This is what I call as responsible and objective media broadcasting!I hope one day the media in Turkey shall also be freed from opression.Thank you Amanpour!
Everything Mevlut Cavusoglu said was nothing but lies.
This is what we feel when they rule our country. We try to speak and raise our voice but they are just speaking louder and spitting words because they are afraid that we will be heard. We, as the other half of turkish citizens, do not want these kind of people that do not respect to their own people and use religion just for manipulation
We cant speak,We can't tell how we feel, what we think, what we want. Because they feel that they can decide everything ""BECAUSE THEY KNOW THE BEST"" But people got sick of it. Taksim was the last point that people couldnt stand it anymore, Since they started govern us, they also started their restrictions, destroyings all over our lives. We dont want him anymore but they still think that it is only because of the park. It is not only park,It is our freedom of speech, freedom of live, our future, democracy, secularism everything... We want our rights to speak,live... In which democracy is possible to behave like this??? He believes that he is representing the majority, Doesnt he see the millions of people on the streets that they dont want this system anymore???? If there is democracy, why he is not representing all people even if they didnt vote for him??? Because in the democracy, a President should not represent only the peole who voted for them, He should represent All his peole that belong to his country,Isn't it?? He is calling people that are protesting him that we are stupd, we are illiterates. I am a Master student abroad, I studied my bachelor in Turkey and also in Netherlands. I am at the same time working. All my professors from Turkey are also relly qualified people, my parents are lawyers and qualified people. Who is pretesting and wants to have human rights in Turkey are mostly aware of eveerything!!!! That's why we want to have our rights!!!!!!! we cant accept everything that he is doing and we dont want a dictator anymore...
leaders must bear in mind that they are not god, they must know that people has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
yes, Cavusoaglu was saying beleaguering lies as it was quite evident from his rush and talking over your request to squeeze in every government talking points. thank you for your other follow up videos for trying to get to the bottom of this unfolding development.
Thank you for trying to show all over the world the real situation in Turkey. Turkish people are peaceful, local media doesn't explain anything clear. Only "Halk TV" and "Ulusal TV" show through out the country what is happining. My respect to Turkish people in their attempts to explain their opinion. In every part of Turkey people are together without any force told them what to do.
Yes yes!!! Some one finally was able to ask the right questions. In Turkey if any reporter dares to ask such questions, at best they will loose their jobs. Most likely they will end up in Silivri prison for several years even if they are not convicted . Just like a lot of the journalists are right now. As you were showing a peaceful Taksim students near the American embassy in Ankara were being brutally attached by police forces. The people are fed up with the Hitler like acts and comments of the prime minister. At least half of the country is afraid that the prime minister and his party are trying to push this country to become a more radically Islamic country. For example, the wish to build that old army barracks back in Taksim stems from the fact that Islamic soldiers who protected the sultan were housed there and they came out to kill the educated and more democratic soldiers who did not support the Sultan at the time. Although on the surface the country looks like it is doing better economically it is not so in general. The numbers look good but the distribution of wealth is very poor. The new laws concerning women, restrictions on many things which pertain to the life styles of an individual are showing signs of a country which is going to become another Iran or Saudi Arabia in the future. Better educated and secular half of the country don't want to live this way. Please make more interviews to expose some of these aspects of the ruling party and the prime minister. They will try to get away with sly answers but don't let them fool you. They are actually pretty dangerous. Also what Oksana Ozalp says is true about the media being under restrictions. Yes the only Chanel which reported anything was Halk TV. All others were too afraid to loose their advertising contracts and other advantages if they disobey.
I am a Turkish doctor in US, please get the facts right. All what he says are lies. A defiant prime minister increases the tension, his words speak for themselves, Erdogan says his supporters will give protesters 'the right lesson'. turkish medical association already cancelled all routine medical work everywhere because of the flood of injured to energency rooms. 3000 people wounded and prime minister leaves Turkey what else can be a more porvocation than this.
Thank you for this! Turkish mainstream media is completely ignoring these news (auto-censorship). PM Erdogan not only mocked the thousands of protesters he called them "plunderers"! He also threatened them by "pouring his own supporters to the streets by millions". Can you believe a PM is threatening his own citizens with civil war! He also made one last maneuver and added "they will build a mosque as well as the shopping mall" with an attempt to agitate religious people. According to Erdogan "Democracy is like a bus which you can get off when you reach destination". I'm afraid he just did!
