An extraordinary story of Holocaust defiance

May 22nd, 2014
06:39 AM ET

In the late 1930's, Adolf Hitler's storm troopers marched into Czechoslovakia and the Jewish population found itself on the Nazi hit-list.

That is, until a young British stockbroker named Nicholas Winton went to Prague and saw for himself the plight of the children.

For nearly 50 years, Winton hardly spoke of what he'd done – saving 669 children, most of them Jewish, from certain death.

He has since reunited with some of those children, now all grown up, and many with children of their own.

Winton has just turned 105.

A great man. Not a great article. I clicked on it expecting to hear exactly what went on in greater detail. A bit disappointing.

If it takes yet another generation....justice must be served and anyone involved with the inhumane treatment of his fellow man must be punished. Personally, if this animal were dying of some horific illness, I would still want to see him tried and go straight to "Hell"

USA is seeing similar child labor marches from central American countries. Tens of thousands of children, many starving, dying, mistreated, killed enroute.

Humanity is to tackle root issue in home countries not destruction of working classes majority in America which seems to be the trade off of USA help.

Root issues must be addressed in country's of origin. Like the German economic genocide, same occuring now in America.

The oil cartels cronies as political leaders was root cause of this forced migration.

Now main issue to address is home countries leadership and forcing them to correct legally by statehood to USA for protection offered by USA to its citizens.

The illegal abusive tactics have short and long term negative aspects for USA and migrant children home countries.

Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Firefox. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I thought I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the problem solved soon. Many thanks
