U.N. political chief pushes for elusive Gaza, Israel cease-fire

By Mick Krever, CNN

The United Nations is doing its best to try to achieve a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, Jeffrey Feltman, the top U.N. political official, told CNN’s Hala Gorani, in for Christiane Amanpour, on Monday.

“The U.N. is playing a role. I wish, like all of us, that the impact were on the fighting were clear now. But it's the responsibility of the leaders as much as nobody else.”

Feltman’s boss, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on Monday put blame for the failure to reach a cease-fire squarely on the shoulders of Israeli and Palestinian political leadership, saying that they must “show their humanity.”

“There are a hundred-and-seventy-three-thousand-plus Palestinians, ten percent of the Gaza Strip population, that are now being sheltered in U.N. facilities,” Feltman said.

“The U.N. is still working to – talking with all parties – to try to get to that immediate unconditional cease-fire that the Secretary-General has demanded.”

Indeed, he said, the United Nations in uniquely placed to try to broker a solution. Israel and the United States do not officially speak with Hamas, which they consider a terrorist organization. The U.N. does not officially acknowledge speaking with Hamas, but it tacitly implies it does.

“We couldn't do our job if we didn't have channels to get messages – talk to, hear from – all parties.”

“We are able to reach all parties in this conflict, which I think puts us in a … unique role.”

Since long before, these anti Zionists have already deemed U.N., U.S., and Israel as collusive forces in the mid-east.

Mere cease-fire and status-quo, therefore, wont work. It will be viewed by them as a simple design against Palestinians – i.e inch and grab territories [an old accusation]

If we are getting it right, not only U.S. and U.N. have credibility problem in there with the Anti-zionists but to include Israel now. Its a degree darker in there for peace.

Mr. Ki-moon! You are not worthy to be in your job, your management failed and you betray in your job the Palestinians used ambulances for the UN to run away and shoot at Israeli soldiers, and under the clinic of the UN gave to Hamas dig a tunnel and hide weapons, because of you the soldier kidnapped by Hamas, because of you and American and you're press, Israel cease fire, and this when you knowing that Hamas violated the cease-fire five times,
And while Israel cease- the fire , the soldier kidnap , you are not worthy to be in your job, you can not do anything nowhere in Syria and Palestine, go home! Quit pension, you disappointed the whole world.
