By Christiane Amanpour, CNN
I remember Bosnia, especially Sarajevo during the war – people loved soccer. Whenever there was a lull in the shelling or the sniping, they would play.
But over the course of nearly four years of war, some of the city’s soccer fields became graveyards, and I stood there as formal cemeteries overflowed with the war dead. Stadiums were shelled and it was all but impossible even to leave for formal matches abroad.
Sarajevo once had the world’s sporting spotlight shining down on it – as host of the 1984 Winter Olympics. The ice skating rink that gave the world gold medallists, Torvill and Dean, was destroyed during the war and it seemed to symbolize all the hope that was seeping out of Sarajevo – and all of Bosnia Herzegovina.
So as Bosnia and Herzegovina qualifies for the first time for the World Cup, there’s certainly a bittersweet feeling to it, it brings a huge smile to my face because it’s wonderful to see Bosnia, to see the city of Sarajevo erupt in such well-deserved celebration.
This will unite people.
The war tore apart a multi-ethnic population: suddenly Bosnians, Serbs and Croats who had intermingled, inter-married, worked and played together, were at each other’s’ throats. The soccer teams were torn apart, and so were their fans. .
This new generation of Bosnians are mostly too young to have remembered the war. They were only kids when this happened, almost 20 years ago.
And so much has changed. Today it’s not only Bosnia and Herzegovina flexing its national pride through sport – look at Serbia, to me Tennis Champ Novak Djokovic represents democratic post-war Serbia. So much has changed.
For me, sport is something that shows how people can actually get along, unencumbered by ethnicity and race or religion based rivalries.
Since the war ended in 1996, Bosnians have been rebuilding, though they’re not out of the woods yet. They’re still very fragile, on both political and economic lines.
But this moment of sports triumph will be very important for Bosnians, and remind people what they can do together rather than split apart.
I am croatian but for me it was more important that bosnia-herzegovina qualified than my home country. The bosnians were attacked from serbs and croats in that war, they were left alone by the whole world. They deserve to go to brazil and perhaps this will help to unite the country that is still internally divided between religions and national affiliations.
Why Ms. Amanpour does not say how many millions of dollars is would cost "objective and unbiased" reporting from Bosnia during the war.
Yeah your forgetting that they attacked us first in Mostar and the surrounding regions after we both beat back the serbian menace, in order to make a pure muslim state, they tried to push us out of Hercegovina because we weren't muslim, heck they even used the Mujahideen on us. We fought back to defend ourselves, we weren't like the serbian aggressors we had a reason to fight or is that inconsequential to you apologist and appeaser.
f*** of u ustasha nazi sympathizer
We habitually say here, in Bosnia, that there is no country anywhere close in similarity to Bosnia. The day when our national soccer team won the placement to Mundial, was also the day of one of the most important muslim holidays – Eid, or in Bosnian – Bajram (pronounced Bayram). Bosnian muslims were hoping for the best holiday gift they could ask for this Eid – victory. The evening of the match slammed us from one end to the other into extreme feelings – most pious people, started praying for the win, "knowing from trusted sources" there was a plot from the Greek to undermine our victory; people were heavily crying (and some still do) in happiness, yet crying out their deepest sorrows and memories.
You proved what you are on the Syrian crisis. Further talking is unnecessary.
Thank you for always having Bosnia and Sarajevo in your thoughts. I was a 12 year old girl living in Sarajevo when the war started. All of the war years me and my family spend in suronded Sarajevo. Last nigts win means so much to this troubled country. It is a ray of light in our grey days. But we are Bosnians and Herzegovians and we are going in Brazil.
Thank you for speaking the truth about Bosnia and Herzegovina. You are simply one amazing women. Many of Bosnians will always remember you for your objectivity. I was only 7 years old when the war started. Since 1996 we all dreamed about goibg to WC . This is a dream came true.
For the frist time I guess bosnian muslims, catolics and ortodoxs were all BOSNIANS 😀
You are one truly amazing woman, not afraid to speak the truth and not swayed by the agendas and the politics! We are forever in your debt when it comes to bringing our Bosnian story to the world! You are an honorary Bosnian!
I know her personally as i work where she lived. The most amazing person you can find, Also her husband Jamie too, I miss them.Down to earth people and very proffesional
Thank you Christiane for having Bosnia in focus after so many years. War in Bosnia is now remembered only by people in Bosnia (all three ethnic groups), and even news that are coming from the country are mostly negative.