Just now after they finished saying that they will investigate extreme force a 22 year old young man is killed in Antakya.....
Turks are not arabs and has nothing to do with them... nor never will ... Turks are Asians and they converted to muslim religion to gain political power in the region.... the race is mostly mixed with Greeks .... Ataturk himself was blond and was born in current Greece....
As you could see, Mevlut Cavusoglu and of course the government are really good at lying and twisting the truth. As Soli Ozel made it very clear that shopping mall was their concern at first place, and then they changed their decision after public unrest. They never listen, they never care what others think or believe – they only hide their 50% of voters who I believe majorly bribed by them. Democracy is not about majority rule but every segment of the society being represented and this authoritarian government are suppressing us – leaves no space to leave. They are involving in everything from abortion to alcohol, no freedom of speech, no free press, no human right and equal treatment at court! This protest is not about a park but all about the fight for democracy in this country and they are ignoring the reality! Last but not least, they are keep saying that they are fairly and democratically elected government – so was Hitler. Absolute power can easily turn into dictatorship and this government and PM may not bee seen as dictatorship in theory but they are in practice! Hear our voice and let the world understand what we are struggling for!
Christine-anyone who has been following events in Turkey is not surprised by what is happening. Too bad that your obsession with Israel as the root of all evil in the middle east has blinded you to what the real problems are.
Thanks a lot for giving the world a chance once again to see what sort of a ruling party we have over a decade in Turkey. Yes you were right that press members are imprisoned here with no legitimate reason given and unfortunately you received no answer but bogus information about what the ruling party achieved so far through the decade. Well you found it hard to cope up with for an "interview" 8 minutes long and just try to imagine us, the public trying to cope up with this through all these years. We've come to a point that we ask resignation because day by day this is becoming like an elected dictatorship. What Cavusoglu mentioned as a "fairly democratic election" is also another false information. In Turkey, during election process, there were 6 millions of difference in between the number of people eligible to vote and the number of votes. This is news! I mean, 6 million ghost votes were used which we dont know where they come from.
Please ask Ivan to make more interviews with the protesting public and you'll hear a lot more suprising facts.
Democracy needs to be inclusive and must be based on a solid consultative process. Neither is the case in Turkey.
Here people are fighting for their freedom. Our PM has totally eliminated freedom of the press and put dissident people from all walks of life in jail. (Journalists, students, politicians, soldiers e.t.c). He has never believed democracy. He views democracy as a “bus ride”. Some year ago he said that “Once I get to my stop, I am getting off.”
Once he elected, he had promised to all of us that he would try to understand about people's concerns (the people who didn't vote for him). He had promised that he would be the PM for all, that he would embrace us all. However he's never tried. He's always been looking for revenge for his past since then. We now have a PM who does whatever he wants. He is a very confident and very authoritarian politician, and he does not listen to anyone anymore and not embrace us. He has chosen to label us as enemy. He suppresses us. He is ruthless and ambitious. His ideas were the only good for him. Ours was rubbish. He couldn't understand that we're not the evil who once suppressed and victimized him and the other religious people.
To wrap up the real problem in Turkey is the lack of any form of democratic decision-making process and the utter lack of consensus and unrestrained arrogance of our PM. But he needs to understand that Turkey is not his private kingdom.
Now, using twitter is a crime in a democracy.
THANK YOU for showing the reality! a plain, warm, sincere thank you..
I applaud you and CNN International for covering this very important time period that is happening in Turkey's history. People started their protest for a park but now it turned into protecting their democracy and freedom that has been slowly slowly taken away by Erdogan's governments. Erdogan never had secular views, he was always very clear about this. He has no respect for Ataturk who is a symbol of our democracy and freedom. Erdogan wants turn this country into a non-secular Islamic state. Their supporters who believe in his ideology have roles everywhere in the country from schools to the various parts of other governmental departments. Under his government the number of women (young girls-teenage or even younger) who cover their heads have increased. I am Muslim and respect however people want dress up but some of these people are just making a statement and they do not cover their heads because of their beliefs. They even bring more religious subjects/objects into elementary schools curriculum. Last year I was helping out my niece with her math home work and the word “mosque” was used 4 times in the same 10 question home work. My niece goes to a well respected modern private school. This is no coincidence that the government is injecting religion in everything. People in Turkey who protests today either on streets or at home wants democracy not an Islamic state. secular government!
