestic resources to unearth this web and racket of these politicians and show it to the world. One of your good leads would be to investigate the family members of this ruling elite family and you would be amazed to have unearthed the cave of Ali Baba and the 40 thieves!! CNN did not get the visas because you would be uttering OPEN SESAME!! And all will be revealed.
This family makes billions over their tenure and it is all kept in the USA, Canada, UK, Seychelles Island, Singapore, Dubai and the Seychelles.
I've heard maids that can speak better English than her. My God....you are a prime minister to a big country and dealing with 70% of your revenue in international trade! Learn to speak properly lady. And the way she was stammering through this interview...it was so obvious that she was lying thru her skin about all the fellow corrupt officials and poor labor laws that protect no one's A** except the government/officials. Disgusting.
Please someone help. All political parties are corrupt in our country. Both the Awami League and BNP. They are killing millions of people. The people in our country are fearing for their lives. The current government with police killed more then 30,000 people on 6th May 3 AM who protested against them. and dumped their bodies. They banned pro Islamist TV channels so no one could show these horrific bloody scenes as all other TV channels are owned/manipulated by the government. Please see this https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10151889638474112 . Please someone save us from this tyranny

This bangla PM is not that smart. She is backward and not forward looking at the nations and its citizens interest. She might just have killed the goose that lays the golden egg. What happens then? The banglas would then have to live on sunshine, fresh air and grass. Sooner or later they will join the rohingas.
great interview with pm.
but you goofed with your next segment...obama's trip to mexico. the president of mexico's first name is enrique, not enrico. it's a bit of a tongue twister for non spanish speakers, but i know you can and will get it right.
This interview only exposed our prime minster and her present administration....there are numerous cases where govt fails completely to bring culprits to justice particularly when there are links with her party.....this is a sad reality in bangladesh....we have allowed our leaders to run this country the way they like....like the medieval times....corruption and injustice are omnipresent.....the country must think about complete change in its leadership....both the ruling and opposition parties have failed in the last 30 years.... they have shown how autocracy is alive in this country in the name of democracy....sorry for the country...sorry for its leaders....
That's a disgrace, Mr.Haider if you are a Bangladeshi and if you live in Bangladesh. You must take some initiative to change the system. Instead, what are you doing? You keep writing in a foreign country's media websites for actually nothing... And why is that? Let's raise sound against those garments owners. Why you are telling against the government? Do the government own the garment factories? Where is your logic?
430+ workers died not because of low wage or overwork. All of them died because of a badly constructed building owned by a 8th grade graduate, a known criminal , known drug lord, a known killer and a political party youth leader under the full protection of the current government. Even feared RAB won't cross their path with that criminal, because of the political protection. Who should I blame. Garment buyer, garment factory owner or the building owner or the government, who is responsible to ensure properly constructed building.
NUS> U r right...i have no point to argue...we as citizens are so helpless and the govt takes full advantage of our people being so tolerant.... things will change....but it's taking so long as any attempt to find alternative or new leadership is ruined by these leaders......it's our failure as a nation that we still have leaders like these .....
No, not true – government makes law and they should enforce them buy they only break them!! Garments owners have some responsibilities but government should keep an eye on every sector – they are there for that not enjoy lavish life in air conditioned room!!
NSU>>> you are a bloody liar. How much you have paid by HASINA. Please do not trust him..He is one of them. Liar
NUS..u r from Hasina's party BAL...get the hell out of here!!!
NUS – wake up from your sleep. Stop making excuses for your AL. You obviously don't know what a government is for. It is time to demand reform Deshi politics. The foreign media is joining the local media. And NRBs are joining Bangladeshis at home. It is a good sign. You can keep robbing State banks. We'll keep complaining.
Sorry for the country and the people but not for the murdering thug Hasina. This person is a cold blooded murderer.
Yes indeed we are unfortunate to loose the leaders with vision and to be lead by leaders without visions or talent to steer it to the right path. yes u r absolutely right. she is second hinda she wants to kill people who always tells truth.
Yeah I believe my country Bangladesh is densely corrupted. But, as a Bangladeshi citizen I think the current government is better than any other opposition team. And I personally believe our current PM Sheikh Hasina is better than any other politician leader and she has the ability to take proper decision in need. No other leaders is as good as her. However, she is still not good enough to stop total corruption. But, we the citizen of Bangladesh is still hopeful. And we think Bangladesh is more safe in her control than any others.
Hi Sajal! Are you mad? The current government has failed to ensure transparency in everywhere but you are saying it the best govt.? See people like you who judge things blindly are damaging this country's image and that why we are unable to develop our country. Leaders like Hasina should be banned from politics for irresponsibility & corruption.
really......pls suggest us any other option, who is better than Sheikh Hasina.......& pls describe the developments that our previous governments has done . pls we want to know......
Hello Linda! Why I have to give you a list of governments who did well comparing liar Hasina? No government in Bangladesh's history was accused for such corruption and financial scams in their 5 year regime accept the current government. Hasina is a liar, irresponsible and always encouraged corruption and corrupted ministers. Don't you remember that she labeled "Abul" as a "Patriot" after he was accused for Padma Corruption scam?
No , there is no better option for us. Hence we are reflecting them one after another. That's how unfortunate this lovely country and all those hardworking simple poor people!! What else they can do? Who else can they vote? All the your generation is blindly following the bloody politics
I am agree with Mr Saikh. i have seen the interview but i feel ashamed that our PM defend Amanpour by saying " our government take necessary steps.. bla bla bla.. whatever happened in our country we should defend or attack as a nation not as a party when we are accused by some other country. We have tremendous opportunity but due to corruption we always fall back, Leaders are not only corrupted general people are also corrupted. we allow them to do the corruption... so we are supposed to resolve the problem and find a solution not to accused every leader. It is easier to accusing rather solve the problem.... I am very optimistic person and i know we will be listed as a developed country very soon... so stop accusing rather correct yourself.....
@NUS!! 1st of all shame on you for being rude on others. learn some manners first them=n come to any blog for your post. people have same question to you too, what the hell you are doing here?? When hundreds of people are dying in Bangladesh because of present govt's ignorance and corruption, you are being afraid that ' we are blaming ourselves in front of others'. shame on you again? you do not even deserve to talk about well being of BD.
Cant believe ppl like you think she is the best PM. Does she have any brain? We need good intelligent politician not some widow or daughter who inherrited the power and stays in power by lying to the poor people of the country.
We live in this one world and we all have responsibilities toward the slave labors of Bangladesh. Hasina and her son Joy are the two top most corrupted people in the world and biggest liars.
There's nothing to praise.... that's their duties to perform... If they can do, they must not be praised... if the can't do, they must be criticized... So, nothing to praise...
Nus seems to me you are a ghour awami chamcha... 😉
NUS your mom from In....a or Dad from In...a ? How much PM bribe you for post here against Amanpour? Or probably you came from Pabna? Do you understand the value of peoples life or as a blind BAL's supporter you are abide by not to oppose her? Bad is bad and truth never hide, CNN now hit the main point of corruption, I believe soon Amanpour will take her interview for Padma bridge corruption and her sons money laundering case.
nus we should give cnn big thanks for this interview. our leaders do many great things. it will be even greater if they stopped doing those.
They will keep people like the current PM in power to muddle the water.
so how much dough you got from Hasina that witch killing people right n left......
This witch hasina should sent to Hague for war crimes.
@YES! You are right!
She can handle all unexpected matters with confidence...but people can understand!
Unfortunately she can understand...Bangladeshi people treat her as a liar. But after release world see her real face...!
Actually Seikh Hasina is very hectic. She destroyed our economy and backbone of our country. She killed lot of political leader. She also did lot secret political murder....I am from Bangladesh...All peoples of Bangladeshi agreed with me. Do not trust Saif Sajal..He is recruited by seikha hasina. Liar group
Mr. Sajal, you are cautiously optimistic. You don't see the damage caused by the prime minister. Bangladeshi people living in the west, feeling shame for the current regime.