This was a good news for Bosnians after quiet some time, and I hope that you will get more of it as we prepare for championship in Brazil in 2014.
Best wishes from Sarajevo.
In the heart of Midtown NYC, at work, I listened to the game, stealing a glance here and there at a minimized window on one of my computer screens that had the game on. When Bosnia scored, I stopped feeling my knees. Can it really happen? To us? When the game ended, I ran to one of the conference rooms to jump and scream and be happy with myself. This was more than a soccer game. This victory was a sign that good things can happen to Bosnia and to its Bosnians, This victory was a reminder that even at the bottom of all worlds and economic scales, there is always something to cheer for. What a wonderful report from Christiane Amanpour and what an amazingly wonderful day to be a Bosnian.
I see these comments of thanks and appreciation but it's just one journalist writing a story. The header below me says "Impact Your World – Make a difference now", unfortunately this great triumph for the Bosnian National Team will make no difference in Bosnia. Regardless of how many hope it will, the Dayton Accords is the main culprit that stands in the way of progress and peace and right now stand in any victory claimed by the BiH NT. When the day comes that I can call myself a Bosnian and not a Bosniak or a Serb or a Croat, that will be the day that the country has moved on from it's horrible past. I am not a muslim, nor a catholic, nor orthodox. I am simply Bosnian. Nothing more and nothing less.
Christiane, thank you for Your existence...Thank you...
Nice to read Amanpour blog, and comments about this new matter !!! Congrats.
I was a 15 year old teen when the war started. I was shot and still have shrapnels in my body. But my family and I were lucky to survived the Sarajevo siege unlike many other unfortunate Sarajevans.
I think that no other reporter can deliver a story about Bosnia with a better context and the right emphasis and objectivity than Christiane Amanpour.
It is difficult to describe in words what this soccer world cup berth means to Bosnia. I can only say that after a long time I finally have hope. That maybe one day the young people of Bosnia will unite and say no to divisions and hatred on any level, and that they will overpower the forces of division. And show how when working together we can ensure peace and better future for all.
Our national football team, showed that.
Hello.I'm so happy for that !!.They deserve some happiness.I wish that makes some peace for people inside Bosnia ( Muslims ,Catholics and Orthodox). In addition I would to say happy Eid for Muslims brothers and sisters.
TANK YOU,CHRISTIANE,love you.
I think it is right you write articel about. New contents to read I am not against, new contents are able. We , resp. I personly love kind to see. Loyal I am to my champgreatness , healing to be constant.
For a long time nothing nice and rewarding happen in Bosnia. Your voice is remembered by many people when it was hard to reach a new day. And now will be remembered again .Thanks
I always admired you as brave journalist and great person even though I never met you.
I'm a South Sudanese who become Australian after fleeing my country due to war. I have developed interest in reading about the Bosinian war and my heart pumps so fast every time I read the horrific killing at the time. It makes me forget my own suffering as a tenager. I cannot comprehend what this people went through while the World watched with their mouth shut.
To Qualify for the World Cup is a sense of pride for the country regardless of which side of the conflic you're from. The young gerenartion will remember this victory for long and their future children's children will embrace it for long as possible. Sport is a language of peace. We have seen it in Iraq after they won the Asian Cup.
My hope is this victory will send sign of peace to those countries still embrace in internal fighting, specially tribal fighting as it's in South Sudan at the moment. The ambitions of a country is bigger and powerful if the people put their differences aside and celebrate such a historic moment together.
Am proud to have watched the game on my TV from Australia, something I can tell my children in the future. As humanity we can all do this and rise to the challenge of a new dawn.
Viva Bosnia, viva peace!!!
Thank you Christiane for being there for us then and now!
Back then, some of us were in Sarajevo listening to you
Right now, some of us all over the world watching you.
And in all those 20 years you were always very professional, with its own true mind, not corrupted or manipulated, very brave but at the same time you managed to stay just a simple, ordinary, emotional lady and the perfect journalist. Your voice was the sound of hope. And still is no matter what you say on CNN.
I wish you and your family the happiest and healthiest path in this life!
Also, thankful for this opportunity to write a few words to you.
