Pope Francis leading a Vatican ‘revolution,’ Politi tells Amanpour

Pope Francis is leading a “revolution” at the Vatican, Italian author Marco Politi told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday.
The new pontiff is focussing on reforming four “key” areas, Politi said: money, power, poverty, and community.
“He told the bishops and the cardinals,” Politi told Amanpour from Rome, “that they have not to behave like princes of the renaissance. He tells the priests not to forget when they buy a car about children who starve because they don’t enough to eat.”
Pope Francis spoke out on the issues of the Church in a frank interview with Italy’s la Repubblica newspaper.
"This Vatican-centric view neglects the world around us,” the pontiff said. “I do not share this view and I'll do everything I can to change it."
“He wants to reform not the center of the Catholic Church,” Politi told Amanpour, “but this reform has to go in all places where bishops, cardinals, and priests act.”
Since he assumed the papacy, Pope Francis has also been very outspoken on the big issues of the day, whether it be war in Syria or immigration in Europe.
The tragic drowning Thursday of nearly a hundred African immigrants on their way to Italy deeply moved Pope Francis.
“I cannot mention without great dismay the numerous victims of the latest tragic shipwreck,” the pontiff said, “which occurred today off the coast of Lampedusa. The word that comes to my mind is ‘disgrace.’ It is a disgrace.”
He visited the Lampedusa, the Italian island near where the immigrant drowned, in July. At the time, he condemned “global indifference” to the refugee crisis.
“Believers are really enthusiastic about this pope,” Politi told Amanpour. “Pope Benedict had a very low consensus and now the consensus of the people, and of the young people especially, is very high.”
“But the structure is a big structure, and it is always difficult to change the structure of an organization which has more than one billion people,” he said. “So already there has begun a war behind the scenes against this new pope, and there are many websites who speak very aggressively against him. They say that he is a demagogue, they say that he is a populist, that he speaks too much about poverty, that he doesn’t defend the role of the papacy.”

Always changes are inevitable and the changes in position goes with change in inviroment and in the people too.So having the new pope means broardly having many changes.
it's great to have a new Pope who speaks the mind of Truth, and yes.people will always criticize, but it makes no difference whether they oppose him or not. He has been chosen!

A return to liberation theology? The Gospels are in essence a revolutionary text which caused widespread revolt in the Roman Empire and caused the powers that be to throw Christians before the lions.Of course the U.S. being the modern Roman Empire wouldn't stand for it. As it did not stand for it in South America during the 1980's.

The Holy Father's simplicity and compassion resonate even with non Christians all over the world.
You have a wrong translation of what the pope said. He did not say that what happened in Lampedusa is a disgrace, he used the Italian word vegogna that means shame. In the context it is use in a similar way than when in English you say shame on you and in this case is referred to the scandal that means a tragedy like this.
Pope Francis' actions are in many ways are related to President Obama. You have a forward thinking Pontiff, yet harboring a group of cardinals and bishops; built on the good ole boys network. It would be hard pressed for certain groups to fall over all of sudden, after years of exclusion; that being gay is ok. If the Pontiff is genuine, he should be the next Saint. He's done more in a few months than others have in a lifetime!

While the Pope says Catholics should be kind towards all it is a long ways from approving or advocating any lifestyle that the church has always opposed. At least in public. It is hard to oppose a lifestyle that so many of their clergy embrace in secret.
It is time that the bishops and other administrators realize that they are saying one thing and doing another when they drive expensive cars and live in expensive apartments yet advocate for the poor and afflicted. Mother Teresa was the greatest catholic of the modern era as she truly advocated for the poor and defenseless masses in India.

With no substantial changes in the status of women his other reforms will mean little.