Saif wanted Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib to rule like Castro. He wants Mujib's daughter Hasina to rule like that. He is waiting for Hasina's son Joy to rule like that. He is praying for Joy's child to rule in the future. Saif is happy that Hasina destroys all challengers and rising stars in Awami League. And Saif is a smart Bangladeshi guy as well.
Great interview taken. But the sad reality is she did not take the responsibility of this accident but her administration is liable for the whole massacre. That's the sad part of our leaders. They are ready to blame others rather than taking responsibilities.
You got the point Robin. Actually most of our publics always try to run away from their official responsibilities for their country. They only criticise others. They don't try to fine out what's wrong in them. They just blame others. So first of all public should change. Country will change by itself.
Wrong. The country knows that in a democracy politcians should be held accountable. It is AL and BNP that never hold their leaders accountable. Nobody is running away from their responsibility anymore. People are getting ready to stand up to politicians. People who don't hold politicans accountable – especially in their own party – are cowards, opportunists and hypocrites.
When will the entire video clip will be posted? It is great to that the Government is taking steps in cleaning up the mess created in last 30 years. Reform is need in a lot of sectors in Bangladesh. It is a matter of great hope that the action is being taken by the Government for the culprits of the Savar accident including the garment factory owners and the owner of Rana Plaza.
Actually the government is in denial. It does not understand that without political reform people like Rana will always flourish by serving corrupt politicans. You might be happy that we can deal with ONE building collapse in future. But we deserve better than that.
Hi Saikhchowdhury! Who ensures transparency here? No one. Whom can I choose? Can you suggest one? Comparing others, I think PM Sheikh Hasina is better.
Hi Saif! Yes, the governments of Bangladesh lacks transparency. But may I know which gives you this feelings that the present government is ensuring more transparency than others? From the very beginning of the current regime the govt was always a focal point in international media. The corruption and financial scams of the ministers got international coverage due to the mass corruption. The government has failed to ensure transparency in most of the ministries and the funny part is they are always denying the truth. If you go through this video, you will see that the PM has lied in multiple times and did not accept the liabilities of savar tragedy, killing of Aminul Islam and free media. Can you please answer me if a government exists and they have a department like RAZUK then how come the PM accuses the building owner? We are not responsible enough and thats why such regulatory departments works to ensure that we are constructing the building properly.
Saif as I have posted before, I believe you are one of BAL's corrupted leader or benefit skimmer, You mommy caught so bad on TV, Skin burning or head swelling? CNN is the worlds most authentic news provider mind it, She can dare any powerful person, What the hell is your PM? Amanpour and world have 100% right to know the truth by any mean, Why your GOV didn't given CNN visa for major investigation.
great bro, you are right......................
Dear Sajal, We can trust BNP. Because BNP is batter than Awamilige....They have done lot of killing, they destroyed economy of bangladesh, garments sector, share market, telecom market, podma bridge...etc..Please collect data of BNP and Awamilige goverment. Hope you will find the answer.
why cnn is blaming the PM. They should ask all the questions to the owners of the textile factories in Bangladesh. They are terrorizing the PM as well the government of Bangladesh, by their money power and international Strong corporate textile buyers. CNN should take interviews to the BGMA leaders.
There should always be government intervention when it comes to labour, otherwise you see slavery since most business run with a profit motive. Imagine a country's government did not care about their labour (their own people) and an international business would come and pressure the supplier which leads to the inhumane conditions of these workers. Approaching the factory workers will do nothing, they won't give a damn.
BGMEA leaders are protected by AL and BNP. And you are complaining that CNN is terrorising poor Hasina?! Ths is Bangladesh. Just ridiculous.
The Government of Bangladesh has surely got the responsibility for not protecting the garment workers. There are rules on the book but no implementation of it because of the rampant corruption in the country.
However a lot of responsibility comes to the buyers also, knowing the fact about the poor condition, these people send works to Bangladesh – for only one reason – maximizing their own profit. In a way they are also a part of this slavery which is not unknown to the world. I hope Christiane Amanpour will grill these people in the near future.
@camanpour Thanks for asking some hard and real questions. The GoB did not bother to form a single committee to look into the issues of the garments sector following the death of over 100 workers at a fire incident at Tajrin Fashions in 2012. They allowed the BGMEA, association of the powerful garments owners, to investigate and partly, to regulate by themselves. That is the irony.
Bangladesh needs a Worker Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), an independent body guided by law and free from government control, to enforce compliance of workplace safety rules in factories with the ability to penalize and even close operations for unsafe working condition, and provide compensation to the victims of workplace injury or death. ILO could play a role to coordinate with international aid agencies, importers and retailers for guidance, formulation of policy and rules, and financial and logistic support to the GoB in setting up the WSIB and its initial functioning. Retailers and importers can put forward a condition to set up the WSIB by one year. This could be part of a long-term solution to the recurring issues regarding workplace safety of garments workers.
I agree with you but our politicans will not allow any organisation to go unpoliticised. They can split a KG class into AL and BNP.
Well will anyone explain me what are you actually doing guys? Pointing at the major discrepancy of the definition of patriotism and show-off patriotism, I must ask you why are we arguing here? Are we expecting the outsiders to solve the problems? Are we blaming ourselves in front of others? Actually what are we doing here? What are the duties of the Government and what are the duties of BGMEA - well, are these matters would be solved in this website? Will they fix the blunder? Pity on you, guys.
Like you know they say nothing plus nothing=nothing
that is the problem with Bangladesh both the strong parties AL and BNP both are nothing
our country needs a new face mostly Young!
Great Interview notice that she tried to ignore a lot of questions as she knows that her govt. is corrupted

A campaign shouldn't go against Bangladesh brand. It would kill more people than 437. Instead, developed countries should regulate their companies so that, from where ever they buy product, companies should maintain the working condition. Because of the growing industries, people of Bangladesh have reduced the child mortality rate, gender gaps, and increased the education level, life expectancy, and life standard. Yes, life standard. 15/20 years back thousands of people had died for no reasons (diarrhea, malaria, hunger, flood, violence, what not!).
It is unjust to compare working condition in Bangladesh with that in US, UK or in an European country. Compare it with other developing countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, India, or Pakistan. Life in a developing country is much much different than in a developed country. Look at India, a gang raped happened on a Bus, and it is continuing. This is a developing country.
Yes, yes. And government?
Shame. For some reason I think prime minister is blind or kept blind by the goons of her party people. Seems like she has no clue about the reality in her own country or she is putting a good show about her ignorance. I think she genuinely love Bangladesh, but she is surrounded by some really bad people. I feel shame that I was born in Bangladesh where human life has no value and a 8th grade graduate criminal is doing what ever his criminal mind desire under the full protection of our political party same time Dr. Younus is being called a blood sucker of the poor by this lady.
Well said. However many AL supporters blame Hasina's advisors but forget that Hasina appointed them as advisors in the first place. In a parliamentary democracy the PM is not a decoration plant (as in Bangladesh) – she is ultimately responsible for her cabinet, her MPs, her party and her government. If she can't do the job – she should go! That's democracy. Are we too stupid to understand that?
The two major political parties in Bangladesh are so inherently corrupt and care so much about power that the interests of the people have taken a backseat in their mind. But, the situation has been this way from the birth of the country. So many people are saying that the government needs to be overthrown. But if they do, who will take their place? BNP? Ershad? Hefazat-e-Islam? What we need is a complete overhaul of the judicial system in Bangladesh. But sadly, we have neither the people 'uncorrupt' enough to do that, nor do we have the means. In a country this overpopulated, with such a lack of resources, corruption will always be a problem that any government in power will have to deal with. It is how to keep it to a minimum that is the real challenge, and the true sign of a good government.