Glad I did. 🙂
Welcome to the World Cup, Bosnia! Here in Brazil we can barely wait to have you here, playing soccer and having fun, together with many other great teams.
I was only a small kid when I first heard about your country on the news and at school. It was all about wars and conflicts at that time.
Now, I am glad to know that, some 20 years later, when I hear about Bosnia on the news again, people are talking about soccer, about different ethnic groups cheering for the same team, under the same flag. They are talking about the joy of being part of a World Cup.
Brazil and I will be cheering for you!
Thank you for all your hard work!
I do not trust you Christiane. You built your carrier spreading lies during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was religious war in between Christianity and Islam. You were not objective at all. Muslim population wanted to separate from Yugoslavia and today they have divided Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is not over yet. One day Serbian population will want to separate from Bosnia and we will have a big mess again. It is better for you just to be silent.
Please do not use the name of a great man to speak as a little one.
Your are the big one Dzenita!!!! HA!!! HA!!! How many Serbian people live today in Sarajevo 2-3%. Where are they now?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Before war in Bosnia Sarajevo had 43-45% of Serbian people. That I call ethnic cleansing!!!!!
Bosnia today is an Islamic country!!!! Check your facts and learn how to accept the truth!!!!!!
Nikola, it's true that Sarajevo is not as it was before, but you are taking about things which suits you.
Who made the longest siege of one capital city in the history of warfare. Who commited genocide in Srebrenica (killing 8000 people in just couple of days), who cleaned Prijedor, Bijeljina, Banja Luka, Foca from Bosniaks.
Who systematically destroyed the mosques (I will witness you that orthodox churches stayed intact in my town and all
the neighboring towns). Who intentionally destroyed Ferhadija and Aladza (some of the oldest mosques in Europe ).
Which national hero ordered burning of National Library in Sarajevo.
Where the whole thing started.... and you will find some counter argument and we can go on like this forever. I am sure we would end up at the same point.
Nothing about war is black or white, it's grey and true is in this grey part.
No matter what and how she reported during the war in the end it's up to us. This is a good news for Bosnia.
We have to pull ourselves together work hard, build up our community and our economy and give chance to our kids to travel and enjoy life and they will see that the least important thing is to which ethnic group or religion you belong. I have experienced the war and I want to move on. I fed up with this!
Sigurna sam da ces me razumjeti ako ti odgovorim na Srpsko-Hrvatskom jeziku.
In my city of Donji Vakuf, all the mosques were destroyed after the Serbs took over the city. When the Bosnian army reclaimed Donji Vakuf, they still kept the Orthodox church in tact and sill to this day it is still up. There was no plan of destroying the any churches in Bosnia. BUT! I am pretty sure some were destroyed..
Are you calling for a war again? You are sick.
What do you think?!!!!!!!!! By the way you are HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Da ti ja odgovorima na bosanskom jeziku.
Jedi govna i guši se u njiima.
HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tipicno za BOSANSKU kulturu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are an idiot, hater and ignorant!! Apparently things never change!
Back at you!!!!!
serbia should accept the defeat , and shoul try to solve the problems inside serbia. serbians from bosnia should stay near the other bosnians . you live in the past and that is why you never go forward
Dakle citaj i povezi.
Kada kazem narod, kazem narod u cijelini, većina, kontaš to i jeste referednum, volja većine.
Iznutra i izvana.
Uglavnom znaš ti sve to. Nekako ko da je isplanirano malo?
Uglavnom, rat sam proveo u Sarajevu. Gađali me, izlgadnjavali me, nisam imao vode, struje itd. Izgubio voljenih osoba. Prezivi covjek svasta. Necu uopste ulaziti u detalje ko je kakve zlocine radi itd, ma sve je to dokazano i ponovljeno 100 puta, i zakonski i pred Bogom (atesista sam, ovo vise u zargonu).
Jedno je istina. Da, to Sarajevo nije vise ono isto Sarajevo. Osim sto sam ovo sve prezivo, sad moram da zivim i okruzen priprostim ljudima, jer je mnostvo pametnih ljudi nazalost otislo, umrlo, raselilo se itd. A sve te priproste ljude ste mi vi srbi bas u sarajevo sjatili. Ajd ljudi i nisu imali izbora nekog.
Nema meni moje Bosne, boan. Nigdje.
I ja sam proveo rat u Sarajevu.
