Battling AIDS in South Africa, and future of the Rainbow Nation

As a continent, Africa is affected by AIDS more than any other region in the world.
In South Africa, more than six million people - or 10% of the entire population - are infected with HIV. The United States is a big financial backer of AIDS-treatment programs there, and South Africa has the largest anti-retroviral program in the world.
Nonetheless, more people are now living with HIV in South Africa than 10 years ago.
CNN's Christiane Amanpour spoke on Monday with U.S. Ambassador to South Africa Patrick Gaspard about HIV/AIDS and the future of the Rainbow Nation; click above to watch their interview.

Not just AIDS, South Africa seems to be failing to live up to its promise even on the economy. Many hopeful stories are coming out of sub Saharan Africa, pity South Africa is standing almost still.
What do you mean standing still. SA is still the richest country in africa, nigeria who is secondand and may over take has a populastion 3 times of SA so will need a econmy 3 times strong to match it, so SA is pret secure in it's economic supremacy. Not to menstion it is richer now than it ever was before, SA was almost bankrupt in the early 1990s, somthing the ANC did not know when thery made there promises. For the most part SA is better now than in 1994. crime rate is lowere, ecconmy is strong but in a recsion with limted growth.
We may be one of the stronger countries in Africa but, remember not only have South Africa fallen behind the last 20 years but, also the rest of Africa... Africa should never be our aim it should be higher than Africa otherwise we will always be on African standards...
1. President Mandela Minister of health did not recognize the gravity of the problem of Aids
2. Prsident Mbeki advocated Beetroot to treat Aids
3. President Zuma who was accused of raping an Aids patient said I took a bath afterwards.
800 people and more are dying a day of AIDS in RSA. Drs write pneumonia etc.
4. What was not mentioned is that wards that used to treat young children are overwhelmed by young children with AIDS
5. It is not only the anti retroviral drugs that are used, expensive antibiotics,anti fungal drugs, dermatology and vitamins
Therefore some patients are taking 24 tablets a day.
6. What is NEVER mentioned is the high cost of testing the white cell count. In rural areas the test are not done and the tablets are no longer effective.
7. Sophisticated drugs are given to people who do not understand the importance of taking the drugs regularly
8. I see a husband,wife,2 children, 3 lady friends all taking the drugs which overwhelm the dispensaries.
9. As the HIV kick in I see people no longer able to work. As up to 10 people depend on one bread winner this is catastrophic for the family.
10. Finally with the demise of the mining industry, the low growth of 0.9%, less taxes will be collected as the unemployment due to lack of education is huge.
South Africa was thrown to the wolves in 1994. It now delivers twice the public service... with more than 6 times the volume of money (tax). Politicians and Bureaucrats are bleeding the country to death.

Lets for a moment forget the bickering in the comments above, yes the ANC is corrupt to the core, and yes the Auditor General report has showed that billions in dollars are unaccounted for in the hands of our government. But, despite the fact that CNN has been very quiet about this mismanagement and corruption, the one issue that I can not understand the lack of outcry from the international audience, is the rape of infants. Just last week we once again had to read the headlines in local news that a 6 week old baby has been raped. And it is not the first time, and it wont be the last time. So as much as I love my country, why does CNN not get involved in this stories and expose this ridiculous cultural believe! I watch CNN on a daily basis, and think CNN can make a big difference to South Africa, but only if they stop running this feel good stories, and start reporting on the harsh realities of our beloved Rainbow Nation.
The heart of your writing whilst appearing reasonable originally, did not work perfectly with me after some time. Somewhere within the paragraphs you actually were able to make me a believer unfortunately only for a while. I still have a problem with your leaps in logic and you might do nicely to fill in those breaks. In the event you can accomplish that, I will undoubtedly end up being impressed.