@amanpour very well done!!..hats off to ur patience!..sheikh hasina has nothing to do except for denying all the facts. she is such a corrupted leader. in bangladesh, the two parties (BNP and Awami league) are only intrested in gaining power.no one takes action..the govt doesnt care at all abt the poor. Awami league use the force of nationalism to gain support from the ppl...using the fact tht her father (Sheikh Mujib) is the "father of the nation". the govt is dealing with wht happened 40 yrs ago instead of solving current issues...wht a shame for bangladesh! 🙁 Bangladeshis also dont hav that many choice...only two major political parties who are hugely corrupted!!
Hmmm, put bamboo in your own back. The critical Chaghus.
AL and NP put the bamboo on our backs. Its time to bamboo them too. The world is welcome to watch and help us : )
Rip BD as long as these illiterate hoes stay in power . :/
*** BOYCOTT BANGLADESHI PRODUCT****
This year alone, hundreds of garments factory workers died while performing their duty as garments worker in Bangladesh garments factory due to building collapse or building fire. It is clear that Bangladesh building authority approve building plans without taking a good look at the building plans or perhaps, they stay quiet after receiving bribery: Engineers get their dangerous factory building plans approved (somehow), contractors either modify that plan without proper authorization (somehow)- resulting in building collapse and death of thousands of workers: Furthermore, lack of fire safety training and guidelines, weak labor law and under wage keep factory workers barely alive: I ask all international buyers to BOYCOTT Bangladeshi products UNTIL Bangladesh government address this danger in garments factory relating to building construction, building management, employee management, fire safety rules, occupancy requirements that will result in employee safety. Furthermore, Bangladesh government created a dangerously politically unstable country by allowing all kind of corruption and anti-democratic activities: again I ask all to BOYCOTT Bangladeshi product until all HUMAN RIGHTS CONCERNS are properly addressed by Bangladesh government. We all want Bangladesh to prosper but not at the cost of innocent peoples lives.
Boycotting Bangladeshi products will push us to poverty, not her.
European shouldn't go against Bangladesh brand. It would kill more people than 437...approx 3 corer people will die.
Proactive measures should be taken and not reactive ones. Given that Bangladesh is so highly dependent on this industry, boycotting means economic recession, in the long run. Not like the people in power will suffer. It will be the poor who will be worse off. The many hard working, dedicated owners maintaining their factories well will suffer due to other's negligence and reactive approach. BOYCOTTING IS NOT THE SOLUTION.
Hello There! why we need to boycott BD product ? Its only for INDIA who is creating so many propaganda to catch the Intl market ? Seems to me you are INDIAN ....
She is a great liar. I request her to watch the interview again and she will understand how she otherwise confessed that she was telling lies and doing mockery with the people of Bangladesh.
This is her natural tone......her way of being arrogant......and showing no respect to others' views....of course always defends her wrondoings......who will tell her she lives in a different world!
I am sorry that this women is the primiminister of my country. She hides truth, tell lie and argued badly!
I'm strongly disagree with Prime minister of Bangladesh Sheihk Nasina and she is 100% liar. And what she said on interview that also lie.
Garment industy in devloping world work on razor thin margins, thanks to over ambitious price target set in by larger corporation in west to maxmimise there profits. There are all kinds of calamities in devloping world including power cuts, inclemement wheather, tragedies.. but with very quick turn around time.. if the goods are not shipped on time, the entire consignment is cancelled... a consignment labelled Gap would not be picked by another customer and there goes life time of earning of the exporter. This leaves exporter with little choice... supply at all cost to remain in business... unethical practices and with just a hullobollo for workers right takes noone anywhere...
We people of Bangladesh just want replacement of this sick woman with a PIG if necessary.
well said, a pig will be much better than this sick hasina.
She is criminal. Criminal minds she has and her party men too. I wish if I could see her destruction in my lifetime. May Allah destroy this Jalem.
i am ashamed..... blatant lies...
Abu Yousuf
What a surprise that as a prime minister you don’t CNN is not allow ? What you know Prime minister ? Also you said Free Country ? Free Country as kill people left and right on the street for free? Bangladeshi people will bring justice for you . Don’t be surprise for that Day prime minister Sheik Hasina . Its shame you to be a prime minister of Bangladesh .
She is a liar!
Though she is our prime minister , we feel shame for her activities.
She is the president of ruling party Awamilegue. Awamilegue is one the most terrorist political party in South Asia.
We are all Bangladeshis are feed up on him.
Around 100 million peoples are unemployed and it is increasing day by day.
World Bank refuse loan for Padma Bridge for her cabinet ministers corruption.
Thank you for nice interview. Also thanks CNN.
Yes it is the Awami league who take forign aid and invite the neighbours to attack the country in 1971 and at a result Bangladesh came in the map and further thousands of urdu speaking East Paksitani nationals brutally killed who had soft corner for Pakistan
Is "Engr." your first name? lol Your parents named you Engr. during your childhood? Why the god damn world need to know what is your profession? Can't you guys learn to be humble and polite? Sorry about the harsh comment, but I think it is appropriate here.
Unbelievable that our prime minister thinks she can fool around with Amanpour. Unfortunate to be part of a country where the leaders have no value for human life. 400 people dead to them is just a number. However, boycotting Bangladeshi products is not the answer. Proactive measures should be taken and not reactive ones.
There is a saying, "A nation gets it's leader it deserves"
Tonight's interview with the Prime Minister Mrs. Hasina was great. Christiane Amanpour did a wonderful job of pinning her ears back. Bangladesh needs a new prime minister and most of the country's political leaders should be thrown out.
Mrs. Hasina is totally laying the main issue to bringing all the employee of the Garment Industry. The Garment Industry clearly closed by the Industry owner.
Mr. Rana a high profile Awami League youth leader and the owner of Industry Building not the owner of Garment Industry call all the Garment Industry employee with pressure and threatened with a plea as if the worker do not attend to the work will not get pay for the month.
Mr. Rana and his associates who want manpower to resist against the Opposition Partly who called on stick against Mrs. Hasina and the Ruling Government, and the tragedy took place.
As a building owner Mr. Rana is not alone responsible. Today’s interview with Mrs. Hasina, it is clear that Awami League Party decision and the Awimi Government to brought all the 3000 employee to a death trap danger building to meet their political role
I do not understand how a country prime minister Mrs. Hasina can lying and denying. Mrs. Hasina and her ruling Awami League Party totally responsible for this tragedy and killing of over 400 people.
I request Amanpour to asses the interview with Prime Minister Hasina. Just check the informations the honorable PM has said to her( political connection of the owner of the Rana Plzaz and aminul Murder case. Aminul's dead body was identified by his family..not by the law enforcing agencies) there are so many lies. collect those information and take another interview to prime Minister hasina.
i think that's a great idea. let PM prove her transperancy
The most evil of all people is a stupid man who is obeyed by his people!
Listened to the interview with Hasina @ CNN. Hasina, as usual, was clumsy and garrulous, no amount of homework could have made it better. But the CNN host also seems to be unaware of plain facts. Since when did Mr. Sohel Rana become the "top leader of Awami League" or "head of the youth league" ? Was Aminul Islam really a "major union leader" ? Also the claim that CNN was "not allowed" to cover the story seems absurd. First, there are specific rules for journalists to obtain visa to BD, like everywhere else in the world. The FF-I and II forms need to be filled which takes 21 days to get approval. The story line of the report needs to be submitted, not only for this particular event, but for any story one wants to make. Here's a link to the FF-II form. http://www.bdcgny.org/download/forms/visa_ff-ii_form.pdf . The right to confiscate journalist properties, is not something that is found only in "draconian" states like Bangladesh, but also in "democratic" countries like UK as well. http://www.infowars.com/british-cops-will-be-allowed-to-confiscate-material-from-journalists/
compare the situation in Bangladesh right now with Somalia but not U.K.