Bravo Dejane! Podpisujem svaku tvoju rijec!
@Svetlana Dobro ti ime!!!!!
Odatle i ona "vreme leci sve".
Mr. Nikola you are a combination of two evils – Cetnik and a "Commy" – facts are facts but people like you only hear what they want to hear.... I was a young boy who watched your ARKANS AND SESELJS KILL AND TORTURE and they liked it.... So when you say it's not over.... Well its NOT.... It will be over when people of good faith and reasoning become the majority (all religions with in Bosnia) and yes it will take a while but a great country is not built over night.... You live in the past and you have NO desire to join us – 21st century and all..... LOL.... At the end of the day, the SERBIAN Paramilitary forces and the Yugo – Army (1991) had the goal of Muslim and Croat genocide and the end of Bosnia, but u fell short because Bosnia is still there and they (like you) underestimated simple human will to LIVE AND SURVIVE... Good luck to you maybe one day you can be objective but i would not bet on it..... See u in BRAZIL... WAIT SERBIA DID NOT MAKE IT... LOL BITE ME...........
Calling people names is a sign of your insecurity. Like you said time will tell who is right. Bosnian census is almost over and you will know pretty soon how many people feel that they belong to your “country”. I really do not care about sports. Never did , never will.
@ Smiljana HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What an amazing human being you are! Your search for the truth, questions you asked that others did not dare, challenging Presidents, UN and war criminals, made you our hero. I was 14 when the war started in Bosnia and during 4 years of the siege of Sarajevo, I spoke with you twice- very briefly, on the street. But, I’ll always remember those moments, because you cared when others didn’t. You are always welcome to Sarajevo, as you have thousands of friends here!
Thanks for being happy for us but most of all for having integrity at the time when no one really wanted to look truth in the eyes. You and Roy Gutman stand out and for that you will always have special place in the hearts of all Bosnians.
Finally, this team consists of young men are of three different faith, and yes I am using faith not religion because they have proven that they have true faith in their hearts which equals respect, kindness and love. Most of all, they have shown those that use religion as means of separation what can be done when we all come together.
Bosnia was, is and will always be multi-religious pot, a beautiful one but at the end of the day we are all Bosnians and Herzegovinians.
was blessed enough to visit Sarajevo earlier and showered by the hospitality by its people, humbled by the experience of the city and its people been through and amazed by the resilience of them. It is a truly a great moment to have Bosnia to be on the world stage after so long. Well done and God bless BiH.
Cristian Amanphore is a very good propagandist can use words to such effect one feel all the stories got got just one side. She lacks any balance in reporting.
Can you really balance truth? I don't think so.
Thank you on this and bless you and your objectivity, great work and career.
You could not stop the war, but your reporting became a part of Bosnian history, you brought the new standards to the war reporting, world of today and on humanity. You are not only an amazing professional, but a great and strong female.
Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina loved you from your first step and report. you have been sometimes only hope in desperate days of ugly journalism and war propaganda.....Yes this is a new Bosnian generation to make a change to a better life, it will take a time, but evil is dying out in that small but proud, beautiful country.
I was born in Srebrenica. My mother is Serbian and my father is Bosniak. Just because of the religion that me my brother and father decided to follow (we never hated others nor I hate anyone EVEN today), I ended up losing both of them. Till this day I never found not even a single bone of theirs but at least the linage of my family of my father did not extinct. I can have kids and I hope they are safe here outside of Bosnia. I would never have enough courage to let my children live in Bosnia again because I saw what is in human nature and how expensive religious and human rights can be in Europe. Christiane, thank you for everything <3 If we had more people like you, a world would be a wonderful place.
Kosovo in FIFA urgently..
hahaha, how can something that is not even recognized by EU, UN and rest of the world bodies be in Fifa?
Niste joj platili
I am a Nigerian but I remeber coming back from School and watching the Christine on CNN and just hearing about the siege against sarajevo...I was about 10 then but it stood out for me....The children dying etc....I don't know whose fault it was or why it happend....But I am glad the Bosnians have something to celeberate. I pray that you are able to rebuild your country and give the next generation a future and a hope. Amen.
Novak is the greatest.
