"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."
So begins George's Orwell's novel, “1984,” the iconic tale of totalitarianism and government mind control.
In Russia, President Vladimir Putin is now honoring journalists for their coverage of his country’s annexation of Crimea, bloggers with more than 3,000 visitors per day will now have to register with the government, and swear words will be banned in films, TV, theater and other media.
Clocks are striking 13 all over the country. Christiane Amanpour has the story; click above to watch.
You are ignoring the history of Europe in literature, and also otherwise, and starting a new 30 years war. Pushkin, Goethe, Leibniz, Christine of Sweden do not say anything to you. The 30 years war was resolved by the maxim UNUS MAXIMUS INVOLVIT TRINITATEM, maximal unity involves trinity, it is a latin version of the Chinese yin-yang concept. Nowadays there is yang in America and yin in Russia with no contact. This problem was already detected by Goethe in Faust.

Well, Orwells vision is already daily reality in western nations as well:
When waging an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign nation and the public is supposed to support it.
When fighting a war for oil or geostrategic reasons and the public is supposed to believe that "war will bring peace".
When the public is supposed to support violent demonstrations in western Ukraine – but is told to consider demonstrations in eastern Ukraine as "terrorism"
When we are told it is bad when yanukovych uses the military against his people on the Maidan – but when we are told it is OK to use the military against separatists in the East.
When we are told that we should support democracy – but we should also support the overthrow of democratically elected governments at the same time.
When we are told that all power in a nation resides with "we the people" – but that we are told at the same time that we should ignore a referendum by "we the people" in Crimea as illegal and irrelevant.
When we are told that universal values such as "equality" or "innocent until proven innocent" is not actually universal and that it's OK to murder people without a trial – because the victims were not "equal" enough to deserve those rights.
When we are told it is OK to send the troops to protect people in nations that ask us to – but when we are told it is illegal when other nations send troops to protect the people of nations that ask them to.
When we are told it is OK to invade the airspace of sovereign nations to kill people with drones – but that it is "aggression" when other nations fly into our airspace.
When we are told that we must fight terrorism – but that we should also support terrorist groups when they fight against dictators we don't like.
The list of western hypocrisy could go on for pages. But the fact remains: Orwell is here already.

You decidedly put a new twist on a subject that's been written about for years. Noteworthy material, just extraordinary! I enjoy reading a post that will make people think, thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner likewise. If you have a chance check out my website. It's a work in progress, but I suppose that someday it will have nearly as good of content as yours. kelly kosky