CNN did the nation the greatest service by challenging one of the two Begums as much as possible. These two are never challenged inside the country. I doubt CNN could not get into UK to cover a disaster. In Desh CNN would have been restricted because Hasina is sensitive to international opinion and her servants want to show her that they have managed the media. Anything that upsets the two Begums is a good thing : )
I saw many people interviewed by Christian Amanpour and I think she will agree with me that this Hasnia was the most annoying ever!
Sheikh Hasina is lady version of movie "The dictator" Sacha Baron.
Journalists from all over the world has the tendency to arise controversies towards big personalities for being popular as a journalist and to get more recognition. When it is Bangladesh the situation is complex and even more complex to present.its all about confidence !!! Doesn't matter USA/CNN , the way PM revert World should know there is a strong leader in Bangladesh and in future they can't put blame on us!!!
Well done PM ,
Are you dreamimng? The whole world is STILL blaming the government. You can't market your Hasina (or Khaleda) like before. The world knows Hasina just as well as you do. Fortunately, the world is not Hasina's chamcha.
Madam, With due respect I want to say that you were disgusting when talking with a P.M of a Country. You do not know how to talk with manners with a P.M. OH! right she is a P.M of a third world country. HUH!? Looking forward to see you talking to Mr. Obama like this interrupting him middle of his talking.
Do u think these politicians deserve better treatment? Or do they deserve any respect who are crazy for their power in exchange of blood of their people? I thank CNN for revealing some truth at least. Basically I don't like CNN but this time I will appreciate if they can reveal all the stories behind secret kidnapping, killing, mass killing of people of Bangladesh.
Being a citizen of Bangladesh,I am afraid why the issue of Aminul islam came here on it..When no body knows him.I don't find this was relevant to ask a PM of Bangladesh on an interview. Moreover, i am sorry about the fact that the interviewer should not tend to hurt on some bodies ego when some one is the elected prime minister of a country and should not interrupt while taking an interview. It could have been in a good manner. As the issue is so sensitive and it was an internal issue of a country about an accident.Should we judge a pm like this from an interview who's first language is not English.Obviously the interviewer gets the support of opposition parties as the opponent leader can't say a single word in English by herself but that does not mean the interviewer got the clap from Bangladeshi citizens.
The interviewer got thunderous applause at home and abroad. Do you think her ministers in private are saying she did a good job? If she can't handle English she shouldn't have given the interview. This proves her lack of judgement. Stop yhinking about image and start thinking about truths. If Rana didn't want to impress his AL patrons he woudl not have forced those workers into the building. Rana thinks like AL (and BNP). Speak the truth. We can't hide anymore. .
It is unfortunate people lost lives .there is need to human life in all our endeavours rspecially in the thirdworld . In Uganda we lost lives in hotel construction towards 2007 CHOGM
FOR THIS GENOCIDE ....ITS ALSO CAUSE OF HUGE UNNECESSARY FALSE ALARM FOR ORDER CANCELLATION NOTICE FROM BUYERS AND POOR PRICE TO GARMENTS FACTORY BUT HIGH SALING PRICE TO RETAIL CUSTOMERS EVERY DEVELOPED COUNTRY...TODAY I BUY I SET OF BOXER (3 PCS) FROM H&M BY e 9,95 WHICH IS MADE BY BANGLADESH...I CALCULATED THE COST MOSTLY PAID TO BANGLADESHI FACTORIES BY BUYER MOSTLY USD : 0.50 – 0.60 CENT/ PC .....SO, THINK IS THAT WHO IS DRINKING THE POOR BANGLADESHI BLOOD ? WHO IS MAKING MONEY FOR THIS CHEAPEST LABOURS AND WHO CANT AVOID THEIR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS GENOCIDE...CAPITALISM IS KILLING THE POOR COUNTRIES EVERYDAY...IM WAITNG TO SEE THE @camanpour INTERVIEW WITH WORLD BRANDS OWNERS ABOUT LOW COST GARMENTS ....THANKS WATIRA 🙂

Christiane Amanpour........u SHOULD interview HASINA....AGAIN .....
English is a difficult language Prime Minister....still have to go a long way...
Our PM seikh hasina is lier. Her party worker sohel rana, who is the owner of Rana Plaza killed 500 garment workers. Our PM's homeminister M.K Alamgir is now called "National Jocker"!! M.k alamgir's opinion is, 'building(Rana plaza) destroyed by the oposition party'!! How funny!! We, the people of Bangladesh guess that, the Killer sohel rana will get lowest punishment because he is the leader of PM's party!!
Dear World!
I love to see that you people are feeling for us. My respect to you !
But i feel thundered when i come to know that your companies are leaving us because we don't pay our labors properly and don't even provide them good working environment. I want to let you know that it wasn't just our fault that we didn't do anything for our brothers ans sisters. In some cases, we couldn't. Why you don't think that your companies' profit level crossed the sky only because they didn't pay us properly.
My humble request to you-Please go through the news published by CNN, then push your world leading COMPANIES to pay us the amount that they didn't pay us over the last 20 years. We won't mind if they go after paying us that amount, though i fear that much amount can put your economy in deep pressure. Hopefully you won't mind to take that pressure for the sake of HUMANITY. Let me know that HUMANITY matters most to you!
Thank You,
A Bangladeshi
Dear Aynul Bashar Amit,
They have paid lot. But your political leader could not convey actual price to workers. It is our political fault. Only our government responsible for it. Only government are responsible for mass killing of garments workers. So why they come to us..We do not need them. We do not want to loose our workers. For stupid Hasina we can not do garments business.
–it is very unfortunate that the representatives of our country are not the one who we want to represent our country. The political situation is very poor and I wish the two political family – the Mujib family and the Zia family were no longer in the power...i think the people of Bangladesh doesn't care about politics anymore!!! me being a Bangladeshi, want to live in peace and hope for a better government.
- Hasina sucks in English and couldn't even answer a single question straight away!!! All she could say was "Listen"...
- I would say, "shame on all of you who support these two political family. its the voters who are to be ashamed!!! Mujib and Zia...they were not bad leaders...I salute both of them and respect them with all my heart because they at-least did something for the people and the country...but now...these political families are just ruining their name and making a bad impression to the future generation!!!"
–I hope for a better Bangladesh where people could at least live peacefully and with better political leaders and above all with no corruption in the government !!!!
Is it the Govt, to be responsible only? Now Bangladesh has many NGOs doing lot of works on Garment workers , Garment industries Lot of seminars are being held to let us know about the rights of the worker, specially female workers in the garment industries. Millions are pouring into the fund of NGOs Industry owners are proud to say Bangladesh has got the cheapest labour Yes our labours r happy whatever they have at the end of the month , not knowing where they work. It is not Sheikh Hasina who is responsible, it is the beneficiaries of garment business who r responsible. Sheikh Hasinas will come and go, but the garment businessmen will talk of Michael Angelo meaning nothing. Most of the garment owners have the latest things to enjoy , but the garment labours should have the minimum facilities to enjoy life International Community , pls do not add fuel to fire to destroy our hard earned industry
May I request CNN not to be trapped in the net of Anti war criminal trial camps in home and abroad Being Bangladeshis if they campaign against the garment industry of Bangladesh they kick the empty stomachs of those labours who survive because of these industries Bangladesh Garment industries have many positive sides too GDP rate is reasonable, access to food has increased Pls do not destroy this committed working force Do not make Bangladesh another Somalia Afganistan Syria Iraq This country was liberated after much sacrifice
I must say that the tragedy is being used by various quarter for their benefits. In response to such a disaster, vested interest groups have drawn other issues and have diverted the responsibility to others. CNN has failed to conduct in depth analysis of the situation and have provided details very superficial during the interview. Even the Pope has demonstrated his inabilities to access the situation by stating "Slave Labour".
