It really is a shame. I'm in the business of modular blast resistant buildings that also have extreme wind ratings. The prices aren't that high for comparable commercial construction and run about 100-120k for a 12×40 shelter that is ready to bolt down to concrete. I won't mention my company because I don't feel it would be ethical to try and capitalize on a tragedy such as this. Solutions ALREADY exist and if schools, businesses or other organizations make protection in vulnerable areas a priority, this is an easily mitigated risk. -Greg Hight

You're right, the problem is not an absence of affordable solutions for the threat, the problem is the absence of political will.
If there were a multi-billion dollar PAC for 5-10 year olds, Oklahoma would have more shelters for children, and fewer weapons of war.

You would think a reinforced concrete walled and roofed section could be incoporated into the design and construction of the new school(s) that will be built for very little incremental expense ...

No sheelters to protect US kids in a tornado zone! Utterly astonishing considering how many trillions of dollars have been spent in recent years on wars that "Take the fight to the enemy overseas before they can attack us again here at home".

So Mother Nature is allowed to attack and kill US kids because there isn't enough money? Don't make us weep in disbelief.