My father is a Croat and my mother is a Serb. Both sides of my family originate from Bosnia, though we live in the United States now. It absolutely irks me when articles like this talk about "Bosnians, Serbs and Croats" as if Bosnian Serbs and Croats are some foreign population or national minorities. The fact is, they're 2/3 of the population and deserve to be called Bosnians too. In the days of the Ottoman Empire, all people from Bosnia used to call themselves "Bosnians". Ivan Franjo Jukić was a famous writer and Catholic monk from Bosnia who went by the name of "Slavoljub Bošnjak" (Slavophile Bosnian). Bosnian Muslims don't own the term. Anyone who comes from Bosnia can be considered Bosnian, whether they're Bosniaks, Serbs, Croats, Jews, Roma, or whatever. With all due respect to Mrs. Amanpour, this article talks about unity but uses divisive labeling.
Ivan, well said. I am a Bosnian muslim and I have very close family friends who are Bosnian christians. We are all Bosnian. I have many Lebanese friends too. They are muslim and christian, and they all call themselves Lebanese. I also have Italian muslims as friend, yet they dont refer to themselves as Arabs or Martians – they are Italians from Roman times.
The issue of labelling originates from within Bosnia's borders. There are many brainwashed and unreasonable people in Bosnia. These people are born in Bosnia, their great great grandparents were all born in Bosnia and were Bosnian, they fought the Ottomans and the Austrians together, never did they leave Bosnia, nor have a foreign passport, yet today these brainwashed people call themselves Serbian or Croatian -only. They also speak the same language as you and I, they have the same culture and music as you and I but they are happy to be something they are not. They call themselves Bosnian when it suits them (in folklore such as music etc because being a"Bosanac" is very masculine) yet they still want to divide our country. They are the reason why Bosnia is not moving forward. I think that those who find it difficult to be Bosnian, should be free to leave the country because it would be a much nicer place.
I read some of the comments in Bosnian above and below yours. They are full of hate. I honestly think that they are written by children whose parents sit around the table drinking bosansku kahvu and tell their children the lies. That it was Bosnians who attacked Serbia, that it was the Bosnians that attacked Croatia and so on. We Bosnians have our small share in the attrocities, but so did some Jews in WWII, so did some Vietnamese in the 60s and 70s. But we certainly did not attack our neighbours like Serbia did. We did not create the label known as "ethnic cleansing" but Karadžić certainly did. We did not commit genocide, the Serbs did. And yet it is so sad that, unlike the German people, most Serbs believe that they were the victims of "moslem" terrorists, of NATO aggression and so on. These people need to seek help from the best psychiatrists – although I do not think there is a cure for people that cannot reason. Those that hate Bosnia and its people should just go away. Go to Mars on the next one way ticket as there is plenty of free real-estate there. Karadžić did say that Bosnia cannot be defended and that its muslim population would cease to exist if the referendum was successful. Well to all those criminal supporters, I say, go to Hell. We are here. We Bosnians are stronger now than back in the 90s when you killed our children and women with your tanks and planes Your ideaology of genocide failed. We Bosnians won and we are now stronger the ever before.
Bosnia has the oldest dictionary in the Balkans, the oldest proclamation of peace towards another neighbour in the Balkans which is held in Russia today, the longest settlement of peoples in the region. If you brainwashed and ignorant haters say that we Bosnians are really Serbs or Croats, then do you homework and check out the recent genetic studies available to you online on Google Scholar. They are peer reviewed academic studies. But you are too stupid to understand what I am writing and only you stupid ignorant haters will respond to my response in an attempt to negate the truth herein.
And Bosnia is still today. Long live Bosnia, its people, and those such as Amanpour. See you in Brazil 2014.
Ha!!! Ha!!! Get real!!! Christian Bosnians or Catholic Bosnians?!?! It is the same that I say that YOU ARE Serbian or Croatian Muslim. Accept the fact that you have your small country (federation ). Republic Srpska is the land of BOSNIAN SERBS. Get it!!!
Man you Bosnians need to learn your history you guys were never a race you are either croatian or serbian muslim, the Turkish historian Aali (1542-1599) in his work Knhulahbar even states that the tribe of the Croats, which is assigned to the river Bosna, their character is reflected in their cheerful mood; throughout Bosnia they are also known according to that river which means that Bosniaks= Croats, heck even your greatest writers and intellectuals such as Hamdija Kresevljakovic ,prior to the first yugosalvia and second yugoslavia were the idea of croatin roots was repressed, states that the bosnians came from croatian roots and were muslim croats and has even historical biographies and records stating such. Like it or not you are not a separate race from your neighbors unless you are a turk bosnian.