The Tragedy is simply a results of poor construction. The reasons behind the poor construction can be in many folds. First of all, it starts with landfilling of a waterbody; improper piling for the foundation of the building, wrong load calculations, inferior construction materials, faulty constructions, lack of supervisions,etc.. Failure of the authorities to inspect in various stages of construction and also to certify the building safe for inhabitation. The answer to these questions by proper professionals shall hopefully lead to proper systems to prevent such tragedy in the future. Many buildings in Bangladesh has similar status in term of safety due to poor construction including apartment building.
You have rightly stated "Corruption" is the single most reason behind this tragedy. Even after the crack appeared, public officials declared the building safe. Which resulted in large number of casualties.
"Garment Industry" bashing is becoming a major issue for Bangladesh. Most people blame Garment Industry for all the woes especially vested interest groups. You really need to survey the wages throughout various industries and find the median wages and then compare the wages paid along with the benefits. You can not compare wages with other countries wages and draw your conclusions. International trade bodies and local NGO's would like you to believe that wages are unfair. Do an independent study, also do a feasibility study on a garment industry and find out how profitable is it. Comments that poor standards are due to greed for increased profit is simply not true. There are obviously people, who do not comply with norm and create unsafe workplace, but that can not be generalized. Folks must realize that only better governance will deliver a healthier and safe workplace for Bangladesh. Not by destroying the only industry that has allowed the female population to take charge of their lives and determine their destiny. This industry has saved the women from far more hazardous environments in both their domestic and workplace lives. Issues with Trade bodies is subject to the labour laws. Labour laws are simply weird in Bangladesh and thus trade bodies remains undesirable for businesses.
There was a shopping center in the building, no mention of the shop's owners or their employees. This is sad.
Humanity binds us all. We must not forget any soul lost in this tragedy. We should all help the survivors to deal with the trauma and their future.
Hope you would do more in depth research before drawing conclusions.
from my perception it waz an irritating interview program designed by cnn ... including this cnn , world media always try to prove that Bangladesh is nothing , yes u hav ryt to ask about d situation but most ov d tym you r doing this just to make fun , just for insulting Bangladesh nothing else ..... fact is that u ppl hav no sympathy for Bangladesh , u just wanna suppress our politician for ur ill purpose ... i hate those foreign dog licking ppl , from that view i salute Bangladeshi PM , she shown her brave enough ... thatz all .
@Reza-Yes Reza, so you agree that slavery is okay. Poor conditions for labour is okay. Imprisoning the opposition MPs is okay. And so many other corrupt things are ok. Yes?
@reza, your Perception are out of this world. All you can say is cry for country. When people like you dont realize how pathetic you and your country politics is, u r never gonna succeed. I Have no Shame to say that my country is ruled by bunch of idiots because of bunch of morons like you. Who will do anything to lick the feet of political party they support. Wake up bro. realize your faults and be a real Bangladeshi. Khali gola Fadai Chillaile hoy na, stand for country.
@nijam
um not a supporter of BAL and also hate the wrong politics of bd but sorry i will not be like others so to make fun for insulting our pm (just for nothing) ... yes she waz wrong in few points but she showed her brave enough to kicked foreign dogs rather than licking the feet of foreign devils ….
@Reza
You are to the point about they have no sympathy for Bangladeshi but you did not realize that they have no sympathy and respect for corrupted Bangladeshi that includes PM.
@haque
U said they have no sympathy and respect for corrupted Bangladeshi that includes PM. Thatz good , but why they are always trying to make a favorable playing field for them with our toy politician ? why they show interest to interfere in our own political activities ? what is the reason ?
What is their benefit ? no sympathy but too much interest !!!
Reza. Free yourself. Join the movement. the face of Bangladesh is not Hasina – it is the garments worker. It is Hasina and Khaleda who are bad and make us look bad. Don't worry about the image of the nation. We are a great nation. But we have to take responsibility for our own country. Every mature politician can handle such an interview. Our two Begums are a failure. We need reform. The situation is so bad than anything that pressures the two Begums is a good thing. Amanpour has done the country a great service. We are grateful.
I don't think she was listening to Amanpore .
Shame for us, we are ruled by such government.
It was good to see such interview. It was hard to believe our PM attended such interviews. If we can force our political leader to face such interviews than there will be very few corruption. But it is only a dream for us.
Thanks Amanpour . You have showed that courage what should be practiced in our news.
about Shavar tragedy.. that building wasn't the last one. maximum building of our city are build with no proper building code. Gov take very few steps to eradicate it.
Thank you Christiane for your help. it was amazing how you put all fact together and sk hasina keep covering her fault and singing good song about her party. she doesn't represent bangladesh. nether Begum Khaleda Zia care about bangladesh. Please interview BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda zia also. so people of bangladesh will know the real truth. Our both parties are same way corruption and favoritism. This is sad Bangladesh Government does't have to explain why this tragedy happens. There is no accountability for anything. No human rights or has no value of people lives or voice.
Bangladeshis are sick and tired of seeing same parties over and over for 30 some years.
Hey u kicked a$$ with the PM u had her flubing her words good Job hope to see ur news cast live from there !!!!! again ty for the great Job
Please reveal more truth about present goverment . then you will surprise to see how hasina treat her people so badly . Mass killing , kidnap , turture by police and her party is normal in Bangladesh. Please visit Bangladesh to find out reall truth about brutality..... Thanks Amanpour!!!!
IMO, Sheikh Hasina was doing what any leader of a developing country riddled with corruption would do. She defended her government's action. RMG is big industry. There are big firms which have very good standards. And there are some which don't fully meet standards. Stereotyping wouldn't help the country in this case.
I think CNN should provide sufficient proof that international media wasn't allowed access in Bangladesh. BBC did a great job covering it. Why on earth CNN wouldn't be allowed? I wonder how much damage done to the goodwill of Bangladesh due to such inconclusive claim !!
Sheikh Hasina,so what about the killing of her own family? Was it an accident too?
Practice corruption your way.Wait till you die -lots of surprises waiting for you in hell-that's when you are going to understand "accident" in its fullest term.Put yourself in the shoes of those who lost their loved ones-even in your dream-and see how they feel.
All evil in this world will be accounted for-be it Bangladesh building collapse,World Trade Center,Connecticut killing,Boston Bombing.
The creator will give justice-despite what culture, religion,or rank you come from
Hi Ruba...Seems to me you are supporting the Killing Mission at 1975 in BD...Just Sickness !!!
I'm not-

Because of their corruption,so many poor people lost their lives. Before u become judgmental, read the post a few times
Who cares about the corrupted government or the rich asses in Bangladesh.I am only worried for the poor...
It is pathetic-someone whose family was killed with so-called Killing Mission(related to welfare of country) is so corrupted to call the collapse and killing of more than 500 people-a mere accident..

THEN OPPOSITION WENT THERE AND START POLITICS ON IT .....WHY NOT PM WENT AS LIKE KHALEDA ? WHY PRESIDENT TAKING OATH? Ritzy, thanks for responding.I am busy too here at work.I am a working mom-sister-in-law and father-in-law contributed financially to the collapse.I plan to contribute some soon.
@ Christiane Amanpour ... No objection about your points but we expected you to be more polite to our Prime Minister 🙁 ..
today the people of Bangladesh are very shocked. We know that showing curtesy is precondition for effective communication. I have question to all,has Amanpour showed a simple respect to Sheik hasina as a prime minister?
Would not deny that there is corruption, which does exists every where. But as our country is third world country it is always seen. Why only blame the government? The police did go and warn them about the building. They are work for the government. If you have to blame, then blame those people running the garment, the purchaser who gives a pressure to the garments owner about order cancellation, which will make thousands of people lose their income.
As a matter of fact instead of agreeing and criticising our Prime minister regardless who you all support, go through the video again. I found Christiane Amanpour extremely rude and I am offended by the way she was talking and interrupting. There were no signs of respect, even I doubt you would be talking like this with any other Prime Ministers.
