Imagine a world where nine-year-old girls can't go to school but they can become wives.
As Iraq holds elections, the council of leaders have approved a draft law that would cut the age at which a woman can marry in half – to nine.

Child abuse just got messier; and we think our world is getting wiser and better?
Marriage at 9 years of age? That's called "rape".
I don't suppose any of the council of leaders are women?
it is a very bad thing, any one cut in the act should be killed
If Iraq passes such a law, then I would say just let them rot. Let them just cook in their own evil. No sane modern civilization would allow young girls to be treated like that. Iraq deserves whatever happens to them. I am sorry.
We made the huge mistake in Iraq of not training women only to be the security forces. Could have empowered thousands of women who would have been able to stand up and tell the government there was no way they would allow their daughters to be sold into slavery...
I think this is simply stupid. Marriage is not for children, what would happen if they were allowed to drive cars or take decisions about serious matters by themselves?
How can societies be so backward and inhumane? It's insane to allow ignorant and insecure men to determine how people will live their lives and to deny them education and choices. It's the worst form of abuse of power.

We live in the country described in the link above: Where child rape is defended in court, in American courts.