Yes you are 100% invalid between your ears.
@Dzeks Feeling unsecure!!! You should be! It is not over!!!
While you here bitten by Alia’s Muslims hoodlum’s “Miss Amanpour” was hanging with the worst human waste – Muslims criminals, murders and rapist aka “Bosnian Army” or “brave fighters for Bosnia”…. That is what kind of “democracy” she was defending!!
@Dejan and Svjetlana – What a cheap story about Bosnian’s fight against Serbian aggression
I consider myself lucky because I survived. I witnessed 50-100 Serbians killed. I guess it was not my time to go because it was some kind of exchange so I was saved.
Thank You for the support!!!
Cheap story... You and your friend Nikola are CRAZY.... But then again you all only know how to spread lies and KILL civilians same as your HERO – Ratko and Radovan- brave men they are indeed – You are very much like Vucic FROM Serbia WHO SAID IN 1991 – 1 SERBIAN LIFE = 1,000 BOSNIAKS DEAD – You achieved that but we will see when it is all said and done who will have the last laugh..... Good Luck
There is no need for further explanation. Today the whole world knows about your Islamic, terrorist ways!!!
I dont defend or applaud the serbs action in Bosnia but lets not forget that the Bosnians wanted to enact sharia law and even brought in Mujahideen troops to carry it out. http://inavukic.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/muslim-army-of-bosnia-and-herzegovina-displays-its-mujahedin-strength-zenica-1994.jpeg
It is a kind of shame that more Serbs do not take participation in this kind of subjects, especially when Serbian people were the victim of the worst genocide in 20th century in Balkans. Newer aggressors-always defenders! I always felt truly Yugoslavian until late 1991 where I was accused to be some kind of Serbs nationalist… In this war we all lost. I can’t say that people in any of this “independent” Balkans country are happy with it. Yugoslavia was best solutions for all people who live there. It is too late to look back.
I agree. I considered myself Yugoslavian too. It was a great and innocent time. It does not exist anymore. I do not have hate for anybody, even when I am in terrible pain. I have now citizenship from another country and I don't want to look back.
You're absolutely correct to say that Serbs are the victims of genocide. I think that many Serbs feel betrayed by those like Mladic, Karadzic and Milosevic for committing genocide in the their name. Imagine the Serb state participating in mass killings in Bosnia today, or using buses to take Albanians from Kosovo back to Serbia to be executed, or to bus Bosnians from Sandzak in Serbia to Bosnia and execute them in Visegrad. During the Bosnian war, the Serbs were very proud of themselves to commit genocide, to rape and pillage, yet now they are all somewhat ashamed of their past and do not wish to associate their names with their ideas. Why not? Serbs should be proud of their past and of their murderous campaign of ethnic cleansing, of rape, concentration camps and killing of children. Be proud of your Serb heritage in the name of genocide. You hate Bosnians because you hate your Ottoman forefathers because you associate Bosnians with Turks. I pity you.
If you do research on your family you will discover that you are Serbian or Croatian. Live with it!!!!
You are so confused....
Bosnia for Bosnians!! Whatever religion you are!!
Me, to so far USA is the only country that I have, love and respect.
Me too..It was nice to talk to you!!!
It is a miracle!!!!! Muslims are converting to Christianity! We have Dejan, SVETLANA (It is not Svjetlana)) and Niki on the blog!!!
We know who you are and the role you had in the Bosnian war , your a muslim who pushes muslim politics on the uninformed You want to create more muslim countries in Europe fake counties that are U.S. sponsored NATO backed to attack Russia or so goes the master plan the muslims sold to the U.S. when in fact the world knows who the real enemy is If Bosnia wants to ever join the EU Republika Srpska will be its own country. Nice try maybe if you keep writing fake stories and fake facts something will happen . At least cnn will keep paying you .
Viva Bosnia, Viva USA, Viva Amanpour!
Dream on sucker!!!