Dear Tan,
Garments owners are innocent. Only Rana forces them to enter to the building. They did not want to enter. And HASINA gave order to RANA to do that. So only HASINA is responsible for mass killing...Please take a interview of RANA. Then He must said all the name of his GOD Father.
If i were a journalist i would have done more worse than C. Amanpour..... The liar PM deserved that.
Amanpour was respectful enough. Hasina gets enough respect inside Bangladesh – everybody around her treats her like a damn god. You are worried about respect and image. Why? Respect is earned. We Bangladeshis have a very sensitive jaath-gelo gene : )
Dear Anisul,
We are not shocked as a Bangladeshi. HASINA prove that she is a great liar in front of world. And Bangladeshi 80 percent ppl are happy now to know that she prove over the world her self as a great liar.
@Christiane Amanpour, Please do a follow-up interview with the PM but this time you need to bring Mrs. Zia on the interview too. I just want to show that interview to both of my daughters and tell them, when they grow-up, they can NOT be like these two ladies from Bangladesh.
@ Christiane Amanpour ... No objection about your points but we expected you to be more polite to our Prime Minister:@
Truth is free from diplomacy and any other emotion. No country-be it US,Bangladesh,or Australia can change purity of heart.
Corruption is everywhere-kind of like blue collar and white collar-some show, others are well hidden
Good point,Aynul Bashar,Amit-3 things are to be blamed for the collapse and the killing of those people-corrupted Bangladeshi government, greedy owner of building and factories, and greedy international companies who want to profit from cheap labor
Ruba : I wanna add some points that : its cause of capitalism system of world Brand buyers and Our poor governance....Mostly Greedy our political leaders who made SHOHEL RANA. 2) BGMEA who making & supporting Guilty factory owners & that is cause of killing innocent labours also ....
Here Shohel Rana is arrested but his GOD FATHER not yet arrested.....BGMEA lost their face value already to public and buyers.....but who will ask to buyers to take their responsibility before place the order those kind of factory...? Buyers are simply wanna keep on pressure & false alarm for order cancellation and discount to make more money from BD market...Buyers are only thinking for money & they dont care about anything who make their valued upcoming production...!
Christiane Amanpour.....you are a great journalist indeed but imagine you were showing same body language in front of Late Indira Gandhi !!
For the first time in 5 years, I watched a full interview of our PM, and my expression was WOW!! I usually turn off my TV whenever I see that lady addressing in public or in an interview; and the reason is very simple, that is she is a BIG LIAR. She is the godmother of all criminals. She can't tolarate her criticism so she has already banned so many leading news papers, TV channels of Bangladesh and arrested on of the leading editor and journalist, tortured him on police custody. She has also arrested thousands of opposition party leaders and activist including the secretary and member of parliaments from the leading opposition party. She is monster, even if you write about her in facebook, the intelligent agency will catch you and imprisoned you for years. She is a big disgrace for the country.
hey justice,
do not try to involve NGO. Only Hasina is responsible for this mass killing...She force them to enter for work. Because there was a strike called by opposition party. She did not want people obey the strike. Only Hasina is responsible for this mass killing...Please arrest her.
Please stop buying from Bangladesh....There is blood every where...Do not buy blood...
wow our PM think she was going to interview in local news channel but she did not realized she is on CNN and Christiane Amanpour did her homework before interview her. well done
First of all Thank You CNN and Amanpour for covering this! She is so blatantly lying all through out the interview-which is evident to everyone! This is a disgrace to our Country! She is set on turning Bangladesh into another Pakistan, or might I say, into another Afghanistan while making as much monetary profit as possible. She should be taken in custody and put into a criminal if not mental asylum (I say asylum considering that there will be so many people who would rather see her dead, and this goes for the Leader of the main opposition party as well).
But, most of all, it is about time that the international society gets an insight into how careless the Bangladeshi government is about their people and how far they can go to ensure their personal prosperity.
I will humbly request the international export/import (garments) industry not to take away the livelihood of millions of hard working Bangladeshis and to put pressure on the governing body of Bangladesh to take responsibilities and give them an ultimatum to shape up their acts.
From this interview i got an essence of corruption and mental image of the PM (Bangladesh). Concur with all commentator's comments above. Thanks CNN and Christiane Amanpour to addressed this crucial issue to the world.
How funny she can do ! we are astonished to listen the interview. As a prime minister she never says it is an accident.
we have a historical background where the nation knows how to fight in the fix situation. But some leaders damage our traditions. we have enough resources that must have known to the rest world. we need only a great/truthful/honor ruler.
A liar when become to rule any state then the state fail to express its reality. just now we are Bangladeshi fell into the same.
Thank you Christiane Amanpour! and the Team and CNN!
Bangladesh PM has lost her mind!!! UNPROFESSIONAL AND AN ABSOLUTE FAILURE. I guess this is what happens when you for vote for an UNEDUCATED person to lead a country. A country like Bangladesh needs a true leader with high character and credentials WHICH IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN IN THE NEXT 100 YEARS. SAD... I have nothing but sympathy and pity for such 'FREE COUNTRIES'.

Good job man
this was not a fair interview at all! ... so may this post gets deleted but any way i hope you miss ampoor will read it
we get t-shirts from bangladesh, we pay them less then $1 and we sell the t-shirts for more then $10, and now we hate them because they invest in food instead of security? ... they are criminals not as we are, we just make profit on theyr cost and now they openly say it, let me guess they are the right hand of al quaeeda now... and they also say such a thing could happen every where... this is realy shocking as we know its clearly a lie! ... such things could never happen in the USA where a whole town got flattened by a fertilizer company in texas .... no such security issues only exist in bangladesh... there a building did fall in parts and not a whole town ... i totaly agree such criminals in bangladesh need to get punished by the international community because we in the western world pay them less then $1 and winn more then $9 and they dare to not invest in security but buy food, and if some thing happens they dont even blow up a whole town.... they are very bad people and we are much better then such folks .... ampoor i hope you realy rethink about on which side you are with your propaganda and i hope you will get all the medicine you need to sleep well .... fool of your self as you are i guess this will never happen.... but this is only a question of the moral which is any way not very high in the USA ... a other point is your kind of interviewing people .... if you ask people some thing you sould also let them answer ... this is some thing that counts for every one and not only for your golden friends in the middle east ... this is the difference from fair Q&A/journalism and cheapest propaganda as you miss chief of what ever you like are delivering over and over, just watch your self how do you speak to african leaders or arabic leaders or any leaders from above and how you talk to european or american or other golden leaders as they like it, this should even shock your self if you are a human being, the short time where you were away from cnn was a good time, i hope you will disapear again to just no where and i hope cnn will replace you with a fair interviewer or a journalist instead of a other propaganda chief officer god ... at least one point you have on your side .... your propaganda is so cheap so that it turns your show into a short entertainment segment on CNN
and now hurry hurry press the emergency delete button else some one will think about it
Totally agree with you Garry grey- atleast Amanpour needs training in terms of how to conduct herself in live tv.
Yes – Amanpour can learn from so many bangaldeshi journalist about how to have a challenging interview with Hasina and Khaleda.
Perhaps Munni Shah can be a go couch. Even we can try to change the whole US political culture to Bangladeshi political culture then we can really expect to get some great US journalist of our taste.
Any Prime Minister with a slight brain would have resigned after this heinous crime of killing these poor garments factory owners. The PM of Bangladesh is belligerent idiot who does not have any respect for its own people and only clinging on the power by virtue of Indian slavery and selling out the country outright.
One more hidden truth is that the building was jam packed with Political activist plus the existing garments workers who were forced to bring out a procession for the ruling political party. Garments workers were reluctant to come or even join the procession but were forced to join work and subsequently was suppose to join the Anti hartal procession for the Ruling party.
If it had been honorable opposition leader Khaleda Zia/Gen Ershad what would have been your views Pls do not dig politics into everything If we want to bring upside down our friends abroad will laugh at us Ultimate solution of our problems lies with us, but not with Amanpour By showing PM Hasina CNN has carried out a moral obligation She deserves it because she is the daughter of the founder of the nation
Nowadasy, if it had been Khaleda or Ershad – the response would have been the same. An idiot is an idiot – doesn't matter who the husband or the father is. Western politicans are challenged even harder than this. Western journalists don't have to be so sensitive about some cry baby Deshis.
Amanpour was rude. She needed to show a minimum respect to the PM of Bangladesh. She was clever as she avoided so many vital points during the interview. All she said "I was told", whenever she needed to avoid some points made by PM of Bangladesh.
We demand respect and insist that Hasina is interviewed by an intern at CNN next time.
@Shadhin bangla
You are a liar & exaggerating the issue. Have you donated a single penny to the victims? you just talk like a great intellectual. but in reality you are a great idiot. & remember "any resignation can not solve a great disaster"
There is an international propaganda to derail democracy in Bangladesh so that boot licking subservient chamchas like Yunus can be put in power to implement their agenda.
Resignation of Khaleda and Hasina will solve many future disasters. If they resigned earlier maybe politics would be reformed sooner – and maybe corruption would be reduced and those poor workers would still be alive. In Bangladesh the greater the failure the more people want to stay in power. Pathetic.
What's with your tone of voice? Who are you to speak with that tone- Amanpour sounded unprofessional in her tone and needs to work on how journalists should sound like in live television.
the prime minister seems to be hiding a lot of secret. you were too tough on her.
BIG THANKS CNN ... can't be great full enough to do this for the people of Bangladesh.
I have never seen such Impolite behavior with a PM. She is our PM....CNN has no right to do such behave with Bangladesh..... Amanpour did this, because it was BD. How funny question was that, for visa our embassy gave a form to fill up. Whole world can cover the tragedy except CNN....I am also astonished and disheartened to see some Bangladeshi's comment here against our country. We are still a developing country...We have to face many problem daily...We are fighting against poverty....But we believe, one day we can overcome all obstacle....Most of the people are illiterate also.......I am sorry to say that some Bangladeshi also talking against Bangladesh......I hate them...like Amanpour....
Ms. Amanpour, please learn to show respect first and get your facts right. Who told you the stats? Your source provided incorrect information Bangladesh has 18 satellite channels and none of those are censored. Your team wants to go to Bangladesh without filling a visa form? How BBC and other reported the events? How would you not distance yourself with Clinton family and NOT protect their interest? Yes, Bangladesh has millionsof problems, but don't compare a developing nation with G7 one. If you can, be part of the solution. Perhaps you should tell US companies to pay more for the Bangladeshi products. Lastly, just because a person doesn't speak English very well you don't have to treat them like a slave. It's not about asking tough question, it's about asking accurate fact based question which promotes positive results. One more thing, THANK YOU for your effort for covering Bangladesh in your privately owned news outlet.
Apparently pm wants to put the blame on factory owners. Night before the tragedy one private channel broadcast Rana, s interview. There very confidently he said , building is ok. Even it came to newspaper that he faked two of his friends as engineer and assured factory owners and workers that the cracks are fine. Building is safe to work.
PM said that all the authorities told factory owner’s not to use the building night before the collapse. Then how they opened the factory? Why police didn’t seal it? Why police didn’t arrest those guys that morning for not obeying police order. We should not forget how powerful these police are! They arrested all the opposition leaders, stormed the opposition headquarter. Then these tiny miny factory owners not gonna listen to them! Who on earth gonna believe it?
PM said Rana is not the member of awami league. Is it true or false? Definitely
false. Because Rana is a awami league leader hundreds of photos proved it. How pm will explain the kissing scene between Rana and local awami league Member of parliament(MP).
Building was built 1995 after that awami league came to power twice why they didn’t demolish it then.
PM doesn’t know about the rejection of CNN’s visa. why on earth she sat on a interview with CNN without home work.
Some of the comments I saw surely opposition political party supporters. The fact is when you will come to power you will do the same thing. The biggest crime is not to let UK or UN team to come for rescue .With better equipments and training definite some more life can be saved. CNN can get big thanks for the interview. At least this people will understand out side Bangladesh they are really nothing but a laughing stock.
these guys think that the whole world should be free of visa for them ! and they are saying all words about sovereignty peace and democracy !
Sk. Hasina promised before election that she would provide job for each person of all families (home) in Bangladesh.
Now she says she has NOT said this.
She declared that she will control the price of rice to Tk. 10 (almost USD 0.125). Now she denies.
There are many such things you will find, if you want.
Now she takes idea/ plan from our neighbor country.
Last couple of months ago she killed almost 170 peoples just to stop voice against her.
Her only goal was to take revenge of her father’s murder.
It is a shame that person like her is a prime minister.
A stupid prime minister who can't even respect journalist...
money stolen by bangladeshi poor people => http://opinion.bdnews24.com/2011/03/19/the-mystique-of-pm%E2%80%99s-son/
seutfpsrugh0rewispv;kdflbjiughu867s8re8aw-pd['lzx;vmk
Dear Amanpour, I want to tell you something. i have never seen a stupid journalist like u. How dare you to tell A Prime minister "STOP".I have seen the interview . Both of u and PM told some lies.U told that Rana was a Top leader of rolling govt. How u told this?? He was just a activist of Youth league.and PM totally ignore this. You told that Aminul islam was a leader of labour union. But there is no labour union in Bangladesh
Yes Anter5, you are right that both of them do wrong as you say. But I think, Amanpour is the right person to talk that way with this kind of PM where nobody left to speak truth in front of this tyrant.
Please, save it. Sheikh Hasina is dumb, irresponsible and a total ignorant idiot. And take your awami league ass out of here. By the way, I am bengali myself and hate both the women trying to run our country.
AT Antar5 ::: I am a Bangladeshi citizen and I don't like any politician in our country u know why because they all are corrupted. you stupid did not see how Hasina was answering her? she was not letting her talk. if I were her I would slap Hasina's face two times instead of saying STOP.
You stupid,u have to know that all politician are not corrupted.Shame on that u recognize u as a bangladeshi and didn't say anything when a foreigner behave like a stupid with your Primeminister
#Christiane Amanpour , i wished i could kiss ur hand , you are the 1st human being who've hammered her with bunch of question :X
I saw the whole fourteen minutes of the interview. Its absolutely shocking. The prime minister is in denial, does not and will not take responsibility. I am also surprised to hear that CNN journalists are not allowed in Bangladesh. I pride myself knowing that I was born in a free country and there needs to be investigation about this.
Nice to see we stiil love her(Bangladesh)amidst all corrupted leaders ..reminds us of 1971 when youngsters fought to free our sweetheart from evil Pakistanis. No place on earth is sweeter than you, even if I don't dwell there:)
excellent journalism in exposing the conceited, bare-faced lying, corrupt, extorter of bribes, facist "university educated", so called Prime Minister Hasina. This is the worst government in bangladesh ever. Not so much politicians as illiterate pick-pockets. Always some level of corruption in Bangladesh but this government is something else. Padma Bridge scandal, shares scandal, looting of sonali Bank, the recent collapsed Rana building ( a top awami thug), 3000 dissappearances, all oppositioin leaders arrested, torture and murder of garments labour activist Mr Aminul islam, the list goes on and on..........
Please see my comment hope you will find the answer.
I was so surprised that Amanpour didnt know which trade union was belonged by Aminul that she was referring as one of the main union leaders in Bangladesh ! every murder is unacceptable ! but, putting extra color to any fact is also unacceptable that she did by labeling Aminul as one of the main union leaders ! she just skipped that question when bangladeshi PM asked her – *
'which union he belonged ' ............... this is the nature of western media ! unfortunate !
Hasina adds more 'colour'. Even more unfortunate right?
