Netanyahu makes #IranJeans trend on Twitter

Fashion and foreign affairs are crossing paths on Iranian social media.
“#Jeans” has been a top trend on Twitter in Iran over the past few days and it all has to do with a comment from Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview with BBC Persian late last week, Netanyahu criticized the lack of freedoms in the Iranian electoral process, which now-President Hassan Rouhani won in June.
But during the interview Netanyahu said, “I think if the Iranian people had their way they’d be wearing blue jeans, they’d have western music, they’d have free elections…”
Netanyahu was correct to say that Iran's elections are far from free by Western standards (Iran’s Guardian Council decides who the final candidates will be), but he was wrong about the jeans.
In the period after the Iranian revolution jeans were indeed frowned upon, but these days jeans are accepted and Iranians are responding to Netanyahu on Twitter with pictures of themselves wearing jeans.
A user who calls himself @Ali_Inverse who appears to be Tweeting from Iran posted a picture of himself doing the traditional Muslim prayers in his jeans.
Another user, called @sallar, even tweeted a picture of jeans and on top them a tablet which appears to be playing Western music.
And @rooznamehAnd tweeted out a photo with a little boy in jeans interacting with Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Ironically, Iranians are tweeting to respond to Israel’s prime minister, even though that Twitter is blocked in Iran. There is simple and free software that allows Iranians to get around that digital blockade, so they can use social networks and the other websites that the Iranian rulers block.
Even some of Iran’s top leaders – like the office of the newly elected president and his foreign minister – appear to be using that software to get around the blockade and tweet for themselves.

Also Rouhani never condemned the Holocaust. He never mentioned it and said "If" Jews were killed.
So after all these years, Mr. Natanyahu still doesn't have all the facts about Iran. Isn't this country supposed to be your No. 1 enemy? Isn't this country supposed to be the one which, in the past, wanted to wipe your state off the map?
You'd think that being the case the PM of Israel will know everything about Iran by now?
That's the thing about today's leaders. Big talkers but lazy in their approach. So they make a fool of themselves when it matters. This, to me, shows that the PM has not kept abreast with anything about today's Iran other than military issues, I guess.
Look, let's take interest in the socio-economic issues of our neighbours and then, maybe, that will reap some results. It is said that it's only the fool who does the same thing all the time and expect a different outcome. See what is happening in Syria's Assad with a different approach? Then see what will happen in Iran with a different approach. Then weight it against the results of the old ways today's Iraq, Libya etc. A word to the wise is enough.

Natanyahu is clueless about Iran and Iranians. I've traveled to Iran twice in the last 4 years, and both times I wore nothing but my jeans, for a total of 6 weeks worth of stay, both in Tehran and other cities. Not once did anyone give a second look. Why? Because I was among a sea of other people also wearing blue jeans.
Natanyahu either doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, or says things like this in hopes of gaining something, though I can't imagine what that wold be. If this lack of facts, or worse, purposeful lies, are any indication of everything else he tries to spread about Iran – and I think it is – people need to be aware of this man's intentions. He desperately wants the US to attack Iran. And he'll stop at nothing to make that happen.
Iranian Muslim women don't wear jeans. They always dress up in a Halloween costume which makes them look like a tent. Netanyahu is right.

I am Iranian . people are free to choose what they wear unless they show inappropriate nudity . Not only Iranian women wear jeans , but also they even wear leggings freely nowadays .

Netanyahu was not claiming that the government actually prohibited jeans – his point, clearly, was that with a more open society the Iranian people would adopt more of western cultures in dress, music and an overall philosophy of freedom. But, you can all choose to read him as the stupid enemy if you would rather but you should know that you are simply distorting the words to fit your preconceived notions.
Netandumdum should keep quiet. He is in no position to lecture anyone.
And he carries no weight around to be looked upon as an elder.