@ Dzeks I am an American, born and raised. My wife who is Croatian just interpreted the discussion board for me. Shame on you Dzakes!!! To attack a person who was bitten and disabled by Muslims. Unbelievable!!! Name one good thing that Islam brought to the humanity! There is none. I don’t like Islam and Muslims because they brought so much pain, suffering and terrorism to my country. I am so sorry that we helped you during the Bosnian war. Next time we won’t!!!
So called "Bosnian" football team is actually a Muslim team, representing 23% of BiH. And, there is no such thing as Bosnian in terms of nationality, there are Muslims, Croats and Serbs ( and others) living in BiH.
At least I expect journalists form CNN to know proper terminology.
You're wrong. Bosniaks hold 33% of territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina and will hold more in the coming years.
here is a map http://bosniangenocide.wordpress.com/2012/04/22/mi-nismo-ni-muslimani-ni-bosanci-ni-hercegovci-nego-bosnjaci/etnicka-karta-bosne-i-hercegovine-po-popisu-stanovnistva-iz-1991-godine-izvor-ove-etnicke-karte-bih-je-ured-visokog-predstavnika-za-bih-ohr/
memo, do you even know who plays for Bosnia team ? And if this team represents only 23% of Bosnia, than we must be a hell of country having such a players!!. What would happened if it was like 50 % or 75% OMG, World cup would be ours baby, no question asked !!! If you feel that way I am sorry baby, but this is the best from BOSNIA and it is a BOSNIAN team, representing Bosnia, to the WORLD , first time baby. Now how do you like that !!!!
Christiane Amanpour thank you for being an incredible journalist and for speaking the truth about Bosnian Genocide.
My Bosnia – always in my heart. <3 I have a Bosnian flag attached to the window of my car driving through another city then my lovely city of Tuzla, living in another country that is my home now..... So far from my country, but in my heart always close. I will cheer with my Canadian born children whose hearts will raise as mine with any chance we had to win this Sunday in Brasil, and let people know that this is still my home. Thank you Ms. Amanpour for supporting Bosnia all these years.
Its about the pple of Bosnia, not the tribes or religion.Living as human is the best thn living as the tribe.
Dear Lady Amanpour,
if you know the first thing about Bosnia is that Bosnia has always been multi ethnic and multi cultural place ... you insisting on showing exclusively muslim graves and muslim symbolism when talking about Bosnia insults every true Bosnian person and patriot . And not only that – it makes confusion and add to post war religious and political games that do not help Bosnia to heal over. On the contrary.
Please instead of digging old wounds ( selectively !) to satisfy western curiosity about "exotic far away place" – please visit Bosnia again – come and ask questions that matter for us, the people here – instead of telling stories in a way that only foreign and domestic politicians and post war profiters benefit from.
When we look around now we see huge changes in Bosnia and not for better! We see young people been drown and pushed towards religion like never before!!! We see religious (mostly muslim) school opening everywhere, we see young people being pushed to learn Turkish much more than any European language (and yet our politicians claim we are on the round to EU) , we see growing number of shopping malls and hotels and restaurants in which alcohol or pork are not served for religious reasons in the middle of the capita that should be the capital of all Bosnian people no matter what religion they belong to. We see projects financed on the religious and ethnic bases ... We see Bosnian Serbs not supporting their national team because they do not feel to be part of Bosnia. We see Croatian national flags replacing Bosnian flags in the middle of Bosnian villages because they do not accept they are Bosnian Croats but feel more like Croatian citizens.
Those are the issues you (and International Community ) should be interested in.
Our team did well! And we are very proud! But please do not abuse our nice moments ... in complex and deeply wounded places best intentions are not enough. We are still raw – be responsible!
Also apart from using the name of the country incorrectly in your reports (let's say you abbreviated when speaking unofficially so it could pass as ok – although is it really ever unofficial when you are high profiled journalist ? ) but you have also listed on the right had side of your blog "Bosnia" as the official name for the country – there is no such a thing! The name is – Bosnia And Herzegovina ... "Bosnia" as a country does not exists – try to be accurate – CNN and Amanpour in particular should know better!
I have been reading about Bosnia and the trajic wars and inter racial and ethnic strife. I was so moved to see the great Bosnian soccer team. They were magnificent.

I've been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be much more useful than ever before.
Have you ever heard of second life (sl for short). It is essentially a online game where you can do anything you want. sl is literally my second life (pun intended lol). If you would like to see more you can see these sl websites and blogs