Bangladeshi PM Seikh Hasina, prove again that she is a liar and corrupted lady..
I know this people very well Specially HASINA she is full of lie, one of the richest woman in the world, sending all money to her daughter in Toronto as well as sending money to her son in the USA, if she really love Bangladesh how come her both children live out side of country for good, why? .
Should a prime minister tell a lie?? Mr. Sohel Rana is a member of Jubo League (Youth wing of Awamileague). But the prime minister told he is not.... what a 'flawless lie'!
Amanpur was much politer then Bill o Reilly or Jon Stewart. She gave her every chance. Apparently Prime Minister came to the programme to become clean but with out any home work. Before this incident ,in another one fire killed another hundred. One gentle man Tanvir stole approximately $400 million from banks, finance minister said it is very little amount ( app. 1000 people killed in this Savar incident finance minister said not a big matter) ,finance minister again send a special request to give Tanvir more money. Tanvir is in jail now but any time he will be released. Every body knows about PADMA BRIDGE. This is the situation of our country. If BNP come to power same thing will happen. So please if you want to see some change in our ordinary people’s life then this top most level people need to exposed. I will expect Amanpur will interview more Bangladeshi top level people so we can get some real international attention. Because the make money through corruption in Bangladesh and send that money to their family who are living at western countries. Some time bribe meeting held at Bangladesh, some time at a third country but payment always out side at a third country. Almost all the ministers and top officials family or part of their family are living in western country or at least in Malaysia.
Hey sac, referring back to ur last statement, you mentioned that most of the top official's family lives in the western part or at least Malaysia. I'm just wondering if u've heard of this rumour about Shiekh Hasina saying that if she steps down, she could easily migrate to Malaysia (a Muslim friendly country) where getting a citizenship would be easy for her?
Just something I would like to verify.
Link me the source if there is any.. Thanks in advance.
Death is 400+, less act from govt, role of govt is not clear, and now Dhaka on fire by other political party and people are not safe.... Who will give the safety?
Ha ha ha
these people deserve this situation. they had a chance but they didn't take it.at one time they'll vote AL and after that they'll bring BNP. this cycle is going to continue forever so there's no point in blaming any political party. if they truly want to change the country then a new party is necessary
Cristina I'm request you guys pls go to bangladesh and what's happening in bangladesh pls show world wide what bangladesh govt doing pls do something for it
agreed. I hope now more journalists will go to Bangladesh and capture all the building code violations and corrupt and unethical labor work.
Bangladesh PM Is Shem less, Lair, Zelus, Corpted......We Bangladeshi are very shay to say This lair is Bangladeshi PM.
But har Father Not Like har... She dont have any Ability become a PM.
Have gone through all the comments, very sad to say that some of our Bangladeshi people is happy to hear the interview by CNN, they are saying Amanpur did a good job. My question is, Bangladesh is independent country. We know our country politician. May be they are bad but CNN reporter should have proper manner to talk with a country PM. Its like CNN is only the world voice. No. There are so many crisis situation in the world & CNN don't talk about that. They are talking about us, that's good but i think proper manner should be there while she talk. Because it is our country
Respect is earned and not everybody deserves respect and an office is no guarantee of respect in this world. It is your country – concentrate more on political reform and less about what foreignors are saying. Those poor workers probably consider Amanpour more of a friend than Hasina or you or me.
Dear Ezajur
i don't know when you have last visited BD but i am welcoming you to see the good changes in last 5 year. Those foreigners who are now questing about out industry, is it they don't know how much money they give us to make a garments. Why not they are giving more money to improve worker life style. it is not easy to change everything in one day but we will one day. by giving average $ 4 to 5 we are producing a garments for those foreigner where they are buying the garments by at least $ 15. So they should give push to their retailer to buy the product with fare price. If we didnt produce garments by low cost, those foreigner might not get a cloth to wear.
however, my point is Amanpour voice was not up to the mark as a journalist. she should learn how to talk with a PM.
please don't support the PM, supporting her is like supporting corruption.
Dear Moniruzzaman. Thank you for a courteous email – you are forcing me to be courteous ; ) There are many good things in the country – I visit every 3 months and am intimately connected and informed. Rest assured that Western businesses will always find a way to solve their own problems. We produce at low cost because we always undercut each other, because the BGMEA is useless and because government (AL and BNP) don't have the brains to defend the industry. Yes we want a better price – you are right. But Amanpour knows how to talk to a PM. You know it well – she is one of the world's most experienced journalists. The point is why did she talk to a Bangladeshi PM like that? I bet you she knows Bangladesh's problems and she decided to interview accordingly. If you interviewed Hasina/Khaleda – you would have been even tougher (I am giving you a lot of respect). I would have made Hasina or Khaleda red with embarassment. Rana forced people into that building becasue it would impress his AL patrons – Hasina is responsible for that. She got the respect accordingly. Our friends abroad are fed up. You can tell. Its time for us to be fed up too. Best wishes. Ezajur
Agreed all of your point Ezajur Bother but if this situation happen in USA how was the voice tone of Amanpour ??? I am just saying we are a country with lot of bad things & lot of potential but that dose not mean some one from other nation news agency will behave like this way just because we are poor country with lot of problem. Thanks
She is just a big lier nothing else....lier hasina
Look at this!!! We can't even agree on a comment thread and you expect millions in the country to agree and change!!! The question here is not why and who is the cause of it? It happened what is next? How do we stop ourselves from having another disaster? And for your info if you want your people to behave for starters you need education. For education the basic groundwork is dedicated teachers. Now, if you are teacher is corrupted, what will you teach your students apart from courruption? Educated mass has a responsibility, because education is the backbone of a society. On the contrary our education is simply a form of business and you can never expect, enlightened people who wil help our society.
We want to get rid of this Witch. Who uses our own army to kill our own people.
Recently around 2,500 Bangladeshi innocent people were killed by her army.
She wants to destroy our country. We need help from other countries.
We want her to be hanged.
Crime against humanity has been committed in Bangladesh on May 05, 2013. If we have any humanity left in our heart, we should file a case in the International court immediately.
Our prayers and thoughts will be with those family-members who lost their love-ones yesterday.
Great Job by CA.... The prime minister dont have any feelings for this country. She wants to see the end of the destruction of thos potential nation. She should not have feeling because her whole family was killed in thos soil. As a human being she is taking revenge from the innocent people. She wants to suck more blood.
Bangladesh prime minister make a clear statement at parliament Sahel Rama was not a awamelege leader.everybody knows he was awamelege leader.any corruption happen under this gov. She blame to opposition party or opposing leader this is her and ruling gov. Nature.
What an incoherent idiot! The woman can't get a sentence out and seems totally disconnected and detached, paying lip service to meaningless concepts in tired and empty buzzwords. If the consequences weren't tragic, her bizarre behavior and inability to to give a straight answer to a clearly-posed, highly relevant question would be comical. The Artful Dodger –Not.
I read all remarks of conflicting intellect persons above. Who makes the Govt.?( Personal) Self realization is important.
"WOW PM" by Amanpour,C ? I don't think it sounds good of her but usual tho .
Bangladesh problem is it has too many intellectuals conflicting with each others and mostly name caller kinda
Thank you all. God bless us all.
@FZ: People have the brain to understand your intention when you are saying 21 days to take visa. Do you mean journalists around the world apply 21 days before of any incident?! If yes, how they can give news immediately after any incident at any corner of the world? What if the PM does a fantastic job tomorrow and that the whole world needs to know immediately do you think that would take 21 days to come the journalists from West to cover?! Pls close your eyes and try to see what you are saying!
Hahahaha, what a comic this YouTube record is! I'm still laughing, thanks to admin who had posted at this site.

CNN makes a mistake. 1130 people were killed by the collapse of Rana Plaza. "Accidents happen" this type of remark is totally unexpected to a responsible person.