I’d like to add one very important subject. Erdogan keeps saying he was elected by the 50%. Here are the demographics I came up with: 1) People who truly belive in Erdogan’s non-secular views
2) People who liked the way economy is going and not necessarily could predict that his government would restrict the democracy
3) People whose votes were bought by a bag potatoes, sugar, or small gold coins (which is very common gift in Turkey)
We can further analyze the demographics of his “50 %” supporters but in a nut shell these three are the main ones.
I hope Obama can see that Erdogan’s government can never be a model for a moderate Islamic government. Ataturk’s Turkey can be the model for the Muslim dominated countries but Erdogan’s non-secular government can NEVER be the model!

TURKEY AND GEZİ PARK FACTS
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is not a diktatör. An elected Prime Minister in the democratic. Trip to the park, the military coup in Turkey before most of pointers and its political extensions. Bomb the American embassy which gave open support to this action groups. Many of the activists in the country for many years the exploitation of children elitist.
CHP activists suspected of belonging to an extension of his political thought and in Turkey coup and an elected prime minister and the two secretaries of the four were executed. CHP activists suspected of belonging to an extension of his political thought and in Turkey coup and an elected prime minister and the two secretaries of the four were executed.
8 hours of uninterrupted stay in the air without CNN What about advertising? The Turkish nation will never forget those days before history and impact and accountability from those who will ask her dish in the days to come.
Respect for justice and the choice of millions of silent waiting for their homes to friends and foes alike gave response provoked by being caught up in a democracy. Also if you have to also give the streets. The preference of the majority of the rights of the minority, yes, but also learn to respect everyone. I wonder if our friends in the Western deceived us for years? Democracy is not it? Democracy, everyone came to work as a management uses? Minority to dominate the majority? The government says it will not if the artillery barracks of the judiciary, a negative result. Is the result of the plebiscite in favor of the judgment whether the government will act in accordance with the opinion of the people, he says. How is that undemocratic? where has this dictatorship?
Aferin be sana. Terliksi hayvanlara kok sokturur senin bu zekan.
PKK ile anlasma yapan kim? Devletin butun mallarini yabanci sermaye peydahlayan kim? Kimin oglu askere gitti, kimin ki gitmedi? Kimin oglu kizi yurt disinda okudu, kimin okumadi?
AVM ye gelince AVM yok diyor adamlar siz hala olmayana ergi hesabı, olmayan AVM nin olmayan sahibini arıyorsunuz.
I am a university professor in Canada. I was visiting Turkey during the demonstrations. I must note that I am very disappointed with the foreign media news coverage of the events took place in Turkey – completely one-sided news coverage. I am wondering why the foreign news media did not cover what has happened in some of the mousques – kissing, drinking, stripping the cloths off ... Divan Hotel's garagge was like a pharmacy full of muscle relaxants, pain killers, toothpaste and toothbrushes, IV therapy supplies, american flag floor mats ... everything in the Taksim Square and Gezi Park was free – food, drinks and cigarettes ... Ocelan's pictures were everywhere ... people in doctor uniforms were not doctors but criminals ... Finally, a woman in a bikini (from Switzerland) – joins protesters in Taksim Square and says freedom has come to Turkey – Turkish women participated for the parliament elections for the first time on February 8, 1935; women in Switzerland were given the right to vote in national elections and to stand for parliament for the first time in the nation's history in 1971. List goes on and on but I'll stop here. What has happended in Turkey due to very weak opposition parties and the news media coverage either completely on the side of government or on the side of the opposition parties – news media in Turkey is partly controlled by Germany. In my opinion foreign news media acted like terrorists during their news coverage re: unrest in Turkey in fact they did everything they can to provoke the civil war with their unfair and one-sided news coverage – this was very sad-even tragic time period in news coverage by CNN, BBC, CBC and Reuters ...
I must say, a well rounded comment right there with the brilliant relevant facts.
Please see last paragraph of the blog
posted on September 13, 2013 which makes an excellent point re: recent riots and protests in Taksim Square.
So, the Americans over react and sensationalize all the time. It is so disappointing.
I do believe all the ideas you have offered in your post. They are very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very short for novices. May just you please prolong them a bit from next time? Thank you for the post:
